Re: Marriages

It's cool that FIRST brings people together that otherwise may have never met. I knew of some inter-team marriages or other relationships started by FIRST, but I didn't realize there were so many.

Do they have to wait until their team makes the final four?

At least the ceremony would be shorter than some of the speeches.

This is a side topic but Indy's comment triggered a thought.

My marriage has been and continues to be strengthened by my involvement with FIRST. My husband has willingly housed the team trailer in his store warehouse and the company has supported the team for several years as a sponsor. He also has supported me, encouraging me during days of frustration, depression, and doubt - when I've wondered if it is worth it. He has had the wisdom to say, yes, it is worth it, keep going. It is because of the students. He knows that the impact on the students is valuable and the experiences they have will serve them well throughout their life.

Apologies for going off track.
Jane

Two members of team 2337 got married last summer, so not two teams, but still a marriage.

We also have an '03 and an '05 grad that met while working together at Ramp Riot 2005 and will soon be married.

Our new mentor who moved from another team said that his wife and kids are now even more involved ever since he joined our team. He brings in his wife and kids whenever he gets the chance. Definitly one of the coolest mentors I've ever had the priveledge of knowing and having join our team. :)

My wife and I were on Cyber Blue 234 together in HS. I think her experience on the team helped her realize why I had to commit the way I did during this season as a mentor.

A little bit of Frog Force history: Around 2000-2001, Mr. Gee of 67-fame took an art teacher to a regional as a first date. That teacher, Mrs. Harvey, went on to start 503 (Team F.A.T.E. at the time) and marry Mr. Gee, who later joined on as a mentor for her new team.

Marriages help form dominating Michigan teams? Sweet. Guess we need someone from 103 to marry someone from 25 in NJ XD

If they had kids, they would be a super-breed of robot builders and drivers, and would win dozens of awards per season.

I was just married in November and I have to say that Robotics has been a great experience for the both of us as I have brought her in as a mentor for Team 399. The team has posted the following in a mentor bio for her, "Sylvia Haro, vowed in sickness and in health, but was unaware of the unspoken commitment to Eagle Robotics. She has found a place with the media team assisting with website and database programming. Her legal experience has greatly helped us with our technical writing..." Needless to say, our team gets a kick out of our marriage and makes sure to bring up the fact that I need to ask her permission before going on robotics trips or making sure that I bring her along  lol.

When we were dating I was living in Wentzville and she lived in Webster Groves...and I was mentoring the Wentzville team that was been filmed for the PBS documentary.......Webster Groves was 1 hour away from Wentzville.

Then next season a rookie team needed help near Webster Groves, 10 minutes from her house........:)

The rest is history :

Not quite the same story, but the first official "date" that my now wife and I had was the OCCRA championship in Michigan in 2000. We spent most of the "date" nowhere near each other, as I was there to work at the event, and she got volunteered to work in the pit area.

I think just as many spouses look forward to kick-off. "Yeah, he/she won't be under foot for awhile." :)
