This year Atl is gonna rock!! |
Re: Galileo 2009
Oh goodness....this is gonna get craaazy! Can you say stacked?
|
Re: Galileo 2009
My first reaction: "Well, at least we're not in Archimedes, I guess." That's always been the farthest from the entrance, making the walk from the stands to the pit even longer. I'm really stretching to find something to make me feel more calm about the TechnoKats being among such teams. :)
|
Re: Galileo 2009
I'm excitedddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd :D
I'm doing Queueing for Gali, y'all ready to play??!? :ahh: |
Re: Galileo 2009

Re: Galileo 2009
this is going to be a tough division, so many awesome teams, just from my quick glance
45, 67, 71, 111, 744, 1902 and of course 179 ;] |
Re: Galileo 2009
This is going to be a party!
|
Re: Galileo 2009
Wow some very good teams in here. Glad? to see we're one of them. :P
|
Re: Galileo 2009
Talk about your bargain 3rd picks, not to mention how many top notch teams will be packing up after qualifications. This will be such a blast to compete with all of you! Looking forward to it :)

It's much nicer to be on the field right by the entrance corner, with no extra change in direction required to reach a good place to sit. |
Re: Galileo 2009
The UberBots are on Galileo! It looks like it will be a fun (but challenging) field. I can see some awesome alliances being formed.
|
Re: Galileo 2009
You can always find 359 in one of the hardest divisions.
We always seem to be in the same division as 71, 111, and 179 year after year. Find the pattern in that and you solved this algorithm. :p |
Re: Galileo 2009
I am pumped and ready to go, look at all these great teams :D
|
Re: Galileo 2009
Finally a year all the divisions are pretty much stacked.
NJ looks VERY well represented....11, 25, 56, 1676, 1923...Oh my. So...can we get a little description of all bots attending? Me first MORT Team 11 Pneumatic Dumper NJ 4th Overall Selection- Semifinalist Philly 4th Overall Selection- Quarterfinalist, 7th seed Obviously Philly we upped our game. Please post up a little about your robot! Any possible alliance come to mind? Woot Team Hammond! Can't wait to play with you guys again!! ^_^ |

Well this is going to be interesting...
Does this mean I can't wear my Team 67 Jacket? :) |
Re: Galileo 2009
Man....I just ran my eyes through the list again.
Uhhhhh can you say STACKED! This should be the best Championship yet. |
Re: Galileo 2009
Wow...stacked lineup..I'll be happy if we're in as a second pick..
|
Re: Galileo 2009
Where did this list come from? I don't see a list on the FIRST website...

You have to get your bot pass me. I'm inspecting for Galileo.
I can''t be bought, but I can be rented :D |
Re: Galileo 2009
As always the competition looks tough. It's been a while since we have been in anything but Newton. It's been a tough but great year, so don't hold back. We are ready to have fun...

Galileo Google Map Great to see a great variety of teams! Some from Brazil, Puerto Rico, and Israel! Surprisingly none from Canada though. I made it editable by anyone, so feel free to move your team in your exact locations and add a little additional info, I just put the teams in their cities that they provided on the FIRST site. |
Re: Galileo 2009
when i first saw the list earlier at work... i was like "wow, this division is stacked" the 1st AC can't go wrong during alliance selection, just look at all the great teams, 20 ,25, 40, 45, 67, 71, 111, 179, 359, 744, 987, 1318, 1646, 1902, 1923... this division is amazing

Our robot will be easier to see this year, too. (it's clear, but it's a lot bigger then our 2008 rabbit). Also, We have at least one WA team on each of the four fields. Be sure to check out 1983 (Curie), 488 (Archimedes), and 360 (Newton), IMHO three of the top WA teams. Shout out to 359, glad to see you again after a fun time in Oregon. |
Re: Galileo 2009
I'm not going to be in ATL this year (I guess there's something called college that's semi-important and I can't manage to get out of it...hahah) but I am SOOO excited to watch all of you teams on the webcast! This is an amazing group of teams, and I can't wait to see you all raise the bar of competition.
I'm already planning a Galileo watch party with friends...so stoked! :D |

For those that didn't see my predictions
here is how I believe Galileo will turn out Galileo 1. 67, 71, 1646 2. 45, 987, 1902 3. 111, 1717, 418 4. 1250, 744, 2775 5. 40, 25, 20 6. 179, 56, 1923 7. 359, 65, 1332 8. 1208, 494, 1742 Backup bots will be 973, 1195, 11, and 932. 230 will continue giving everyone a lightshow. Code:

Re: Galileo 2009
Quote:
Or be on the 5th alliance team with the middle team. And another note: We have never been with any of these teams at CMP, only AGAINST most of them. Because Galileo has so many low-numbered teams compared to the other divisions, assuming veteran presence makes a difference, some teams will luck out with scheduling. I'd bet on it with only 7 matches to play in a field of 87. |
Re: Galileo 2009
Quote:
There's so many good teams in this division that it's going to end up like the MSC with A LOT of good teams going unselected. I'm just hoping we're not one of those in such a deep field. |

I think the one thing that can be predicted accurately is that the teams who make it to Einstein will have earned it. I look forward to the competition on Galileo and watching all of the teams compete together. I also look forward to trying to follow what is going on in the other divisions with all of those incredible and intense team efforts in play. Einstein is going to be spectacular, 2009-style.

Well I sponsor a rookie team and we are excited to be part of Galileo. We are a small team, only 6 members. So we are looking for a team that would like some extra help with scouting, since we cant do much alone.
|
Re: Galileo 2009
No question that if 67 and 71 team up, they will be hard to beat.
However, lets not forget 71 and 1114 at Midwest this year, beaten by a well-rounded 8 seed. I think what's more important is who they would pick as the 3rd alliance member. 1646 in that scenario would be the key to that alliance. With a deep field this year, I'm not so sure an 8 seed will be as successful like in the past, 7 vs 2, etc. #1 seed can still create a well-rounded alliance. I dont think defense will prevail as much as in regional play. There are just too many offensive scoring machines in this division. During seeding matches, scouters will have to identify those machines that dont really score and adjust their strategy then. In '08 you only had 2 trackballs for 3 teams and no one really shared the trackball in hurdling. In '07 you had the deadly bonus rampbots and an 8 seed could pick the best one out there. |
Re: Galileo 2009
Quote:
But in all honesty we do have the ability to score & do super cells. We've had better luck in a defensive role vs. an offensive one in most matches. |

Re: Galileo 2009
Similar to what I did last year, I ran through 200 simulated qualification match schedules (all 102 matches, using the FIRST match generator). I used each team's average opr for their contribution to a match. I calculated the standings for each of the 200 simulated qualification schedules, and then looked at some statistics from the aggregate results.
When I went back and looked at last year's data, a team finished within 1 standard deviation of their average seed 60% of the time, and within 2 standard deviations 95% of the time. Only 3 teams seeded higher/lower then their min/max seed. Code:

It has already been said but wow this is going to be an amazing field! Can't wait! To be honest I think this division is so deep with quality that making predictions of elimination outcomes is just going to go out the window. I suspect epic matches, and predict amazing plays.

Re: Galileo 2009
With so many good teams playing during qualifications, you guys think that this year especially, that there's a chance for a mediocre robot who got paired up with great partners each match to be ranked #1? I don't know if its happened before at the Championship, I know it happens at regionals, but how bout at the big show?
