1771 just plain looks beastly, if they preform half as well as they look, they will be formidable.

Please remember that everything you say is open to be read by anyone, and have some GP in your posts. Basically, I'm just saying that it would be better if you didn't predict a team to lose in the quarters/semis, or call a regional weak or full of "middle class" teams, or any of the other negative things I've read in your 3 predictions this year. Try to remember that this program is about high school students. Many teams are purely student designed, so for you to call them weak, middle class, etc. can crush a budding designer without you even knowing it.
The predictions are fine, interesting actually, just leave out the negativity.

my $0.02...

Don't take the analysis to heart. None of us do.

There's always a difference in ideas when it comes to realism and idealism. Realism being what Billfred said, there will be losses. Idealism is "oh hey they can win too"

Personally, having a brilliant team such as LF comment on my teams robot would be taken as a challenge, just as any prediction would. And please, I respectfully ask not to have "GP" dragged into everything on CD....its pure idealism.

Thanks LF and everyone else for the support. I hope the prediction isn't a curse so hopefully we will do well. I can't wait to start playing some real matches tomorrow.

...which is their own self-imposed handicap. Recall Dave Lavery's comments at Kickoff this year and from 2008. In this age of AIM, email, Twitter, and box.net, there's no reason a team can't get in touch with an engineering mentor, even if that mentor is three states away.

I'm not Looking Forward, but I'll defend Looking Forward's right to post its analysis.

Everyone has the right to their own opinion.. I made it perfectly clear I was not telling LF to stop posting, or even that I disliked the predictions.

Apparently I hit a nerve, since pretty much every one of my sentences was picked apart, however as much as LF has the right to say whatever he/she/it wants, I have the right to have an opinion on LF's statements/predictions.

For the record, I agree that teams should work with mentors for all the areas of the team. One of my biggest likes of FIRST is the partnership between students and mentors.

I don't think anyone here is trying to silence you, we are merely sharing our opinions on your opinion.

If comments are posted about your team that you find less than favorable you are left with two options. The first option is to go into your competition with your head down, resigned that you have no chance of winning. This option results in a self fulfilling prophecy, if you think you can't win then you won't. The other option is to use the comments as "locker-room material"; use the comments to inspire your team to work that much harder all weekend.

The interesting thing about this is that I can already tell you which option is chosen by the "elite" teams. If the Week 5 LF post says that 1114 sucks and they have no chance of winning GTR, I know that they will work that much harder. They will put that much more effort into strategy, scouting, and robot improvements.

After practice matches today, most of the predictions were pretty accurate about SVR.
We have a tough schedule ahead of us going up against all of the teams mentioned.
I noticed that many of the teams were spending quite a bit of time figuring out how to drive with 5 other robots on the field. Many teams have either not practiced much or I saw quite a few teams spending the whole day putting together their robots.

After competing with 935 in Kansas City they may be the sleeping dog. I expect they will be in the finals in Dallas this weekend.

Wow, that bad, eh?
I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

So, it's Friday night. I was at work all day, so I have no idea how any of the regionals are going...how close are the LF predictions? Just keep in mind that...

1. They are predictions, not guarantees.
2. LF is human, with associated foibles
3. This is fun, something like guessing at the game hints.

I'll throw my 2 cents in.

Looking Forward's predictions are not meant to be taken to heart. I don't see why anyone would get upset about them. It's just an honest analysis of the field prior to the Regionals start. Looking Forward is Human (or a group Humans) and therefore has the rights to make mistakes and be biased. Anyone who has a problem with Looking Forward's predictions has the right to make their own or, could just ignore this thread.

Seriously, this is supposed to be a fun way of telling everyone who to look out for. The key word is fun.

Does anyone know how the Peachtree Regional is going? FIRST's information page on Peachtree is so unfortunately BLANK... I'm glad to see 971 on top at SVR, there don't appear to be any jamming issues. Seems as though LF got that one right.

What is with all of the Negativity towards one's (or one group's) opinion. Don't take people's opinion to heart. FIRST is about fun, lets not spoil that. All I can say to every team this year is to try your hardest at events and don't let others get you down. Tomorrow is the last day of week 3, so everyone try to have a good time and make it a good day. Only you can make it a bad day.

971 is one of the most dominant teams at SVR.

I'd say 1280, 971 and 254 are all about on the same level.

The 1280 robot needs to get real close to score. But when it does... :)
