Re: Great Human Player in 2009
Our shooter is about a 90-95% shooter. I have seen multiple judges go up and congratulate her after our matches had ended. Team 547 also has a ridiculous shooter as well as 1771 and 1414

Definitely Sebastian Hill from team 1983!!
SHOOP DA WOOP!!!! |
Re: Great Human Player in 2009
16 and 1388 have some very dangerous human shooters. If you're in range, look out!
|
Re: Great Human Player in 2009
Brain Taylor AKA BT from 103.
The kid is a beast! |
Re: Great Human Player in 2009
Our Human Player on 1351 was able to get 2 out of 3 super cells in, but in 3 different matches.

Re: Great Human Player in 2009
Team 1013 has an absolutely wonderful human player. In qualifications all the way up through finals when 1013 was aligned with us, almost every single ball she threw landed either in a hopper or a trailer; exactly where she intended them to land. What makes her especially dangerous is her ability to seamlessly play both the outpost and corner positions with no apparent change in accuracy.
Watch out for her in Atlanta! |
Re: Great Human Player in 2009

The best I've seen though is from 2090 this past weekend in Hawaii. When you can consistently win matches, even in eliminations when the supercell is the difference, that is epic. |
Re: Great Human Player in 2009
Yes, the outpost player for 1013 has my vote, too. Check out the finals on the Blue Alliance site for Vegas. She shot left-handed, right-handed, both handed, on the fly, and was incredibly disciplined in her target selections. She was amazing.
|
Re: Great Human Player in 2009
I do not know his name, but the Human player from Team 115 was really good. He helped the team a lot in eliminations at the Davis regional.
|
Re: Great Human Player in 2009
Ashley (i believe) from 2022 IRS, good enough when we played them in the semi's at Midwest we intentionally had our entire alliance on the opposite side of the field from her, though she still managed some from there.....
(IRS = I.MSA R.obotics S.pecialists) |

Re: Great Human Player in 2009
The Payload Specialist on 1241 was very very dynamic.
He would jump over the shield and shoot downward on the goals to get the balls in before the robots could get away. Teams started staying good and far away from him after a while. The Payload specialist for 103, Shauna from 1511 and 188 also stick out as well as Antione for my team who got alot of compliments not only for his skill but for his smart penalty free play. |
Re: Great Human Player in 2009
It's hard to tell over the internet, so of the 3 regionals I attended, I found 177's human player to be the best I've seen so far.
|
Re: Great Human Player in 2009
Ben from 340 was insane with super cells at FLR. Much of our elimination strategy depended on them, and he didn't disappoint. :)
|
Re: Great Human Player in 2009
The human player from 2638 was ridiculous. He probably scored around 50 points a game (at least 1 Super Cell per game) each time he was on the field for finals.
|
Re: Great Human Player in 2009
Team 1098 shooter is from the programming team and shoots 90%+ and got all 4 super cells. He is a freshman and did a lot for our team, in fact team 16 gave him an award for his play at the St Louis Regional.
|
Re: Great Human Player in 2009
The kid on 2377 (C Company) was scarily good at Chesapeake, sinking probably 85% of shots from the fueling station to a trailer at the outpost. 40's human player is also extremely good.
|
Re: Great Human Player in 2009
Our human player from 2075 almost always was throwing from the opponents side of the field, and on multiple occasions the opposing alliance would tell each other to play on the other side of the field, the further side from there driver station out of fear of him.
A team walked up and asked "Our team scouting data says that your human player shoots 100%, is this true?" |
Re: Great Human Player in 2009
The best I've seen in person so far has been the human player from 175. He was definitely the most consistent at both BAE and CT.
|
Re: Great Human Player in 2009
at VCU the human players from team 88 and 975 were probably the best two there.
|
Re: Great Human Player in 2009
Team 270 had a decent Human Player, Team 271 had a pretty reliable one. Team 2161 had a beast human player. he scored a super cell form cross field and kept us in the quarter final match.
|
Re: Great Human Player in 2009
Team 231's human player performed quite well at the LSR. He made 6 out of the 7 supercell's he got and the only one he missed was a desperation shot at the end of are quarterfinal's match. This year the human player can play a HUGE role in the matches.

Re: Great Human Player in 2009
Since not a lot of people are commenting from Michigan I will put in my two cents, this is not a comprehensive list by any means, just some ones that stick out in my mind.
1 - Incredibly Dynamic, so full of energy you can't keep the kid down. 27 - If this kid gets a super cell you best get away and even that wont save you. 397 - Not great if the target is moving but is usually good for between 7-10 in auton (paired with the auton strategy of bulldozing the opposition into her) Most comfortable in the middle seat. Keep in mind, these are just teams I noticed, considering I watched very few matches I don't recall all the human players. |

Re: Great Human Player in 2009
234's human player is the best that I've seen. He was making 3/4 field shots and in eliminations, I think he only missed 1-2 of the supercells he got, which probably won a couply of our matches. I'd give percentages, but I don't have any. This is based only on BMR, since I wasn't able to really watch any time else
|
Re: Great Human Player in 2009
When it comes to clutch, I know I speak for all of 217 in thanking Ashley from 2022 in Midwest. When I heard the flinstones immediate reaction was to watch her put a supercell in an unsuspecting trailer. We never would have made it into Semis without her.

I would like to thank 188 for the compliments and the Best Human Shooter Award that you gave us @ FLR. I'll have to check, however i think he won several more awards by other teams including 1511, 1547 and i believe one of the G.R.R teams.. I apologize if i missed out on any teams that gave us the Best Human Shooter Awards. |
Re: Great Human Player in 2009
I know everyone is going to say their PS is good, but we're pretty happy with our guy. At Florida he hit 7/8 super cell shots, including 2 in one match (that won us the match) and had a pretty high percentage rate on regular moon rocks.
I remember 425's human player being pretty good, I had to start consciously staying away from him because of the shots he was making. Also I'll put another nomination up for 103's PS, from what our scouts gave me and what I saw, his shots looked pretty darn good. |
Re: Great Human Player in 2009
Quote:
That kid was dressed like an 80's basketball player and hit some unbelievable last second shots. |
Re: Great Human Player in 2009
Team 234 has a really sharp shooter this year and can get about 70% in a given match, and 365 is really good for loading their robot in auto, they can get ten or eleven by the end of autonomous.
|
Re: Great Human Player in 2009
I know im biased but i gotta say our human player is one of the BEST. She had a 91% accuracy through peachtree and palmetto and it showed!:D
1771 and 343 also have sick human players |

Re: Great Human Player in 2009
Ok...I am biased as well...but I didn't collect the data. According to another teams scouts our shooter on Team 2865 was one of the top human players at the Seattle Regional (and he did it from the outpost position). He also was very consistent in Portland, Oregon. Our 'bot was primarily defensive and only scores 5-10 balls a match, we knew we would be relying on the human player and Ricky didn't disappoint us or our alliances.
|
Re: Great Human Player in 2009
1771's HP is the best I've seen to date. Considering he is the school's varsity quarterback, that might not be an accomplishment, but he's out there, and one match, I saw him shoot this entire load, and he only missed 1.
|
Re: Great Human Player in 2009
Let's not forget 2199. Two regionals - two great outings. Their HP was a Super Cell Maestro!
|
Re: Great Human Player in 2009

-- I also have to give props to our 6'5" Human player, Aaron. At traverse city teams gave him the nickname "sharp-shooter". He consistently gets 18/20 moon rocks in opposing trailers, many of these are half-court and beyond. Aaron has never gotten a penalty and always contributes a major portion of the score. Many teams have told us that Aaron was the one of the best human players present during our past three competitions. I'm on drive team, and thus not a full-time scout, so I can't confirm this myself. However, I do know that he's the only Human Player who has been able to score on our trailer during autonomous with our rotation at full speed (this happened during practice, not during an actual match). |
Re: Great Human Player in 2009
Lets not forget about the human players that don't score points though. There are a few of them out there that almost exclusively load up their alliances robot(s). From what I've seen the average scout probably only takes into account how many points a HP scores, not where the balls end up.
I know a few really great Human Players across a number of teams that fall into this category. ;) |

I'll second these. We had to play against 1241 a couple of time & I got to see his skill much too much. Much too close. Interesting style & good accuracy. My 340 drive team had nothing but compliments for Shauna. I heard "smart" more than a few times. She helped our driver line up to the outpost to get the EC. Too many payload specialists were CLUELESS out there. Our drivers had to run into the lexan to get some other PS's attention. But not Shauna, she's one great team player! Good shooter too. |

Grrr... i can't edit first post anymore  i wish that i could edit it constantly, Thank you for post here who were great Human Player

Re: Great Human Player in 2009
Team 2415 has an awsome human player. You do not want your robot any where near here, which pretty much means anywhere on the field. She is great and there robot is awsome, they won both palmetto and peachtree.

Re: Great Human Player in 2009
I've gotta give props to 1155's HP; from what I saw at CT, he was a beast at the outpost.
You didn't want to stick around the opposing outpost for more than a couple seconds if you saw him there. I mean geez, you'd be filled up faaaassst... |
Re: Great Human Player in 2009
team 2090 buffnblue is well deserved to be on that list..
at the HI regional, i beleive it was his supercell shot that lifted them gave them the upset as the 4th or 5th seed team over the number 1 seeded alliance (team 192, 359, and another team..) and off to the final match. |
Re: Great Human Player in 2009
btw not only did they have a beastly HP,
but a beastly robot as well.. and i was looking at their robot last year.. and to me it looks like it used a suction mechanism? that is awesome.. similar way that funky monkeys used to manipulate the ball except 1771 looks way simpler and more efficient imo |

And Seth and Sam from 343 were both awesome, not to mention Sam's dancing before the finals. ;) See you guys at Championships! Meredith (the red head) |
Re: Great Human Player in 2009
Something that disappoints me is that a lot of teams choose because of who the team is and their status. I seen lots of good human players in michigan and it looks that pretty much they human players on here that were chosen are all on veteran teams. Team 217 The thunderchickens switch between different human players and from what I have seen from their strategy, they dont really shoot because they load their robot in autonomous mode. Im just saying you guys really need to see these human players in person. I know for a fact that I am a good human player for may team. Volunteers and other teams even told me how good I am. There are a lot of good human players out there you guys should really make these choices after the world championship or even IRI.

Re: Great Human Player in 2009
The one big thing that i have been noticing is that there are two types of human players, smart shooters and "not smart" shooters.
The "not smart" shooters will not wait for the easier shots and instead will take half court shots. They may be really good, but they could be better if they wait for a easier shot. When they sink a couple of half court shots they get noticed. The Smart shooters wait for the good shots. They will prey on anyone that comes near, but since they only shoot the occasional super cell bomb they never get noticed because they are not glamorous amazing shots. They fly under the radar and no one really notices unless they are keeping %. thats my 2 cents. |

Someone needs to post the video of him shooting a FULL FIELD hail mary at the end of Newton Semi-Final 1-2. The supercell hit the floor about 3 feet short of a trailer against the opposing driver station. The ball bounced right into the trailer! That was the second highest combined score this year (we won the match 133 to 92). |
Re: Great Human Player in 2009
Team 1918 was on the receiving end of Team 177's Payload Specialist. In autonomous, we would drive from the corner to the outpost and stop at the outpost for an empty cell. In most cases, this didn't result in any balls in our trailer from the corner. In finals match 3, he put about 6 in our trailer from half court. We lost the match 104-98. Those shots made the difference. Great Job  (just kidding).
|
Re: Great Human Player in 2009
1596 Instigators had an amazing HP. He was hitting 20 balls minimum a match from the outpost.

Re: Great Human Player in 2009
Team Rush 27's HP was amazing. A few games hinged on his/hers success with several SuperCell shots making it in.

That was a beastly shot^.
Secondly, I'm not sure which team this human player was from, but during autonomous, she would get like 5 balls and throw them over at the same time, and each one would go in. Multiple times I saw a robot get too close and she would fling like 5 over and make them in. Plus she wasn't too bad in the long range shots either ;) |
Re: Great Human Player in 2009
Our human player is awesome, no matter where you place him. Match 25 @ MI Championship we got pinned and could not score, things were looking bad until our human player saved us.

Re: Great Human Player in 2009
Great human players I've noted other than 2022's... 177. He drained shot after shot after shot, and then went on to chuck this amazing supercell shot in the semifinals that basically had everyone holding their breath... then it bounced in and everyone screamed. (edit: seems that was mentioned already :D)
An alliance in Minnesota that beat us was primarily formed, if you ask me, on the basis of human players, and they kept 3 matches very close. 1986's guy is really good at the outpost. To add insult to injury, their robot would camp by the outpost to throw empty cells and if you got near when their HP wasn't loading their machine, you'd get hit by their HP like that. Our human player got 18 of 20 balls in once from the outpost. Several matches of ours tipped solely on her contribution. Other than these guys, I wasn't really paying much attention. |
