To be clear 65 hasnt entered, they are not on the official list. 2771 and 2500 have added to make the official list 339 teams. To be clear I am just speculating based on the teams that are qualified, the teams I list in the next sentence are unconfirmed. 65, 201 and 326 will all affect your chances to be in the same division with 25
Anyone from 65, 201, 326, 818, 1918, 2188, 2470, 2549, or 2620 want to update us on their team plans?

That's true but you are the favorites if there ever were any. I realize that whether you're the HOT team or a rookie team, you can rise to the occasion and become national champions. But so far you've risen to every occasion, even in Michigan State Champs, probably one of the hardest events this season. Good Luck, though! (like you need it  )

Thanks. Welcome 1918 and 65! We are up to 341 teams. That just leaves:

thanks for the update! As much as we want to be with 25 also, I'd rather have teams that qualified rightfully attend if they can. We only had a chance to be with 368 because 360, 364 and you folks 365 are attending. Usually, not enough in between 359 and 368 decid to go or too much in between. ;)
We have never been in Curie also while 368, I believe, in all of their years, has only been to Curie, and it looks like they might be there AGAIN.

Oddly, I thought about your number while I was typing it, Jared:]

One more update before I go without internet for a while.

In the 341 teams, I didn't notice 2 teams. Welcome 2549, who confirmed. The other team is 1701 (Welcome!) which is very interesting because they are 20th on the FiM list and I previously only had thru 16 (Team 818). I'm pretty sure this means that at max 4 teams out of 201, 2620, 2188, 326, 818, 66, 703, 2645 (8 teams, the later 3 I hadnt included) can register. Also teams like 123 and so on down the list might register until we get 4 more FiM teams. Without knowing more (definitive yes or nos from teams) I cant make another guess. So once again (with feeling:D ):
Anyone from 201, 326, 818, 66, 703, 2645, 2188, 2470 (from 10K not FiM), or 2620 want to update us on their team plans?

If this list holds out, it looks like 503 will be returning to Newton this year. Woo!

Maybe we'll be able to team up with 1918 this time. You guys threw us for a loop at West Michigan and definitely showed your strength at States. Plus you were sweet pit buddies too :p

343 now. Looks like 201 added, breaking up 67 and 217. I can't spot the other newcomer with just a quick glance.

Re: Question: Championship Divisions

I'd love to be in Curie this year, I think all it takes is one or two more teams that's less than 816. I've been on all of the other fields in my Last Three years of FIRST and it would make my last competition as a Student awesome If I can say I've been on all four.

816 Trivia Time!

2006 - Newton 0-7
2007 - Galileo 2-5
2008 - Archimedes 5-1-1
2009 - Is this the year we go 7-0?

(those are just Qualifying matches)

I can because I have spreadsheet that tells me where to look:P . Welcome 201 and 2470 (who confirmed from 10K)!
Unfortunately, judging by this post, 326 doesn't look likely due to funding. That means max 3 out of 2620, 2188, 818, 66, 703, 2645 and possibly Team 123 etc... down the FiM list. I'm actually leaving this time:
Anyone from 818, 66, 703, 2645, 2188, or 2620 want to update us on their team plans?

Agreed

Didn't they do some jiggling in 2007 to make the divisions more division winner balanced?

I believe so, and historically the algorithm changes every couple of years. For the past two years it has been largely the same, so I'm expecting a rather strange looking list to emerge, making these predictions, though largely amusing and quite interesting, sadly unlikely, at least in my mind.

Odd, TBA doesn't show 175 as winning BAE. FIRST database error?

I want to see 179 +190 +11 again. Curie alliance 2004:cool: May be possible to make 2/3 of that alliance hehe.

Cuse 07-04-2009 23:26

Re: Question: Championship Divisions

Yeah, the 3rd Finals match isn't recorded, so it's a perpetual tie with no one winning BAE. A lot of matches are missing from FIRST's reporting of that regional, and it's messed up the OPR stuff too, so we're only ranked for CT.

Go figure.

Haha sick. In '04 I believe we were 4th or 5th captain and then chose 190 first then 179? Not sure. But it'd be pretty sick to get part of that alliance back together.

Question: Is it certain that MORT will be in Curie in the real division or is it not always start in alphabetical order of divisions?

Team 703 will not be attending this year, due to several reasons including funding, time, etc.

We'll definitely be back in Atlanta next year though and hope to catch some off season events this year as well. :)

Usually, they'll be put up under the Championship 2009 page on FIRST's website. I don't know if they announce them but they don't really need to, they'll be up on CD 2 minutes after they've been uploaded. My guess is they'd probaby be up by this evening if they're coming out today.

In 2007 and 2008 it was alphabetical. In 2006 it went Galileo-Archimedes-Curie-Newton. In 2005 it was Archimedes-Curie-Newton-Galileo. 2004 Newton-Galileo-Archimedes-Curie.

So no, we won't know which division is which until the announcement.

These should be the last 3 from MI, they had to go all the way to #68 on the FiM ranking to get their last team (Atlanta nominees weren't even numbered that far). 348 up now... I'm betting they stop here, because it divides evenly by 4 to get 87. I'm expecting divisions any minute now (I can only hope)

They usually don't go up until later in the afternoon. Around say 5pm.

Yeah that's where the hoping comes in. I'm pretty sure it'll take them a bit to arrange them and get the order they want to get a semi-even distribution. If anything, if this is a stopping point, it allows rampant speculation that could actually end up in a correct prediction.

If this holds then curie is ridiculously loaded. It will be scary and incredibly fun playing in that division.

I heard it through the grapevine that 348 teams is it. No more new teams will be added.

Congrats to 2767, but since they are a rookie how did they qualify? I don't see that they won an award to make it to Atlanta..

They must have went through the FiM rankings, and some teams above them might not have the ability to go to Atlanta. Thus, they were next in line to go Atlanta.

Regular sort, 348 Teams. 40's addition (welcome!) discombobulated some earlier projections. ;)

Unofficial - FIRST may choose to fly a "sort"-ie (nyuck) and drop a sort bomb on all of us yet. :)

looks pretty random when you sort by team number and look at division...

Yay, we're with 842! and 148 and 1625 and 33 and 16 and.....

Newton looks like a great division to play in - some really awesome teams to be found! Including the NERDS, Pink Team, Cyber-Blue, X-Cats,...

I'm really excited to have the chance to play with Bomb Squad (Team 16 has literally been part of my family, but I don't believe we've shared a field since I joined Team 980 in 2003).

Re: Question: Championship Divisions

After looking through these divisions a couple times, I think there are some pretty significant differences in depth.

Galileo looks to me to be the most accomplished field, followed by Curie, Newton, and Archimedes (IMO).

Bob Steele 08-04-2009 13:05

Re: Question: Championship Divisions

There does not seem to be any apparent order that the teams were picked if you look at the number sorting. Nothing like what we have seen in the past.
Must be a random sort by number or they used some other sorting parameter.

We look forward to playing in Curie...

NASA TV generally carries Championship on Friday and Saturday (all day). Hopefully, the event stays on schedule so the finals on Einstein are broadcast.

The Championship information page on the FIRST web site includes this:
Quote:

*Live viewing of the Championship courtesy of NASA - NASA will Web cast the event. You may also view it on NASA TV.
That's the best and most official schedule I know how to find.

I haven't checked...

Maybe some how there is a fancy algorithm for this. Possibly... add all the team numbers up for each division and see where it goes from there? :p

So Dave,
how did you do it? :D

We're always in Newton or Galileo every year. At least our HP, who pushes the cart wont have to walk as far.
Wait, are they switching the locations of the divisions also? :P

I'm pretty sure Dave doesn't have much to do with the division selections... And it would be interesting if they switched positions of the playing fields too, but I doubt it.

We've been on Galileo or Newton every year I've been on the team also.. Except this year. Curie here we come!

It'd be cool if they did it where 4 people got in a room with a list of teams. Each person was in charge of a division and they just went 1-4, 4-1, 1-4,... to pick teams for their division. Granted, this would probably take for ever, and there is probably a much more involved explanation, but I'd love to be a fly on the wall in that room.

Rick 08-04-2009 14:43

Re: Question: Championship Divisions

My guess is they simply randomized the list of teams, then went ABCD ABCD down the new randomized list.

Those were the predicted divisions according to an algorithm he was trying to use to guess what FIRST would do. You changed divisions because he kept adding teams before you, so you would shift over according to the algorithm.

The list here is unofficial. Use the official FIRST site for official division lists.

Haha yeah I realized about 15 minutes after I posted that it it was probably some FF thing, being Koko Ed and all...Thanks for clearing that up for me!

Ummm... Wrong subforum. Lucas isn't Ed...

FF has its own subforum (under Games/Trivia), and doesn't use divisions of any form for the Championship. The random list isn't even random for said event, it's the list of teams in order of FF points starting at the 101st team on the list.
