[BB]: Kickoff prep and miscellaneous

The "miscellaneous" part is interesting... the results of medallions vs. pins, and why FRC won't be going with the results this year, along with Windows 7 as an OS, are some of the items in there.

I am glad they told us that Windows7 will not be a supported OS this year. It means I need to leave XP on my laptop. Thanks for the heads up FIRST :D

Is it just my imagination or are BB posts becoming less mysterious, more frequent, and just generally better?<sarcasm> Stop it FIRST, you are supposed to be big and mysterious</sarcasm>

I'm disappointed about Windows 7. I'm running a release candidate now and it's really an awesome OS, but it's not FIRST's fault.

As far as medals go, I guess they will be hanging around for one more year. I'm surprised that it's cheaper for FIRST to order medals for FLL, FTC and FRC then it would be to just buy FLL and FTC medals at a higher cost if FRC went with the pins.

FWIW, even though it is not "officially" supported, at least one beta tester has said that the software SEEMS TO work fine for them on Windows 7. So your mileage may vary, as always.

Bills Blog has gotten much clearer. It's nice that they have decided to switch to pins even if it won't be this year.

Those kids on Discovery are really cool PVC Pirates rock:cool: ! It was all over in the local papers of how two teens will get a few seconds of fame on Discovery Channel.

Also, FWIW, I know that WindRiver runs fine on Windows 7, with no real complaints. It seems to run faster, even.

Regardless of what they say, Windows 7 is basically identical to Vista when it comes to software compatibility.

Also, I have yet to find "unsupported" software that fails to run perfectly on Vista or 7 simply by "Run as Administrator" and/or "Run in XP SP2 Compatibility Mode", and I've been using Windows 7 on multiple computers for about 9-10 months now.

(Emphasis mine) That's just it: It is a release candidate, but not quite released. Meaning it can change.

NI and Wind River really can't be expected to offer support for something not yet released. I'm with Andrew, THANKS FIRST for mentioning it early enough for us to deal with it.
