Update 16 doesn't do anything but stop gentlemen agreements to play to a tie or 6v0. It doesn't stop hostile 6v0's. as i said in the update thread. if i was coaching and we had no chance to win, i would gladly play 6v0. it would STILL net my alliance the most possible points. Likewise, if i was in a sure win situation, I would start scoring for my opponent knowing every point i score for them is STILL two seeding points for me.

This is all very true, though our team's way of doing things conforms to the seeding system anyway. We keep the matches close because we know the ranking points could decide who is in the finals.

Though our driver is a nutcase he won't stop to kill the opposing alliance if he get's the chance he might even the score out a little who knows >.<

but, this update still helps. b/c there were some teams that did not want to concede immidiatly. this update can help those teams out a lot, b/c it gives an incentive to win.

I came away from update #16 with somethng like: "OK, the GDC wants us to keep it close, but duke it out for a win." I can live with that.

I offer the analogy of an industry consortium working together to fund upgrades to the technology base (high scores), then letting the individual companies fight it out for top sales of new products (the win).

Has Update 16 changed my position from yesterday?

Not much, really.

I like the rule change for robots not passing inspection. That should become the norm.

I like the change to the 3-inch incursion rule.

The extra 5 points for a win, is a little motivation to play to win. However, if it looks like a one-sided matchup, I will still consider 6v0.

One thing I think you will see, and this is just my personal opinion, is more defense in qualifying. By keeping the scores low and close, an upset is more likely and the incentive for the underdog is much greater now.

However, I still caution everyone that the chance of polarization is still very high. Please, be tolerant of others and do not begrudge them their opinions.

Now, let's get back to the reason for this thread.

Who is ready for the regional?

I wish we could make it up for the team social tonight, but the schedule doesn't alow that.

See you all in the arena. Let's have some fun.

This is not official but according to Bill's Blog and most of the regionals so far they will attempt to play 10 matches. Being that Florida is smaller than some of the regionals that pulled off 10 this weekend, I think it will happen.
