BASH at the Beach
The TechnoTicks and friends are again hosting Bash At The Beach to be held Oct 3rd at the Lyme-Old Lyme Middle School.
Registration is free; we only ask a donation to help fund the Connecticut FLL program. Details are here: http://www.batb.us/ We will also be holding a meeting of NE area teams wishing to organize travel plans to Atlanta this year early to help keep costs down, such as chartering a plane. |
Re: BASH at the Beach
Jon,
Team 1519 is looking forward to participating in Bash at the Beach again in 2009. I sent in a query last Friday to the email address listed under "registration" on the web page, but haven't heard back from Matt yet. Is there a different contact address I should be using instead? Thanks, --ken |
Re: BASH at the Beach
Awesome! I'm hoping to be able to come home for Bash at the Beach, it has always been one of my favorite off-season events. :) I'm going to California for the SWE National Conference in October and I was worried that they would overlap, but it looks like I'm in luck!
|
Re: BASH at the Beach
I'll be holding a brief Introduction to FIRST presentation for new team mentors, students, parents, sponsors, etc.
I'll also be hosting a NEMO meeting at Bash. Contact me for more details. kkentfield [at] usfirst [dot] org. |
Re: BASH at the Beach
What is the fee for a pre-rookie team to register for this event?
|
Re: BASH at the Beach
There is no fee for registration. We are asking for at least a $50 donation to CT FLL. You can register at http://www.batb.us/
We will try to have a couple of extra robots for the rookies to use....so come and join the fun! |
Re: BASH at the Beach
Looks like Bash is less than a week away! I'm certainly looking forward to it.
Any idea on a schedule or a team list? |

How did it go? Updates?
|
Re: BASH at the Beach
Okay, BIG thanks to teams 236, 1699, 1740, 2168, and 2067 for hosting, volunteers, you made getting up at 3:30 this morning soooo worth it! :]
Teams 558 and 839, it was really nice having you guys on our alliance and it was really nice being able to make it to the semi-finals with you guys! Congratulations teams 40, 238, and 1099 on their victory today! Don't remember all of the other awards. Been 18+ hours time for bed. |
Re: BASH at the Beach
The TechnoTicks want to thank all the teams who came to the BASH yesterday. You certainly made our 11th BASH a rousing success! Your contributions to the CT FLL will help ensure the continued success of this effort.
We want to thank our fellow hosts 1699, 1740, 2168, and 2067 for all the hard work they did. It was also great seeing the enthusiasm from the rookie teams present. The CT Regional will certainly rock in 2010! |
Re: BASH at the Beach
Team 40 would like to thank everyone who was involved in running this great event.
You guys did an excellent job, it was great to just play the game with little to no interaction from the refs. I personally didn't here a penalty call all day. Thank You! Thank you to team 238, and 1099 for being awesome partners. |
Re: BASH at the Beach
A belated but big thanks to teams 236, 1699, 1740, 2168, and 2067 for hosting yet another awesome Bash! And thanks to Kathy Kentfield for a thorough, detailed and informative NEMO session. Finally, 1519 and 839, we've seen you play many times of the past few years; it was great finally working with you! As always, Bash is a great way to kick off the FIRST season. Our new team members were totally hooked!:)

Re: BASH at the Beach
I'm hoping I'll be able to make it back home for the Bash this year!
|
Re: BASH at the Beach
This is a great way to get prospective students, parents, mentors, sponsors and school administrators to understand what FIRST is all about. I'm hosting an "Introduction to FIRST" session immediately following Opening Ceremonies. I'll briefly explain what FIRST is and then take everyone on a quick tour of the competition.
I'm also holding a NEMO (Non-Engineering Mentor Organization) meeting for adult mentors at 10am. It will be an open discussion of all non-technical topics of interest. Hope to see you there! |
Re: BASH at the Beach
A slight change in the times of the sessions I'm doing - 9:30am for the Intro to FIRST session and 10:30am for the NEMO meeting.

Re: BASH at the Beach
Any info on the 2011 Bash? I'd love to volunteer!

Too bad - Bash@Beach is lots of fun, the SAT's not so much.

Re: BASH at the Beach
We are looking forward to all at the OCT 1 Bash at the Beach!
We will be opening up registration soon (as we are still dealing with a HS construction project and delayed school opening logistics) & will post here as soon as the 2011 site is live. In the meantime, if there are any FRC FMS/Scoring System experts out there that are available to volunteer, we would love to have you (and house/feed/host you FRI & SAT nights if that helps). Other volunteers of course are welcome as well! Folks can contact me via PM or leaving a note here. Time to do the LogoMotion at the Bash - Vince |
Re: BASH at the Beach
Hey Vince,
I can help with game announcing this year again if you like. Team Paragon looks forward to this event every year. Good luck with your logistics. |

Oh well. I hope you guys have an awesome event. I know that Aces High is very excited to attend. |
Re: BASH at the Beach
Senor Mas - consider yourself "hired" for the gig! Thanks for volunteering.
Joe - I guess we just got into a bad date tradition regarding SATs but it is driven by a date that is late enough to get things started once the school year kicks off but early enough to give us time to shift into FLL mode (where we help make fields for the whole state, and host our own FLL event). Not really good excuses, but that is the reasoning behind the scheduling madness. |

There will be a NEMO meeting from 10am to noon, location TBD. We'll either open up the discussion to any non-technical topic of concern to the group. Please let your adult mentors and parents know so they attend.

Any word on when registration opens yet? I just looked at the website and it looks like they're having some technical difficulties. Keep us updated...

Notified the url's owner of the situation. I suspect it happened because I mentioned the url in my first post, along with my signature with the words 'Tel Aviv'......it's sad that there are people who use this technology to just spread hate!

Re: BASH at the Beach
Is there an entrance fee for Bash this year? If so, could someone point me to where I could find more information about that, or shed some other light on the situation? Thanks in advance.

Beginning to get stoked about the Bash. Team meeting earlier tonight had newbies and veterans "marveling" at our pile of electrified aluminum. We discovered that somehow one of the connectors that powers a pneumatic solenoid is missing. No luck finding the little devil either. Might be "in the bag" wherever that plastic sack got stashed. So I'll be circulating a color wanted poster in the pits at BATB, with the plea to borrow one for the day. I'll attach a picture here in case there one of you dear readers can connect our solenoid for a day.
I also found out just how (un-)marvelous our team's communication is. We apparently owe thanks to R.A.G.E for the use of one of their "STOP" buttons at the Hartford regional. I'm now told that ours is not operational despite attempts to repair it. So there are two sources of horror here: bad comm disease AND a failing single point of failure that prevents the robot from starting at all. What?!?! We only have ONE of these? Now there would have been a good e-mail to write, right? So we hobbled through checkout of the robot by wiggling the stop button cable at the point of entry into its case until the tiny green spot showed up. We got the robot to work, but we're going to need a reliable device for BATB. So, I'll be cruising the pits with two pictures, in my quest to put our robot into contention. Thanks in advance for any help you can muster for us. |
Re: BASH at the Beach
The Stop button, if not the solenoid, is unnecessary.
The Driver Station space bar is a much more robust and dependable method of stopping the robot in an emergency (or otherwise). You can bypass the need for that silly plastic button by going to the Driver Station Diagnostics tab and double-clicking on the Stop Button entry text or light. |
Re: BASH at the Beach
Ill be the first to post that Team 176 would like to thank the Bash crew for randomly making the alliance we had. We enjoyed playing with Team 2168 and Team 3555. We made a run for it and unfortunately couldn't get past the semis.
I would also like to congratulate Team 195 and 2067 for having a great semifinals against us and more importantly winning the competition. Team 571, I would like to congratulate you guys on winning your first competition since 2004. Lastly, to the Crew at Bash. You guys made the competition run smoothly and quickly. I don't remember the last time that an off-season competition was finished at 3:45. |
Re: BASH at the Beach
A Great Time was had by all, from the audience singing the National Anthem when the music wouldn't play at the start, through to the finals.
Congratulations to teams 195 the Cyberknights, 2067 Apple Pi (their first win!), and 571 Team Paragon. For all of the difficulty involved with getting this 13th annual awesome off season event started (the website was hacked by terrorists :ahh: ) everything went very smoothly and stayed on schedule and finished by 4pm. As always, thanks to team 236, the TechnoTicks for their efforts, y'all did a great job. |
Re: BASH at the Beach
I'll also echo the congratulations to 195, 2067, and 571; great job guys, as well as everyone who competed. I know I had fun, as did my team. Bash is still one of my favorite things to do in the preseason.

Re: BASH at the Beach
Hey everyone, CT FIRST has been a bit crazy this month with FLL and FTC kickoffs and with organizing CT FIRST University Day (I hope you all were able to attend). So info about Bash was late getting out. All the team leaders should have been contacted by now... Fletch, not sure where they stand with volunteers...
Please encourage your team mentors to attend the NEMO meeting (it's a drop-in session being held from 10am to noon); I hate sitting in an empty room all by myself! :) |

Anyone know if a team list has been released yet?

Congrats to all teams who competed this year, and a big thanks to teams 2168 and 3451 who were great alliance partners. We had a great time yesterday and can't wait to get this season underway.

Re: BASH at the Beach
We had an Uber time ourselves!
That was close all the way to the end. Semis and finals both went to 3 games, with only a few points determining both rubber-matches. |
Re: BASH at the Beach
Sorry for resurrecting an old thread, but has anybody got a team list or other info on the bash this year?

The drama in most of the matches showed what a great game "Ultimate Ascent" is/was :( Winners: 2168 Falcons, showed the value of driver training. 236 TechnoTicks, with yet another unique overachiever. (No Wombo Combo, though) 4055 NRG, playing their role well, especially after 2168 chose to block 195, and they shut 195 down when they moved to the other side of the field. Finalists: 195 Cyberknights, you know you've built a scary beast when the opposing alliance has to assign 2 robots to stop you. Awesome targeting system, true to the end. 1099 DiscoTechs, great prevent on the defense that you provided to 195 until the double team. 3634 Hard Botties, you guys had a great day. You could score and played effective defense until your drivetrain betrayed you late. Best Safety Glasses in the house. The return to the High School was welcome. Tight arena which was Goldilocks for the number of teams. Makes me look forward to the districts. Beautiful new light and airy commons for the pits. Efficient food service. Great places to wander outside to eat and meet friends and play frisbee. (Not sure where all the frisbee's came from.....) The DJ, though green, was excellent. Appropriate volume levels that built up to the finals. Some panic (what'd we do with the Harlem Shake"? I know we downloaded it somewhere") Nothing was overplayed and the teams danced. Thanks to team 1818181 for leading the shake. |
Re: BASH at the Beach
Congratulations to the Winners. 2168 Aluminum Falcons, 236 TechnoTicks and 4055 NRG. A GREAT bash! You guys played an awesome strategy and in the end came out on top....many congrats from 195 to all of you on matches well played.
195 thanks 1099 and 3634 for a great elimination run! Was a great ride! Thanks to our gracious hosts for an awesome event. So appreciative to have the opportunity to show our new Freshmen what FIRST is all about. 195 is looking forward to working with all of you in the 2014 season! New Bots, New Games, New Adventures! |
Re: BASH at the Beach
I had such an awesome time at Bash this weekend. It was a pleasure getting to see everyone once again, and getting to have another dose of robots fun.
Congrats to 2168, 236, and 4055. It was a nail bitter in those last 3 matches, but admirably played at best. Also congrats to 195, 1099, and 3464 on Finalists, it's always an awesome time seeing your machines play. Bash was really the beginning of a new era for my personal involvement with FIRST, and while change is hard, this weekend really got me excited for all the new things the future will hold, (mentoring a new team, being involved more with volunteering at events, etc.). I can't wait for the 2014 season and everything it will bring! |
Re: BASH at the Beach
I'm a little late in posting my gratitude to the Ticks for:
a) Hosting this event and b) being our alliance partners (finally--last time was WPI regional during LogoMotion) And great job Gearheads-- even though alliances were totally random, those were intense finals! Cyberknights, I've said it before, you guys are Connecticut's team. &Discotechs, &Hard Botties, we're looking forward to seeing you all at the Groton District in March. A fond farewell to Ultimate Ascent. My favorite game ever, until the next one. |
