Re: 2010 Boilermaker regional
Thanks to all of the teams that attended the Boilermaker Regional from all of Purdue FIRST.
All teams were gracious and made everything from concessions to queuing a smooth experience. Even if my presence to the pits were consistent and probably not very desirable knowing I'd be nagging teams to get to the field, every team was completely considerate and respectful even under high pressure. (which is a great thing for everyone!) Thanks to all the volunteers, tech, media staff, etc who helped run the event. We never were super delayed in comparison to the match schedule. Having new regional winners by 3:40pm is definitely a feat! Congrats team 868, 45, and 2171 on the regional win, and to 234 for chairmans! Til next year! |
Re: 2010 Boilermaker regional
I'll be the first to admit, I don't have a lot of experience coaching against some of the great veteran teams at BMR. There's a lot more to be learned from the Baker, Fultz, Reel of 45, 234 and 292. Makes me wonder why if you can't beat them, you should probably join them...
I think my most amazing take away was in the Quarters 1-1 when 292 was defending and knocked us over. It was the first time we had ever seen our bot tip like that, we didn't know that was possible... but 292 pushed us over to right us back up. I was clearly shocked and just wanted to say thanks 292 for showing some of the most gracious GP I have ever experienced at a FIRST Event. Unfortunately, 292 took a penalty for this act of kindness because it was before the 10 second "self-righting" rule. I wished they hadn't done that, which even made it MORE GP than words can ever describe. 292's coach Joe Reel even won Woodie Flowers this weekend, and that's just an amazing reason why 292 clearly goes down in history as our most memorable moment EVER. |
Re: 2010 Boilermaker regional
just wanna say thanks to 1501 for the opportunity to be part of the number 1 alliance and thanks to 1747 for being a great alliance partner. you guys don't know how much we wanted to take it all the way. thanks to every team at BMR this year for bringing out the best in us and congrats to 45, 868 and 2171 u guys were awesome!

Re: 2010 Boilermaker regional
Thanks to 1747 HBR and 1018 Robodevils for making an awesome alliance...
This was an amazing regional and I had alot of fun. I'd also like to thank the rest of my team 1501 for making the regional work like clockwork, everything was pretty awesome. It was amazing to play with teams like 45, 234, and 829. Chris Fultz, Andy Baker, and Scott Miller are all amazing guys. I also have a new found respect for team 292, righting our robot in Quarters was an amazing thing you guys did. Unfortunately you recieved a penalty, but you guys really understand the meaning of FIRST. Its not about winning, it was truly the best example of Gracious Proffesionalism I had ever seen in FIRST. You were the best opponent We could have asked for. PLD robotics had an amazing defense. It was heartbreaking to see our robot flip like that, we didnt even know it was possible... the things 16.5" tall! Chris Elston, is an amazing person... My mentor, drive coach, and friend... I couldnt think of a better person to receive the volunteer of the year award. He really deserved it. |
Re: 2010 Boilermaker regional
To second what was already said by Chris and Samir: Thanks a TON to 1018 and 1747 for working with us, it was a great alliance! Thanks to our drive team for performing the way they did, it was very impressive from the stands! And Congratulations to 45, 868 and 2171, you played awesome in the finals.
I'd also like to extend my gratitude to team 292. Up in the stands we were very surprised (and thankful!) when you guys righted us, and we were all a little heartbroken that you received penalty for it. It was easily the most GP move I've seen in the 3 years I've been in FIRST. Character like that will get you farther than a robot ever will. Congrats to Joe Reel for winning Woodie Flowers, I've never had a chance to work with you directly, but I've worked around you a lot, and I was very glad to see you win. Just looking at the amount of awesomeness on the stage during the Woodie Flowers Award was enough to send inspiration shivers down my spine. Everyone up there is a definite inspiration to all of us at BMR. Last but not least, Chris, you are a fantastic person, an an amazing mentor, and an awesome person to represent IN FIRST.... you more than deserved that award! |
Re: 2010 Boilermaker regional
I feel as though I am being redundant with all that's already been said.
292, you guys are truly amazing and showed true sportsmanship this weekend. I was personally astonished when you flipped us back up. I personally wanted to say thank you. FIRST should be proud for having a team like you, I know I am. I want to say thanks to all of the teams that went to BMR for the amazing games that were played this week. A personal thanks to HBR and Pike Robo Devils for an amazing, tight alliance. Lenny, you are amazing. When we lost the first match of the quarterfinals, he went up to our teams in the stands and got them all pumped. "Still two more rounds!" he shouted. You got spirit man. Congrats to 234 winning the Chairman's!! A well earned award to an incredible team! And I am extremely proud of our amazing drive team. This was the first year on the team for our operator, Jacob, and he did an amazing job, just as Samir, our driver, who took the beatings and drove with a smile, and our amazing human player, Sam. Chris E., an amazing coach, an amazing mentor, and an amazing person. The description they gave him before the award was long and fitting. Chris has been a dedicated and great mentor. We had an amazing year because of his leadership and his encouragement. Congrats Chris!! |
Re: 2010 Boilermaker regional
I'd also like to thank Red Alert for the "Dynamite Driver Award"
...that really means alot, I took that one kind of personally (in a good way!) It took alot of drive practice and effort from alot of people to run that bot like we did also, thanks to 2081 Icarus for the best teammate award! You guys have an amazing lifter, and congrats on making it to the finals. We really do like your team, your bot, your drive team, and you guys were all around awesome. |

Re: 2010 Boilermaker regional
On behalf of 1747, thank you, 1018 and 1501. We were so excited to make it into the eliminations and to be picked by two amazing offensive robots and the number one seed. We weren't really sure how well we were going to do after Thursday and Friday, but some how, we impressed you guys enough during Saturday to make it. We can't thank you enough for allowing us to play some defense for you in the eliminations.
Thanks Lenny and Chris, it was an honor to coach with you two out on the field during the eliminations, my first as a new coach. Congratulations to 45, 868, and 2171, way to represent Indiana FIRST. Congratulations as well to 461 (Let's All Go Nuts?) on another Engineering Inspiration and to 234 on Chairman's. |
Re: 2010 Boilermaker regional
Thank you Teams 45 and 868 !!
Wow, what an experience !! We’d like to thank teams 45 and 868 for giving us the opportunity to be part of the winning alliance. As 2171’s driver coach, a huge thank-you goes out to the coaches and drive teams of 45 and 868 for all their encouragement, assistance, and patience. We are hopeful that we can make it to Atlanta, and if so we look forward to seeing all the friendly, helpful, and gracious professionals we met at the Boilermaker Regional. Thank-you again everyone! Team 2171 simply must acknowledge and thank Alan Anderson for his tireless efforts helping us with programming at the Boilermaker Regional. Alan turned our issues into an opportunity to share his expertise while demonstrating the best qualities of FIRST’s spirit of gracious professionalism. Thank-you Alan !!

Re: 2010 Boilermaker regional
Thank-you and congradulations to team 234.
We would also like to thank team 234’s drive team for getting us started on the right foot. We were allied with them on our first match and they provided valuable pointers and encouragement. It was certainly no surprise to us that they won the Regional Chairman’s award. Congratulations Team 234! Keith Hall Mentor, Team 2171 The RoboDogs Crown Point IN |

This was my first time as an official volunteer, as opposed to "just" being a helpful mentor from a friendly team. I'm happy about how much I was able to help everyone out. The regional win for 45/868/2171 is just gravy. |
