2009 Chief Delphi Web Hug

It's that time again. Time for everybody to come face to face and get out from behind those monitors, keyboards, and thousands of miles of Internet.

What: 2009 Chief Delphi Web Hug
When: Thursday, April 16, 2009 12:00 Noon
Where: Courtyard between Hall C and the Dome. (map; the big orange/black 47)
Who: You have a forum account? You're invited.

Mike Martus (from Chief Delphi) will give a quick hello, let people meet & greet, share some statistics and hand out some goodies. It shouldn't take too long (15-20 minutes).

Just like the past few years, we will be having a raffle this year. It will work the same way as previous years. Starting tonight, we will be giving away 15 raffle tickets each hour. You may get one this coming week, and one next week, for a total of two chances to win. You'll see the link show up top above the spotlight -- it will show for 1 minute (the 47th minute of each hour). We'll be picking the winners before the webhug, to save some time, but you must be present to win and pick up your prize.

The ranges for getting your two raffle tickets are as follows:
4/1 - 4/7
4/8 - 4/14

This year, so far, we have the webhug t-shirts, a couple of the brand new HEXBUG Ant, a bunch of copies of Solidworks, some VEX stuff, and possibly more to come. I'll reply to this thread with updates.

People have mentioned that in the past they forgot about the webhug because Thursday is a very busy day. So, again like previous years, you can get a text message reminder. Go into your user cp, click Text Mesasge Reminders and set up your reminder.

If you don't know what the Web Hug is, and want to learn about previous years, see these links:

Re: 2009 Chief Delphi Web Hug

A few noticed the ticket said 2008 and had the 2008 date on it -- the ticket is still valid, I just forgot to update that part of the code. You can always go back to here and see your tickets, and print them out again if you need to.

Any page.

Remember to look for it on real time, not just your computer time. My pc time is about either 2-3 minutes slow or fast as certain times.

The spotlight Brandon is referring to is the quote that is up at the top of the page. Those quotes are typically called, spotlights.

Above that is where more information appears. Right now it is showing the Michigan FIRST Robotics Competition Championship and the MN North Star Regional, etc. The link for the raffle ticket will appear on the 47th minute of the hour for one minute. Watch for it.

There is also a clock on the bottom of any page as well.
When that hits X:47 look up top for the link for your ticket!

At the bottom of the notice it says to print out ticket. Where will this ticket be sent so I can print it?
I clicked on the raffle as soon as it came on today at 1247 but I have not received any notice.

There are a finite # per hour. When you click on it, you read the blurb that says that. Then a drop down on the left hand side shows your ticket with your name and # assigned. That is the ticket. You print that and voowala. Did you see the drop down?

You can find a link to print it (at least I could) at any other time when the "get your ticket box" is up- you should see a link towards the bottom of the page with your ticket #. Click it, and then print the pop-up that pops up.

If it rains, we'll be just inside the building with the pits, between the escalators down and the doors outside. I'll update the map soon.

The 2004 webhug was held inside the GWCC, by the "waterfall" (was that Building B?) I don't know whether it was raining outside, but it was almost raining inside.

You know what I love? Noticing the time at 8:42pm, then begining to read a thread. Said thread then interests me enough such that I decide to respond to it and hit 'reply'. Somewhere in between page refreshes, it turns 8:48pm. :ahh:

I love that, and the fact that it's happened 4 times today. In all honesty, I couldn't do it if I planned it that way, which is obvious because I can't seem to get the raffle ticket that I've planned to get 4 times already...

Coolest feature ever I saw in a building in 2004 in Atlanta!
That was the only year my normal activities during Atlanta took me to see that & I keep telling myself I want to see the multi story waterfall again, but I never make it inside that building (mostly because all the doors I try on a whim are usually locked!) :yikes:

Hmm... Let's hope there is either some water in the fountains, or something soft like a pillow to cushion your landing if no water is present - or you could just always be lucky as I was & squirm away from your throwers!!! :D

Not necessarily - The Webhug starts at noon, while practice matches run until 12:15.
Last year we were scheduled to be in the last practice match before lunch, which then got pushed back to be the first match after the break. This left us, the drive team, extremely little time to grab some food before having to get our 'bot back onto the field in time to resume the practice rounds and stay on schedule.

Anyway, I have my two tickets - hopefully I'll be able to make it this year. :)

Wow, I must be really bored and/or crazy, I'm posting on CD.

Anyway, to clarify, fountainhood is granted to graduating seniors, so there you go.

Oh, and I'm not going to Atlanta. I'm no longer in FIRST, a decision that I should have made freshman year, but I was too much of a sociopath to do it.

Ok, I have my 2 raffle tickets and I have made a pinkie swear promise to myself that I am going to be present at this webhug. I won't forget and I won't get busy doing something else. (That's the pinkie swear promise part).

So I will see all of you there. woohoooooo!

Got my two tickets as well. Hopefully, I'll be able to get away from the FTC inspection in time to hug everyone.

Thanks CD for doing this once again - maybe I'll win a prize this year!

Dang, I keep missing these tickets. I will be there, though. For once, I don't think that I have any other commitments at this time on Thursday.

Can Andy take my tickets? I just found out I have a mandatory Referee meeting at Noon on Thursday - and I can't be late ...

Oh well, maybe next year!

I was there and I had my two golden tickets.
I was toward the outskirts of the group when I made a comment to Steve W. that all the winners seem to be coming from near the front rows. I than moved up near the front and two names later, they called my name. Sweet :D I got an official Web Hug 2009 t-shirt.

Maybe next time I won't be two minutes late for when they call my name to claim a prize...:p
Had a nice time meeting people though! I'm glad I met a lot of you!

Was very unhappy I couldn't make it this year. Field was way behind and the team wouldn't let me leave from Media duty. I tried giving my tickets to KokoEd, but I guess he didn't impersonate me well enough. :P

I'll be there next year though. I promise! :)

It was really nice to see all these (probablly very) dedicated users of CD gather together to recognize this great forum called CD.

I was very thrilled to finally recognize some of the people which I would always see their little avatars for every topic or reply they'd post but never really know who they were. Now I deffiantly know CD better.

I'll be honest though, that I was expecting a tad bit more to happen in this event except for the talking about the statistics, the raffle prizes and the webhug itself. Yes, I had the opportunity to talk after the webhug with several CD users that I recognize and see them most of the time in my topics, but frankly, I ain't too popular in CD yet to have a lot to talk to or with people, but I hope that it will be happening in the future.

Hoping to see you guys in future webhugs! :)

People I recognized: BillFred, Koko Ed, JaneYoung, LibbyK, MichelleCellio, Brandon, Alan Anderson and probably some more...

Jealous of all the winners again!
Mostly jealous of Sci-Wizard and Phalanx (my mom and dad!) who both won prizes!

Re: 2009 Chief Delphi Web Hug

I didn't win any prizes but I got to:
- get a lot of hugs and smiles
- meet members of the CD/FIRST community
- see some familiar faces and share a few moments of being together
- introduce members of a rookie team from Austin to Andy Baker - woohoo!
- miss the actual web hug while standing 3 feet away because I was talking
- enjoy the time well-spent

It was the first web hug I've attended. I put it high on my priority list and set it as a goal not to miss this year. I'm so glad that I did.

It was great seeing everyone!
