No, it isn't. You'd think that both methods would be somewhat random, perhaps using the second letter of your user name even more so, but for some reason it's terribly lopsided.

I wonder why that is?

I would say that it's because it's more likely that people have vowels as the second letter of their user name and all of the vowels (except for sometimes y) are on Team A.

That's probably not the only reason but probably contributory.
