Re: Newton 09
Looks like quite a few good teams. 121 is ready to play! :)
|
Re: Newton 09
Galileo might be the toughest division, but there are incredible teams in all of them. It will be interesting to see the win distribution over all of them on (similar to the count they have on the blue alliance).
|
Re: Newton 09
I'm excited... looks like a great field of teams, and very well balanced. I think we should see some great competition in Newton this year!
|
Re: Newton 09
It's a nice mix up after the last few years. Some old familiar faces and some we never get to see with usual break up.
|
Re: Newton 09
340 is excited to have a chance to play with some of the great robots this year that, up to this point, we have only seen on webcast.
Also, Rochester area teams are going to be a force with 191,578, 1511, 1507 and us. I can't wait!!! Good Luck to all teams, we'll see you on the field! ISSSAACCC!!!!!!!! |
Re: Newton 09
I'm excited about this division....definitely nice to see some friends on our field that we don't often get to play with at the Championship!
|
Re: Newton 09
Looks like a lot of great teams... and a number of Regional Chairman's Award winners.
I'm just wanting The Pink Team and MOE to sit near each other to see what the robot cameras do. |
Re: Newton 09
OH YEAHH!!! NEWTON BABY!!!
Can't wait to see all the old friends and meet some new ones! Looks like we got a great line up of robots here including our 3rd year in a row with 340!! :D 1511 is ready for action. See you out there! |
Re: Newton 09
While we're not with any of our fellow Hawaii teams, we are definitely looking forward to participating with our fellow Newtonians!

Re: Newton 09
This should be fun, can't wait to get the match schedule.
|
Re: Newton 09
The predictions hve been driving me crazy...I am glad that we finally know who we get to play with! Good luck all! See you next week......:D
|
Re: Newton 09
FYI: The Newton Division does hold the most 2009 Regional Chairman's Award Winners with 14 teams!!! Go Newton! How about them apples!
[Curie is in 2nd with 11, and both Archimedes and Galileo have 9 RCA teams.] |
Re: Newton 09
292 is pumped to play with everyone! We're going to have a blast!
|
Re: Newton 09
good luck to team 2996!
from 1332!!!! |
Re: Newton 09
1038 is excited to be in Newton!!
See you all next week. |
Re: Newton 09
BeaverworX is ready to play, GO NEWTON!
|
Re: Newton 09
I'm dissapointed that Wave Robotics is on a different field than us, but otherwise I like what I see so far. Except having to face Winnovation again. This time, we'll be ready ;)
I don't know many of the teams on the list by number though, which is nice since I didn't want to face too many of the same bots at the tournament. |
Re: Newton 09
Team 135 cannot wait to play with the other GREAT teams on Newton. I hope to see Einstein, or, if all else fails, I hope to see the world champs come from Newton, so we can say that we played them.
|
Re: Newton 09
This looks like a good balance of teams. I don't think this is the toughest group.
|
Re: Newton 09
Team 2996 is more than excited for our first championship, and thanks 1332 good luck to you too.
|
Re: Newton 09
1557's ready to go;)
only 7 days btw...... |
Re: Newton 09
This division is great. Galileo can have their superstars, we have a very deep middle class that will make some awesome elimination alliances! Teamwork and strategy will win this one. If you want to see the best matches in Atlanta, then gravitate towards Newton!
|
Re: Newton 09
I'm very excited to see the large spread of good, solid teams. We should see a decent number of powerful alliances battling it out in our elims.
Whoever makes it out alive to the big show is going to have a few more battle scars decorating their robot. ;) |
Re: Newton 09
Good to Compete with you again Winnovation 1625 and Cyber Blue 234. Can't wait. Also come to check out our pit everyone, we are working on some cool stuff.
Also we regret with not being able to compete with 1771. Not being able to compete with you in Palmetto as planned. Maybe next year. |
Re: Newton 09
FLR teams are going to make an impact. I know the division I'll be watching.
|
Re: Newton 09
Let the other divisions have their "super star" robots. Newton will produce the best third bot out there for Einstien and that is the most important pick in my opinion.
Good luck all teams and GO NEWTON!!!!! |

Newton looks like a good Division to be in.
For 1918, there are a lot of new faces. I am looking forward to meeting new friends. See you in Atlanta! |
Re: Newton 09
This is gonna be awesome! It will be cool to play with many teams we have not had the chance to compete with and against in the past few years, we are excited :D... See ya at the Dome, we need Newton to be heard across the place!
|
Re: Newton 09
Thanks Team Driven! We look forward to seeing you on Newton too!:yikes:
|
Re: Newton 09
This looks like it's gonna be a solid division with a lot of depth, I think whoever makes it to Einstein out of here will have a good chance of taking the whole thing.

Definitely a deep field in Newton. Can't wait to play with these great. I'm very excited to be in the same division as our friends 2659.

There probably aren't as many "super star" teams in Newton as, say, Galileo, but we have a good strong field. We have a lot of those always-strong "100s" teams from the northeast.
Pink is still working on some improvements and will be ready to play. It will be interesting, and fun. |

Re: Newton 09
So instead of doing homework like I should be, I've been working on a little flipbook / storyboard book of all the teams in Newton, along with their highest regional placing (for Michigan teams, both District and State), and their OPR. Would anyone find this of use? If so I'll upload it when I'm done.
(also if you don't have pics on TBA and wanna be in the Team Directory could you send me one? It's fun hunting on Google and team websites but it would be easier) |

I still can't believe all the Rochester teams in Newton this year :) Well, no one has done this in about 40 posts or so: ISSAC! |

Re: Newton 09
As the only Ohio team in the division we are very happy to see our friends from Indiana: 135, 234 and 292. They are wonderful representatives of Indiana and great examples of the excellence of F.I.R.S.T. in the state. By the way, they are all very good this year:ahh:
To paraphrase Joe Pendleton, on behalf of Newton, "... we're going to Einstein and --- we're going to win." "Who's with me" Bluto |

Re: Newton 09
Hello Newton!
I can't wait to see all of you guys a week from now. I'm so excited to be in competition once again! I'd like to make sure everyone knows that if you need any spare parts, copies, button making products, or the use of machines such as a drill press or a band saw the Team Driven pit is open for your use. So please stop by if you need anything at all, even a smile! ;) |

Re: Newton 09
Thats weird?!?
TBA says 46 doesnt exist as a team |
Re: Newton 09
It was part of 46's strategy. They wanted to fly under the radar as a "bad" team. Don't worry about it.

With that Disclaimer: I heard that 46 is the only team in the Baker Division this year. Whatever alliance prevails on Einstein will get the honor of playing 46. Of course, 46 will single handedly (with 2 placebo trailers) blowout the Einstein winners with their triple Moon Rock Howitzers and legal descoring mechanism :D I wanted to post that before but decided not to hijack the thread. It appears to be as inevitable as 46 winning the World Championship. |
Re: Newton 09
Although I will not be attending the Nationals this year (its taking a back seat to schooling haha) I will be spending my Friday and Saturday watching the many great battles to come out of Newton. I think matches will be pretty intense and pretty close. Even with no MAJOR teams in this division, all teams are bound to go for the gold. Good luck to all teams and bring back the National title for the Newton division!!!!

He is right, you might not know much about a team, but doesn't mean they are not any good. It is going to be very challenging.
|
Re: Newton 09
I thought I might let you guys in on a little secret. Myself and a few others from 1730 have been working on a special present. It will be in our pit and there is no way you can miss it. I'm encouraging you all to stop by our pit, and take a few minutes to get a taste of what Team Driven does. We are still puting a lot of work into it, but this will definitely be a FIRST? Haha, oh man. Come check out the newest addition to our pit. Oh and feel free to stop by anyways :P Good luck!
|
Re: Newton 09
Similar to what I did last year, I ran through 193 simulated qualification match schedules (all 102 matches, using the FIRST match generator). I used each team's average opr for their contribution to a match. I calculated the standings for each of the 193 simulated qualification schedules, and then looked at some statistics from the aggregate results.
When I went back and looked at last year's data, a team finished within 1 standard deviation of their average seed 60% of the time, and within 2 standard deviations 95% of the time. Only 3 teams seeded higher/lower then their min/max seed. Code:
Team Avg Seed Median Mode StDev Min Max #1 seed Top 8 |
