Re: 2010 FLORIDA REGIONAL

Let me explain the possession penalties,

We started using our ball magnet to "strike" while our kicker wasn't working properly. The way our roller-with-bar setup works causes the ball to be lifted up off the ground about a quarter to half inch for a split second when we drive over the transition (where there is plywood under the carpet by the humps and tower), but always staying in contact with flat ground.

Other than penalties, our malfunctioning radio the last two matches didn't make us the most appealing candidate.

Sadly, right as alliance selections were beginning we were able to fix the radio (broken cable), fix our kicker's servo, and fix the hanging mechanism. We were a (nearly) fully functional robot hoping to luck out with selections, and come out guns blazing.

Instead, we will implement a solution to keep the ball on the floor when driving onto the small transition, and hopefully optimize our target tracking camera controlled variable range turret ball launching mechanism (sounds really advanced when you say it that way). We hope to be more competitive in LA, so see you there.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

And congratulations to the regional winners, it was a hectic event for us, but still a lot of fun.

What an Awesome Regional!

I wold have never known about the illnesses had I not read it here. The Regional went off flawlessly to the participants and spectators. Thank You Volunteers!

I find it simply amazing the number of matches played in the Finals. Has anyone ever seen so many ties and rubber matches before? It seems like 3-4 hard-fought matches were required for each advance. That was some great action!

Congratulations to all that attended and watched online. You are all winners for doing so.

I watched the finals on the webcast and found it very exciting even though I had no fovorite tocheer for. All 6 teams played hard and smart.

Team 86's robot was very impressive and fun to watch as it rolled and bounced around and was able to score and defend. Now I really want to go to Atlanta so I can watch it in person.

Re: 2010 FLORIDA REGIONAL

I have to say, after being in the pits all day I only really got to watch the finals. Seeing 86 roll and bounce all over the field really made my day, especially since it was my first time watching and enjoying them throughout the entire event.

I hope everyone gets better from this illness soon.

as for my thanks

1345- It was an honor to be selected to be in a alliance with such a strong robot. you had shown us how powerful you were earlier that morning when beat us earlier that morning.

1649- Year after year you guys have put a strong robot on to the field here at the Florida Regional, and this year was no exception. It was great to play with you guys on our alliance.

180- Thank you for providing my team with some very valuable scouting information. It really helped in finding gaps in our scouting data. Somebody once told me the best way to learn about scouting is to work with a veteran team. Next year, I'll make sure some of our kids learn from one of the best teams that know what scouting is all about.

1902- Even though i wasn't there for the social, a lot of the kids on my team told me they had a blast at the event and enjoyed it very much, Thank you for hosting the social event. Maybe next year i'll be able to make it and find out what all the positive buzz was about.

1369- Thank you for lending us your programmer. Without him, we wouldn't have a autonomous mode.

86- Thank you for inspiring a countless number of people with your wonderful, elegant, robot design. It was nearly imposable to play defense on such a unique robot. not to mention the robot was a fan favorite and was one of the most entertaining robots to watch in this years game to this date.

Congrats to team 1902 for winning the chairman's award. I heard how much hard work was put into making the Chairman's Award video. and i can only wonder how much more hard work is put into the various events your team does from the FTC Kickoff to the social for this regional.

Congrats to teams 1251, 86, and 1612 for winning the Florida Regional. Our alliance learned first hand how hard it was to actually play at the level you guys played at, as well as how hard it was to defend all the offensive threats your alliance had.

The Volunteers who worked the field- You guys did an AMAZING job considering al the various issues with the Field Management System. While you guys worked hard to get the field moving, the game announcer's and emcee's along with various other volunteers worked hard to keep the crowd entertained. Nothing kills the buzz after a awesome match like a field issue. but the arena was electric all throughout the regional, weather the field was operating or not.

and last but not least, congrats to Ms. Beck of team 103 for winning Woodie Flowers Finalist Award.

I hope everyone had a blast here these past three days. and i hope to some of you later int he season, if not all of your next year at this same regional.

I have to say thank you to Team 343 for picking us to be in the 4th seed with them. You truly are an awesome team and we were honored to have worked with you. We tried hard and didn't quite make it but hey it was a blast and thats what really matters. Thank you again

Andrew

P.S. I hope someone got a picture of our double hang

Team 79 would like to congratulate 1251, 86, 1612 on winning the Regional, 1902 and winning Chairman's.

and of course thanks to 801 and 1557 for picking us.

See you all at NC and Nationals.

Salbert 14-03-2010 10:36

Re: 2010 FLORIDA REGIONAL

Congratulations to 1902 for Chairman's, 79 for Engineering Inspiration (and finals), and 1557 for all their awards. You guys obviously deserve them; you showed everyone what FIRST is about. The elimination matches were so exciting with all the ties!!! It's amazing how much penalties affected the outcomes! 1557, 801, and 79 put up a great fight against 86, 1612, and Tech Tigers (1251?) in the finals.

I think 1649 EMS's scholarship was a great idea.

It was also great to see 1270 again because their team spirit is amazing!

I also thought the 1557, 801, and 79 vs. the 179 alliance in quarters were just as intense as the final matches!!!

Best of luck to anyone moving on to Atlanta on other regionals!

Re: 2010 FLORIDA REGIONAL

Once again, the FIRST Florida Regional was an excellent demonstration of what great minds can do. There were so many excellent robot designs and strategies, it was absolutely thrilling to witness. And I should know: I was doing field reset all three days, so I had a very close view :D

Thank you to teams 86 and 1612 for picking 1251 to join your alliance; all three teams worked so perfectly well together and it definitely paid off. An additional kudos to 86 on their stunning robot - all the volunteers/judges/refs/everyone were going nuts when we saw it roll the first time on Thursday. You guys stole the show at that moment and definitely deserve the Excellence in Design Award. FYI: This is 1251 and 86's third time (in 4 years at that!) winning Florida Regional together. It's thrilling.

Congratulations to 1902 on a very, very much deserved Chairman's Award. You guys are an outstanding team and an example for all! This year's not even halfway over yet, but I'm already looking forward to next year's Florida Regional! :]

Thanks to all the volunteers who made this event as spectacular as it was. Especially those who were taken out by a batch of bad chicken, feel better soon. I haven't been to every FIRST regional, but I have to think that Florida is one of the very best and the only reason it's so good is because of all the hard work you guys put in so thank you.
Congratulations to 86, 1612 and 1251 on a great alliance and a fantastic showing, and congratulations to all the teams that were there it was an absolutely fantastic event and I am so looking forward to next year:D .

We don't have them yet, but the Regional Planning Committee did have two photographers taking photos all weekend. After the pictures are edited, they will be put on the regional website, www.floridafirstregional.com.

Sarah you are alive after the food poisoning. Hope you are doing better, so sorry you were not there for 1902 getting Chairmen’s, you were a large part of that over the years.

Looking back....
SWEET!!!
I had a blast, and I'm sure the rest of the team did too. One of the goals this past weekend was to play with and against some great robots, and we sure did. Now back to the engineering job for a break, LOL.
"Exploading Spam in Motion" and "JOC in the box"!
I hope to see a lot of the teams again in Atlanta. Thanks for a great time, and good luck to all.

Congratulations to teams 86, 1612, 1251. You guys rocked. Team 86's rolly-polly robot was the best, it had a great design.

Congrats to 1902 for their Chairman's Award win. You really deserve it.

Also big thanks to 343 and 1902 for being the best allies we could ask for. Team Exploding Spam in Motion was amazing. Hope to see everyone in Atlanta.

Re: 2010 FLORIDA REGIONAL

I had tons of fun this weekend!!! I had no idea that there were volunteers that were sick and missing. Everything ran so smoothly!
Thanks to 180 and 1902 for being awesome partners!! And congrats to 1902 for winning the Chairman's!!! Congrats to 86, 1251, and 1612 for winning!!

I also like seeing teams that have awesome attitudes even when they don't get picked for eliminations. There were lots, but I really noticed 233...they do sort of stand out! We had the pleasure of being next to them all weekend in the pits and I ended up sitting right behind them after we were eliminated. They were fun to watch and extremely polite. They were always very gracious in congratulating all the winners! But they did sort of scare my 7 year old son! He refused to have his picture taken with one of you guys!! I look forward to seeing you guys in Atlanta!! Maybe I can get Joshua to pose for a picture then!

Re: 2010 FLORIDA REGIONAL

Oh wow, definitely the most fun Florida regional I have ever attended.

(Even though I'm putting this first, this is the last thing I felt I just had to add): Thanks to EVERYBODY that came by to compliment our robot or cheered us on when we rolled over a bump and the judges for awarding us the Engineering Excellence Award (sponsored by Delphi xD) for our robot's roll carriage. It just made our entire team SO HAPPY (you know that warm fuzzy feeling inside?) that people liked our robot and its design so much. Honestly, you guys can't even imagine how awesome you made us feel and we are SO glad that people enjoyed watching our robot run.

NOW: Thanks to all the volunteers, judges, mentors, parents, ANY adult involved with FIRST. You guys make it all possible and nobody can thank you enough.

Congrats to Team 1902 Exploding Bacon on their Chairman's award!

Thanks to teams 1612 and 1251 for being AMAZING alliance partners, you were awesome guys.
1612: Oh my goodness! I found a button from last year from you guys with my picture on it. Too cool!
1251: I absolutely loved working with you guys again. In my freshmen year (Overdrive), our robot's claw broke and you guys and 233 gave us the privilege of working with you two to winning the Florida regional then. I knew that you guys could play stellar defense and had a good amount of ball control (the fact you guys could hang was unknown but a pleasant bonus xD) so it was an honor to be able to choose you guys and work and win with you again.

Thanks for rolling with us guys!

Some other shout-outs:

Team 79: You guys had some trouble with comm issues and your lift breaking (which was really unfortunate!), but WOW when you guys were working you were WORKING. Amazing ball control and in one of the elimination matches I saw you guys start your lifting mechanism at (I think) 7 seconds left and make it up to the top before the match ended. WOW

Team 103: When we played together in a qualifying match, you guys were AWESOME. One of the most fun matches I was at all day! You guys were skying balls across the field (and sometimes over the driver station!), so epic! Even after that, you all appeared to have gotten the power needed to kick the balls down to what it needed to be and were scoring from everywhere on the field, great job.

Team 118: AMAZING DEFENSE. Wow if you guys weren't the most annoying bot (in a good way!) to play. Had to get both us and 1612 to even have a chance of scoring on you guys!

Team 179: First off, congrats on the #1 seed as well as the co-opertition award! You guys excelled in all aspects of the game, from scoring any place on the field to hanging at the end. Way to go guys!

Team 945: Just love your team in general, you guys were SO NICE! One of the best midfield bots I saw AND an impressive hanging device!

Team 1065: I did not talk with your team a whole lot during the competition, but you were definitely one of the top short range bots.

Team 1592: I LOVED YOUR AUTONOMOUS. Seeing you pound in 3 points from the far side of the field was SWEETTTT.

Team 2383: NINJINEERS, YOU GUYS WERE SO COOL! Epic team name AND I got to hug a ninja, YES!

There are a TON of teams I didn't talk about that were no less amazing than any team I listed. Just thanks to every team that was there for making this Florida Regional the best EVER (in my opinion xD)

Sorry for huge amount of text and look out for us green people in Atlanta (FREE HUGS AT THE PARTY SATURDAY NIGHT!)

Re: 2010 FLORIDA REGIONAL

This will be one of my most memorable regionals, Florida really knows how compete, have fun and be patient when things don't go as planned. I'm excited for the years to come. Congrats to the many decorated teams this weekend, there were a lot of deserving teams it must have been a nightmare for the judges.

This was also one of the most intensely competitive regionals I've seen to date, I can't remember so many ties! I'm looking forward to see how the teams that competed at Florida fair on the world stage, at Atlanta and other regionals. Last time the regional was this competitive we put 5 robots on Einstien ( 07 ).

I'm also looking forward to hanging out with the Krunchers in NC. Who knows, maybe we'll have a delicious breakfast combo for an alliance.

Florida FIRST Rocks, that's for sure.

Congrats to all other teams, competition was fun, yet challenging. There were some very interesting designs and strategies out there. Everyone did amazing! So thank you everyone, including volunteers.

We were "dead in the water" our last two matches Saturday because of a damaged power wire to the radio. That is the main reason we weren't picked, along with our having problems with "ball off the ground" penalties.
