Re: Galileo 2009

Well I sponsor a rookie team and we are excited to be part of Galileo. We are a small team, only 6 members. So we are looking for a team that would like some extra help with scouting, since we cant do much alone.

No question that if 67 and 71 team up, they will be hard to beat.
However, lets not forget 71 and 1114 at Midwest this year, beaten by a well-rounded 8 seed. I think what's more important is who they would pick as the 3rd alliance member. 1646 in that scenario would be the key to that alliance.
With a deep field this year, I'm not so sure an 8 seed will be as successful like in the past, 7 vs 2, etc. #1 seed can still create a well-rounded alliance.
I dont think defense will prevail as much as in regional play. There are just too many offensive scoring machines in this division.
During seeding matches, scouters will have to identify those machines that dont really score and adjust their strategy then.

In '08 you only had 2 trackballs for 3 teams and no one really shared the trackball in hurdling.
In '07 you had the deadly bonus rampbots and an 8 seed could pick the best one out there.

Did somebody say defense? I heard someone say defense.

But in all honesty we do have the ability to score & do super cells. We've had better luck in a defensive role vs. an offensive one in most matches.

I have not seen many of these robots, since we have been competing for the last 4 weeks straight....but I know that 1717 is very similar to 217...and we have had a lot of success with that style of robot watching our backs.

I am very interested to see how well we will do outside of Michigan. It appears the style of play varies throughout the country.

Looking forward to Friday morning!

Oh, nothing to worry about over here on the West Coast....

This is going to be the most exciting division, In my opinion, not just because 1902 is it in. But because to the depth of teams. I will be here in Orlando rooting and cheering my heart out.

I agree. The depth of this division is simply fascinating. I'm not interested in the 2nd picks this year than I am about the 1st picks, simply because there are so many teams to pick from.

We won't chase you away if you can get more cool Bob Jadloski for us. :)

Bob used to take team pics for everyone outside in the plaza, but I believe he told me FIRST was doing something else this year. If he attends the Championship (not a given), he isn't sure what he'll be doing.

I'm kinda biased, but I'd really like to see 236 win... so I'm rooting for Curie.

Wouldn't mind seeing someone from our division but I'm pullin for 217. Go Thunder Chickens!

Anyone wanna trade a shirt for a MORT bandana? Ellen I believe you owe me an uberbots shirt from last year;) I gave one of your members the bandana last year to hand to you, don't know if it ever got there.

Yeah, somehow we never ended up crossing paths at all. I never ended up with the bandana either... I'll have to find out who the bandana bandit is! I'm already making people do my t-shirt trading dirty work since I'm not going to be at the Championship this year... maybe I can coerce them into getting you a shirt at long last.

Or be on the 5th alliance team with the middle team.
And another note: We have never been with any of these teams at CMP, only AGAINST most of them. Because Galileo has so many low-numbered teams compared to the other divisions, assuming veteran presence makes a difference, some teams will luck out with scheduling. I'd bet on it with only 7 matches to play in a field of 87.

Agreed! In a division like this the level of competition will be fair but with the number of "average" teams the qualifiers won't be extremely difficult (unless you're really unlucky). Eliminations will be drastically different and much harder.
