2007 FRC game pieces

The 2007 game, Rack 'N Roll, used these red and blue (and black) inflatable ... life-saver rings. Some were branded with the FIRST logo.

Does anyone know where I could get a few of these? I'm willing to pay. We started in 2008, but these rings have always interested me in 2007 photographs. I'd really like to have one or two for our workshop.

I tried ebay, but I was having a hard time finding anything FIRST/FRC related on there, aside from some lapel pins.

If anyone has any ideas, I can't wait to hear them. Thanks everyone!

There is a chain of junk stores in the MA and RI area called "Building 19" that apparently had a bunch of them for sale after the 2007 season. You can read more in this thread: http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=57948

Maybe someone in that area knows if the store(s) still have some and can supply you with some.

I know that my team for one has a box full of them sitting around somewhere... A lot of teams started with many of the rings but lost most of them due to attrition...

A good bet would be to ask a nearby Pre-2007 Veteran team is they have any sitting around. We do tend to pack-rat game pieces (my team still has a bag of poof balls circa 2006)

+ $.02

DeepWater - I wish we had such a cool store here in Pittsburgh!

Raumiester2010 - There are some pre-2007 teams in the area. I will email them. Thanks for the idea. If ya'll ever find that box, let me know, maybe we can work out a little sale...

Just checked over all of our tubes, and none of ours have FIRST logos they are just generic tubes. Did some teams get the first ones and some not or where the FIRST specific ones only used at the competitions? Just curious as a member of a pre-2007 team that joined post-2007.

Thanks,
mcgurky

The 2007 game had three classes of tubes.
Black: the spoilers negated any scoring on a row (other than keepers); they were also the only tube that could be removed. Any robot carrying one was an instant target.
Red/Blue, no ring: Ringers were scored 2^x, where x was the number in a row.
Red/Blue, white ring saying FIRST on both sides: Keepers were placed in automode only, and could not be spoiled. A number of them were slashed mid match by a referee--they hadn't been placed, but a team's opening a claw would have scored them and so they were removed.

Keepers are the only ones that say FIRST. The others are pretty generic (and say they aren't lifesaving devices, which triggered a number of wisecracks on CD).

We have a box or two or three available. PM me if you want some, well send some your way. I believe we have spoilers, keepers and ringers.

Jon Jack - will do, thanks!

Rack 'N Roll sounds like it was a challenging game to play. We started with Overdrive.

It was interesting... FIRST tends to throw out weird games every now and then, and it was certainly one of them. I didn't like Rack 'N Roll much at the time, but in retrospect I think it was a "keeper." :yikes:

The bracket at the championship that year was quite something. Team Hammond (71) was 1 match away from winning their unprecedented 5th Championship when they got beaten out by an 8th seed alliance led by 190, who became the first 8th seed to win the championship (and I think the second 8th seed to make it out of the quarterfinals in Atlanta in recent history)

I was wandering about my college campus and spotted a keeper hanging up on the wall. I smiled. I believe it also tipped of Chris Picone as to the location of the robotics team.

Not only that, it was the ONLY alliance that wouldn't have had a second championship team. At that point, 71 was the only team with more than one. It took another year for that barrier to fall--and it fell fast and hard, as two teams in 2008 and two in 2009 joined that elite group of teams.

Talk about a surprise--of the 4 alliances, 3 had previous champions, and none of those three won.
