Re: Curie 2009!

We are doing some slight changes on our robot to make it pick up faster and better. We will probably be out on the filler line later on in the day.

Team 188 is excited to be a part of this amazing group of teams:

Our division's best can match up with the best in any division.

We are deep, and will field 8 strong alliances, with scoring threats at all 3 spots in every alliance.

I think the alliance that takes this division (and eventually Einstein :D) won't necessarily be the three best "robots" on paper or by statistics, but the three teams that can buy-in and cooperate the best, and build relationships and trust that allow the alliance to execute some pretty intricate strategies.

Trust that your partner will roll a super cell out to your robot instead of taking the shot if called upon. Trust that your partner will drop what they're doing to break you out of a pin. Trust that when you pin sometime, your partner will come and punish the pinned robot that much more. And trust that your partners understand that preventing a SuperCell scored on you is as valuable as scoring one yourself.

Going through the list of teams in Curie, it's not only that there are "good robots," but teams that also really "get it" when it comes to non-robot intangibles.

I think this is where the alliance that comes out of Curie is really going to shine.

P.S. For anyone curious about 188's robot: Team 188 - Blizzard X - Video

Shawn, we really do need to meet in Atlanta. Everything you said is accurate and I agree 100%. Teamwork is the biggest thing needed this year in Lunacy. I hope our team gets the opportunity to play with yours, you sound like an excellent coach, and our team would love to play with you guys.

Oh, and awesome video. On that note, our coach made a little highlight reel himself...

So, is anyone doing anything new and exciting to their robot for The Championship?

816 has some tricks up their sleeves....

Miss Daisy will be sporting a new, taller turret that lets us score from a wider variety of angles, as well as an improved roller system that will help us handle some the mangled balls (with the plastic rivets) that jammed us in Philly. Hopefully we will be able to swap out the new for the old in a matter of 15 minutes or so on Thursday morning.

Your Robot is quite sick Brad... You might be a better driver than me... Just maybe....

Re: Curie 2009!

Similar to what I did last year, I ran through 200 simulated qualification match schedules (all 102 matches, using the FIRST match generator). I used each team's average opr for their contribution to a match. I calculated the standings for each of the 200 simulated qualification schedules, and then looked at some statistics from the aggregate results.

When I went back and looked at last year's data, a team finished within 1 standard deviation of their average seed 60% of the time, and within 2 standard deviations 95% of the time. Only 3 teams seeded higher/lower then their min/max seed.

Lets just say that someone brings like 4 foot balls to the competition(similar to beach balls) for the stands. What do you guys think the chances are that your teams would keep them going around the stands? Just curious.

I'm sure people from my team, 1675, who are in the stands will be willing to help keep it going ^_^ sounds like a ton of fun :] I can't wait to see all of you guys in Atlanta. It's going to be an exciting division! Good Luck to all teams!

Team 75 probably would be willing to keep it going to. It should be something fun to do while waiting for the field to be reset.

I know about half of you in this thread already picked up a userbar...

But for anyone that missed it, I posted some fun signature userbars over here:

Support Curie! Or, if you can't pick, there's even one for every division!
FTC bars too, if your team is competing in both!

Wait, is this a trick question? I'll go with 1/3 of the total number since 3-member alliances started.

14 teams were second round picks, While 6 of those teams were picked very last.

Team 399, Eagle Robotics, with their robot The Tin Man

Not gonna lie, i was a little shocked how similar our robot is to yours. it works on the same principal.

the only differences i could spot from the video is:

1) ours can pick up balls 2 side by side all the way up
2) it looks like we have more ball storage space
3) we have a specially designed empty cell holder
4) we have rollers on the bottom and top of the opening to get a little bit more oomph while dumping

I believe he was asking how many of the teams in the Curie division were 2nd picks of an alliance that won a regional, which Brett answered.
