FRC kick-off 2010 season dates

I didn't see a 2010 season thread started yet and the annual where could the world championship be hosted was started in the fall of 2008.

As an affiliate partner for FTC with our local planning committee meeting in June, any solid ideas when FRC kick-off, ship day will be for 2010? We always look at the FRC build window and regional dates as we solicit volunteers from those mentors and students.

A quick check of the GWCC bookings has:
04/14/10 - 04/17/10 FIRST

Going backwards 2 weeks for last regional/Michigan State event, then five weeks for regional/district events, plus another week and a half for ship date, then six weeks of build one arrives at
Kick-off January 9th:) or 2nd:ahh:
Ship date February 23rd or 16th
Regional events
wk 1 Mar 6 / Feb 27
wk 2 Mar 13 / Mar 6
wk 3 Mar 20 / Mar 13
wk 4 Mar 27 / Mar 20
wk 5 Apr 03 / Mar 27
wk 6 xxx xx / Apr 03

World Championship
Apr 14 - 17

If FIRST has kick-off on January 2nd then we again run into the shipping issues of this year for local kick-off folks dealing with kop deliveries during a holiday weekend!:ahh:

Sigh. I have to get my calendar book for the next year earlier and earlier every year. :D

The six week schedule puts me on Spring Break during our team's home regional, assuming it stays Week 3, and the first month of build season.

I'm excited.

an interesting thought

Most of the time you can check the venue's website and see when FIRST has it reserved for next year. (To see that it is still a week 3/on your spring break)

Call the FTC people at HQ on Tues. They will have the FRC kickoff, ship date and the weeks allotted for the FRC regionals, although will not be able to tell you which regionals are which weeks.

This is a very reasonable request, especially coming from a FTC Affiliate Partner and they need to hear from you.

Based on the countdown that Bill Miller has been doing, kickoff is January 9th.

I either imagined this in my little head, or I was actually told it. But I remember being told that build would only be 5 weeks for 2010. But please remember, I am not 100% positive that I was actually told this.

I somehow doubt build week will be five weeks. Maybe you're just mixing up numbers from another location.

I would see no feasable reason for FIRST to shorten build season by a week, unless they want to give more students more late nights and more headaches :)

This would probably be the reason! Though, the way it is now, it ends well after schools that have January finals, so I don't think they should shorten it.

Re: FRC kick-off 2010 season dates

I heard from a fairly reliable source that March 13th would be Week 1 next year and we would still have the same 6 week build window. However, my response must fall under the category of "Rumor" for the time being. This potential schedule would move us away from the traditional post President's day ship date, which would be unusual.

Hopefully FIRST can answer this question very soon.

I'm not sure if I would call it traditional, or coincidental. Since kickoff is traditionally the first Saturday of January, it is coincidental that Presidents day (which is the third Monday of February) is six weeks after that. However, in 2004 and 1998, kickoff was the 2nd Saturday of January, and ship date didn't line up with presidents day.

It would be so weird for the season to be that late to me. I've only ever been in robotics when kickoff was the first Saturday of January. I would be quite unused to something else. Not that it would be bad, it would just be weird.

Re: FRC kick-off 2010 season dates

I heard through official channels that kickoff is January 9, and the first week regionals are planned for March 4-6.
SBPLI will be a 4th week Regional in 2010.

6 weeks of build would probably put ship date at February 23 if FIRST decides to follow the normal pattern.
Seems like it'll be a typical season.
