Re: 2009 Championship Webcast

Is anyone else frustrated by the score bar covering the bottom half of the field and not being nearly transparent enough? I'm watching Archimedes, and am questioning why they can't just tilt the camera down a bit, as there is a bunch of vertical room. Right now, the score bar is just kind of hovering, with extra space at the bottom of the screen not covered by it. I hope this is fixed by tomorrow.

Not nearly as frustrated as I am over the camera work.

Can we PLEASE keep the camera angle wide enough to see the majority of the field? I was trying to watch a robot in a practice, and instead I saw 0:10 worth of closeup of a Purdue logo and another 0:20 worth of closeup of a team's electronics board. Who cares!?! I want to see how a match is developing or how a robot is performing, not how pretty someone's decorations are.

I wish I knew who I could send suggestions to, and I know this isn't the first time that this has been a complaint.

I'm not one to complain but the audio on Archimedes is just horrible, it's all distorted.

I just need the webcast to last me for today and tomorrow. I should be there in person on Saturday :)

I'm watching on a Macbook as well. When I clicked the link to the Curie field, it opened up in safari with a cheeze-it size screen. It was live, though. In order to make sure it works properly, you probably will need flip4mac since it's a Windows Media Stream. If you don't have that plugin yet, you can get it at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...omponents.mspx.

The way I bypassed my browser was by right clicking on "windows media stream" and copying the link. Then, I opened up VLC media player (also free download http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html), went to open network, then pasted the link into the media resource locator (MRL). It opens right up in a window where you can change the window size and what not.

There may be easier ways of doing this, but this was the best I could figure. Now I just need a way to watch this on my iPhone!

Install Flip4Mac and I'd use Safari over Firefox. Or you could just use Quicktime to stream from a url. The video is supposed to be small. That's the resolution of the stream :(.

I have updated Gameday with the webcasts. I still have some work to do to make sure the team list and scores work properly. Hopefully I can knock this out tonight at the hotel. I'm by myself this year down on the floor setting things up so I can't promise that I can work everything out today. I will do my best.

Thank you so much! This definitely worked for me. Now I have it full screen and live. And now I can't wait for tomorrow when the REAL matches start! Thanks again! :D

I have Newton practice matches 33 - 44 on my computer. Does anyone want me to parse/upload them for scouting purposes?

Welcome to the club! This camera work issue has been discussed on CD for years. Personally I'd like the overhead view, but somehow the video directors like the extreme close-up action shots better. More action-y, I guess, but less informative.

There is the viewpoint for people actually there and want to see closeups -- they can see the action live so don't need the overall view. That is what I perceive the video is being created for.

Then there is the viewport for people who are watching from afar -- this is what I think the video is supposed to be for. Also, as there is only a single "official" video of the field, the one that gets on Blue Alliance etc, there should be an official record of what happen on the field, not artsy closeups.

I was watching practice day of Manchester and as it was practice day none of the camera crew was there, so they just had the "balcony" view. Which was good!

They should take the webcast and scouting feed out of the editing booth feed before it's edited so it is locked on the wider angles.

Anyone know when archives will be up? (I sure hope the sound for the awards ceremony and Einstein field events is better than it seemed to be for the individual fields!)
