Your Team's Dream Alliance

This question came up in my head in Minnesota when our team had a qualifying match with what would end up being the #1 and #2 seeded robots. I decided to wait to make a thread though until after Championship so everyone had a good idea on the robots of the world. Now that the season's over (excluding awesome offseason events) and you've had time to digest the Championship, what would your robot's dream alliance be? If you could pick any two teams to work with you, which?

In Happy Fantasy Land, I'd go with 2970 / 2826 / 1714. Our team already knows how well we can work with 2826's drive team, and 2970's an all-star team from Wisconsin that's worked well with us in the past and can get huge scores racked up fairly easily. We all have good HPs, too. 2826 and 1714 could convert empty cells as well, the any HP could roll or throw Supercells into any of the robots, and rack up even more points. When in need any of us could play defense for each other.

Got a dream team in mind?

Definitely 870/1717/67. We can play killer defense and score a big dump once a game, 1717 can consistently score and we paired with them in Atlanta, and 67 is well...67. :P

For 857 i think it would have to be 217, 111, and us. We can get 1 good dump and run 2-3 EC a match and then play D and then 217 and 111 could do what they do best.

Re: Your Team's Dream Alliance

During the Portland Regional, 2915 got the honor of being on a alliance with 488 and 2471. It was a ton of fun, and all of the robot's features complemented each other.

we got up to semifinals, and were eliminated due to technical problems (anyone who was at the Portland regional will undoubtedly remember the horrendous static problems)

488 is an INCREDIBLE team to work with, their drivers are great and their bot handles moon rocks like none other.

We had the honor of pairing up with 45 and 234 at BMR in the quals. The drive team said the strategies were amazing, the communication between coaches & drivers was direct, clear, and effective, and the roles of each team within the alliance were well-defined and well-crafted to each robot's strengths. We would love the chance to ally with them again (IRI and/or CAGE Match, perhaps?).

I say us, 67, and 217 and let the moon rocks rain in :yikes:

we have worked with both in the past and it was crazy each time, all three of us together would run out or moon rock stock ridiculously fast...

Re: Your Team's Dream Alliance

For my team, it's been a dream alliance for the past two years, but it's never quite happened.

Each year we've looked forward to teaming up with 1771. We're really close at competition and we respect each other.

We have also gotten oppurtunities to team up with team 1746. They are among our most favorites, if the most favorite, and we enjoy teaming up with them whenever we get the chance.

So naturally we would like our dream alliance to be 1771, 1746, and 1261. We have all spent off-season time together, and we all have very didactic and animated players and members.

There are so many teams we love to work with it's hard to choose. 67, 217, 33, 494, 70, 469, 27, and 330 just to name a few. We love to be paired with HOT not just because they are awesome but because the alliance name becomes Freezerburn. So I think my dream alliance would be with 67 and 217 any year. Not just because both are crazy awesome but also because the alliance name would be the Freezerburned Chickens. :p

That would be pretty epic...I want to see that really badly now.

My dream alliance would be my team 2079, 20 and 79...just for kicks.

I'd also like 2079, 67 and 217, that'd be pretty awesome.

I also want to add that 1403 and 48 are possibly the two coolest teams to be allied with. When we were allied with them they were both really nice as well as good at cheering and coming up prematch introduction poses/stances.

Re: Your Team's Dream Alliance

I'm personally fond of all these choices...

Past 2009 Alliances:
- FrogCub #2851 - 1701, 503, and 2851
- Critically Built on Frogs - 85, 503, and 2188
- TNGator Force - 1250, 280, and 503
- OP SimFrogtics / Simtriotic Force - 1114, 2056, and 503

Dream Draft:
- Team MAGNA - 503, 1941, and 3115 (Awesome sister teams!)
- Chickenfrogs of Tomorrow - 67, 217, 503 (Because we NEVER get to play with 217 and rivalry triangles are fun)
- SIMWILDFORCE - 111, 1114, and 503 (Because we still feel bad for hitting Wildstang's control board in 2008)
- NC Phoenix Frogs - 1918, 703, and 503 (Because you scared us to death in West Michigan)
- Thundering Frogwranglers - 217, 148, and 503 (Because I personally have a robo-crush on Tornado and Roxi)

Nostalgia:
- The HOT Beach Force - 67, 330, and 503 (2005 World Champs)
- Pi Hi Frog Warriors - 573, 503, and 1015 (2007 Great Lakes Champs)
- Krunchy Husky Force - 79, 65, and 503 (2007 Galileo Finalists)
- Soaring Frogs of Tomorrow - 67, 326, and 503 (2008 Great Lakes Champs)

Re: Your Team's Dream Alliance

I would like to see these alliances:

1 - 234 - 56

123 - 45 - 67

111 - 222 - 33

... and this alliance would be singularly awesome:

Juggernaut (1) - Team Mort (11) - Wildstang (111)

I must say, in my 12 years of being on a FIRST team, I have not seen a qualification match like that of Galileo match 42, where 45, 67, and 111 were all on the same alliance. People were saying that if we did not win, then we should walk home. Thankfully, we won. The silly thing is that our 3 teams strategized for that match for about 20 minutes, thinking of all of the crazy things that our alliance were going to do to us ("turtle defense", etc.).

That would have been cool too.

At our regional, we very nearly got another dream alliance when 1868 (before their upgrade) almost fell to us and 254 with the last pick. (the 3 of us practice together at 1868 and 254's lab)

That would have been lots of fun.

In VCU we had a Dream Match... straight out Cinderella Story. 1086 and our partner team Sparky 384 were picked last in the Finals, us on the second seed and them on the first. We pretty much looked each other in the eye at that point and said, "See you in the Final Match!"

Both of us managed to go all the way, and finally we met up in the end...

And then...

I'd like to see that. I don't want to start any fights, but my money is on the 1771, 1746, and 1261 alliance.

I just want to get our 2655, 2415, 832 alliance back together at Peachtree next year. That would be epic. So that is my dream alliance.

Yeah, 399 had pretty good drivers. Our team liked to refer to them as the nuke; they might only strike once a match, but once was enough. 222 also had the honor of taking a rookie team to Einstien field, but moreso upset the alliance I expected to make it there - 1114, 2056 and 503.

Go ahead and guess how I came up with the 3 of these:
1. 148/217/1114
2. 65/67/217
3. 188/217/1717

Killer Bees are my best friends at competition because they're always next door, yet we haven't paired up in elims since...2003 Sweet Repeat (from what I've heard, someone can confirm that) Foley Freeze is just an awesome team who we love to be around, plus I really liked their chassis this year (anyone from 910 will get the joke).

In one match, 423 actually worked with 816 and 103; it was awesome! However, I would prefer 2753 because I feel their robot is just faster and better; especially after seeing it at PARC with the modifications from Atlanta. That robot is a beast!

Re: Your Team's Dream Alliance

Hmmm...for Breakaway I would like no specific alliance because I hate leaving teams that do have the same aspects that I will mention not be mentioned.

One bot would need to be a great 3rd zone defense player and a stellar kicker. The other bot would need to be an all-around player who can successfully kick balls either into the near zone or score. From there, we could either strike in the near zone or play with our deflector. Both should be able to hang as well.

I really didn't care about the specific partners but if the team can do those then we definately want you :D !

Bjenks548 27-07-2010 18:04

Re: Your Team's Dream Alliance

For breakaway I'll take 469 in the mid zone for obvious reasons. 67 to start in the far zone then move to the mid zone to get all the balls in the cycle. And of course us in the near zone doing what we do best, scoring any misses and flipping defenders (gotta love double drive trains).

To be fair, "three good scorers" wins a lot of games. :P

Obvious 469 alliance: 2791 cleaning up in front, 469 mid, 294 playing defense and scoring from the back zone.

Avoiding the obvious "1114 and 67" and trying to come up with some partners we actually could have had at regionals: 2791 in front, 230 midfield, 20 in back.

On paper, we initially were aiming for an alliance that had a solid back autonomous that could either defend or clear balls depending on the need, and picking up a front zone cleaner in the second round. Then we made a strategy change when our kicker was never up to snuff and became a frontzone "striker", seeking a solid midfielder with the first pick and a "3-and-D" with the second.

gorrilla 27-07-2010 18:51

Re: Your Team's Dream Alliance

I would have,

801 in back defending,

79 in the midzone shoveling and hanging,

1557 up front plowing.

It worked great at Florida until we broke down :(

Vermeulen 27-07-2010 23:43

Re: Your Team's Dream Alliance

I would want a good looper, like 469, in the middle. That way, they could funnel balls to us. 469 specifically would be good because they aren't easily moved from their position. For defense, that's harder, because the robot would ideally be able to kick from long range, cross over bumps, have the ability to hang, and be able to keep up with the offensive robot. I can't think of an particular team that fits that description right now, so I'll leave it at that.

BrendanB 27-07-2010 23:46

Re: Your Team's Dream Alliance

1519: Mid/far
1718 or 1086: Near zone being amazing as always
2337 or 79 (494 and 70 are also close behind, but cannot hang but are still amazing mid zone bots): Redirecting, hanging, and moving balls forward.

I know that 469 is not listed as a mid zone robot party because I feel that either of those 4 plus 1718 or 1086 in the near would do far better! Yes it is a gamble but it would make for an insanely high scoring match!

kenavt 28-07-2010 11:38

Re: Your Team's Dream Alliance

As a team with a deflector/looper bot and suspension bot, I'd really like some hangers and scorers, somewhat obviously. And since we're in Michigan, that opens us up to a bunch of realistic dream alliances. But this is what I'd like to do:

Near bot: 910, The Foley Freeze. They're a great scorer - genius scorer, actually - and they're always great fun and great friends! They're an easy pick.
Middle bot: 2337, us/EngiNERDs. We can deflect, suspend, and move balls pretty well - good enough to feed 910.

That leaves a last, far feeder/maybe defender bot, someone who can clear a bunch of balls to us and 910, and then finish them off. Ideally, we'd have a hanger who could suspend off of us here... but none spring to mind. So:

Far bot: 1114, Simbotics. They've always been a team we've admired, and they can move, score, and hang (but not with us).

The three matches we've had with these two teams have been Kettering qualification match #38 w/910, MSC qualification match #88 w/910, and Curie qualification match #84 w/1114. Scores: 12-2, 19-5, 10-1. Bring on the competition!

Re: Your Team's Dream Alliance

217, 1676, 1086

217 playing near zone, 1086 in the middle, and 1676 hoppin back and forth helping control the mid and put away goals.

Re: Your Team's Dream Alliance

Personally, I liked our Alliance from Oklahoma City Regional. Team 1987 in the back clearing balls, 935 playing midfield, and Metal Mustangs (2410) playing offensive and doing what we do best.

I know that most people would love to be on a 469 team, and I would to, but we played with them at Champs, and we didn't really have much to do. All we did was put in what they missed, and keeping the defender busy. Not exactly the super exciting job we usually have as striking.

Just my 2 cents. Enjoy =)
