Re: 2009 Wisconsin Regional
I was surprised to not see a thread on this yet (other than the WI MN combination post). To add to your list, team 2826 is Wave Robotics from Oshkosh WI.
This regional is a little bit smaller this year, but I am still extremely excited! 1625 and 1675 put on a great show winning Midwest and I can't wait to see what other teams emerge in this regional! |
Re: 2009 Wisconsin Regional
This is also the first time team 1535 will be going to the Wisconsin regional, and we are very excited as we will be the only team representing Canada there ! Hope to see everybody there, and GOOD LUCK!

Re: 2009 Wisconsin Regional

Re: 2009 Wisconsin Regional
I'll do my best for predictions.
Lets see, 93, 269, and 537 have been repping the Wisconsin teams very well for longer then I've been here. This year should be no different In the past few years, we've seen the emergence of a few new contenders. 2062 CORE Robotics has had an impressive showing in 2008 and there's no doubt in my mind they will be good this year. 2194, the Fondy Fire is also a contender. They have been impressive ever since they were rookies. Now you can't forget to mention the good ol home teams of 1732 and 1714. 1714 was regional chairman winners last year and they are sure to impress. 1732 has a competitive bot and looks to make a run into the elims like they did at MWR. 2/3 of the MWR finalists team are here. 2338 and 2039. 2338 is one tough robot and can hold their own with anyone 2/3 of the champs from MWR are here too, 1625 and 1675. Everyone's heard the hype about 1625 and they probably have the biggest bullseye on their back coming in. 2022 is coming off a great MWR too. They made it to the semi's off their solid defense and fantastic human player. No robot is safe with 20 seconds left in the game and their hp has a supercell. 1024 looks to rebound from MWR. If they are the kilobytes of the past, we know they will improve tenfold and show their form from 2008. I'm glad to see 1816 is back too. They were part of the 2006(I think) winning alliance in Wisco, look out. 1736 Robot Casserole consistently have cool bots. Glad to see theyre making the trip too. They are definately near the top my scouting list from previous years expieriences And everyone remember to give the 2437 Lancer Robotics a warm welcome. They are making the trip from Hawaii. They'll need all the warmth they can get getting used to the brutal Wisco winters. I'm sure I could go on and on but here are my real predictions. After qualification matches, the seeding will look like this 1.1625 2.93 3.2062 4.1024 5.2338 6.269 7.1732 8.1259 WI should be interesting. Good luck all teams. //edit Bigboom beat me to some of it =] I'm going to guess the finals will be won by the 3rd seed. |
Re: 2009 Wisconsin Regional
I think that Winnovation will do well at this regional as well, unless something breaks.

Thanks for the comment. |
Re: 2009 Wisconsin Regional
While Joe did a very good job providing teams to look out for, I think there are two teams that also should be mentioned: 141 and 171.
141 was a quarterfinalist at Traverse city, and was a semifinalist at Wisconsin last year. I have no idea what goes on in thier gray box, but it should be effective. 171 is the defending champ and looks to have a robot capible of doing it again. I think Wisconsin should be very exciting. After 1625 there will be a drop off, but then there will be plenty of teams right at the next level. Should make scouting and alliance selection even more crucial, I think. |

2 cims on 4wd drive single speed... 2 cims on a conveyor.....and 6 pneumatic cylinders. (we've only toasted cims once, and that was under very interesting circumstances that cant happen with this drivetrain) we had one issue at midwest with a bent pnuematic cylinder, and that was because of how we started with the 7 balls on the pistons in auton, and yeah we dont do it that way anymore. 2 vics 2 jags and a spike simplest bot we've ever made, nothing complicated, nothing extravagant i'm also gonna chuck a watch out for 2039 and 2338 up here, they're good (totally just jinxed us lol) |

Just less then 48 HOURS before the start of the WISCONSIN REGIONAL!!!
Does anyone know: 1. If there will be a webcast?? 2. Where the information will be posted for parents and sponsors to watch?? |
Re: 2009 Wisconsin Regional
141 will be back again for the second year. Its going to be cool that we will be the only Michigan team this year. Only a few more days until it begins. See you all there.

Re: 2009 Wisconsin Regional
The "unless something breaks" comment is more a comment directed at everyone. All robot's are subject to breaking.

Re: 2009 Wisconsin Regional
Team 2338 "Gear It Forward" is really excited to be going to this regional this year.

Re: 2009 Wisconsin Regional
I can't wait for the Wisconsin regional. Here's my take on it.
Here's one stat that may surprise you: no team in the state has won more regionals than 537 (4). They competed already in week 1 at the Kansas City regional and failed to make the elimination rounds after finishing 3-4 in the qualifiers. You know they'll be looking to turn things around this weekend. Here's one more stat that may impress you: 1024 tied that number last year alone. After winning 3 regionals, appearing on Einstein in Atlanta, and making a finals appearance at IRI, 1024 certainly has some positive momentum rolling. They had a very disappointing showing at Midwest this year, but are expected to have the bugs worked out this weekend. This is their first time attending the Wisconsin Regional. 93 is a perennial powerhouse in the state. They had a huge year last year, taking silver in Milwaukee and gold at Minnesota two weeks later. They also made a strong push in Atlanta and IRI. They built a shooter this year and shouldn't disappoint. Look for them on Saturday. 1732 and 1652 teamed up at Midwest and with the help of partner 2041, accomplished one of the largest upsets in recent history in beating the #1 alliance of 71, 1114, and 1000 in the quarterfinals. Look for them to both improve this weekend. Speaking of Midwest performances, we can't forget the winners of the regional, two of which will be playing this weekend. Team 1625 and 1675 teamed up for the second time in the two years to win the Midwest regional this year. 1625 is obviously a talented robot and enters Wisconsin with a gigantic target on their back (968 anyone?). 1675 played formidable defense and was largely responsible for their partner's success. Both should be playing on Saturday, quite possibly together. Robot Casserole, 1736, will be venturing north as well. History will tell you to never underestimate the casserole. They usually bring their A-game. 269 also competed in week one. They have a simple design and have shown rather consistent driving. They were selected by the 8th seed alliance and ended up losing to the eventual KC champions in the quarterfinals after four hard fought matches which penalties eventually decided. They're looking to redeem themselves this weekend. 2062 put themselves on the map last year after a great performance at St. Louis which was topped by an even greater at Wisconsin. They'll be looking to defend their title of reigning champions. They have an interesting shooter design which will either make or break their chances of repeating. Fondy Fire, 2194, have been making a name for themselves ever since winning Wisconsin in their rookie year of 2007 in what was possibly the best set of finals matches Milwaukee has ever seen. Their "John Deere" green machine is definitely something to watch for. Speaking of cheesy segways, 1816 is back for the 4th straight year and they'll be shooting as well. Since winning the regional in 2006, their rookie year, they've had some disappointing showings. 2007 looked like their year until they had a breakdown in the finals which opened the door for the eventual winners. They'll be one to watch for as always. My sleeper team is 706. They've been around 2001 and to this point, have never been in the finals. After seeing what they built this year, it's hard not to write them off as quickly. They showed up to the preship with a gorgeous robot with a very impressive looking shooter. It will be disappointing if they can't get things going this time around. 141 will be back. This time they've brought a fridge. They dumped their way into the eliminations at Traverse City but lost after three QF matches to the #2 seed. They had a strong showing last year and it's good to have them back. The Oshkosh rookies, 2826, as well as 2nd year competitor, 2506 looked fantastic at the Sussex preship event and will be some of the better dumpers. Oshkosh spent the build season under the wings of 93 and 2194, so they surely won't disappoint. 2039 and 2338 will be making the trip up from Illinois after teaming up at Midwest. That means 4/6 teams in the finals at Midwest will be at Wisconsin. Had you told me that earlier, I would have called you crazy. Oh, and 171 will be back as well... |
Re: 2009 Wisconsin Regional
This years game is unpredictable, and teams are trying new things. Expect some of the so called power houses of Wisconsin to struggle this year. That is all i have to say.
