[OCCRA]: OCCRA Update #7 from Teri Kroll

Good Morning Everyone -

Are you ready for the Diversity Showcase Tournament at Royal Oak High School on Saturday? I hope you have been busy putting a team together for the adult matches. These matches are always fun. I have had a couple of teams let me know that they won't be able to compete and also a few that will only be competing in the adult and male driver portion of the event. If you know you won't be able to attend the tournament or will only be competing in one portion of it, please let me know ASAP. This helps us with getting the event set up, matches, food preparation, etc. You can email me or call me on my cell phone -- 248.346.7094.

Scoring Update:
  • Scoring for the Diversity Tournament will be the best four matches a team has for the day. With some teams not participating in the female portion of the tournament, this allows them to still qualify to win awards at the tournament. Remember – each team will have three all-female matches, one adult match and three all-male matches.
Foundation Award Submission:
Hopefully you have been documenting all the exciting things your team is doing. Your submissions are due to Marsha Voncina at the Diversity Tournament this Saturday. Criteria for submission (taken from OCCRA Awards sheet):
  • Teams trying to win the Foundation Award will also present a three-page submission to Marsha Voncina by November 7, 2009 (before the end of the Diversity Tournament.) In this submission, teams shall “state their case” for being awarded the Foundation Award. The font should be Arial – 11 or larger. The three-page limit includes all pictures, newspaper articles, etc. that the team wishes the judges to consider while making their decision. A panel of five judges will review these submissions and award points using the same criteria and the same scale as used at the tournaments. This panel will be comprised of people who have not judged any of the tournaments. Points awarded from the submission and all five tournaments will then be totaled to decide the Foundation Award winner.
VEX Update:
  • Watch for a very important email coming out later today or early tomorrow morning regarding VEXNet.
Saturday's Event:
  • Teams can drop off their robots the same place they did last year. It is the entrance off of Crooks Road. Watch for the signs.
  • Royal Oak will have a concession stand to purchase food at the event.

Tentative Saturday logistics:
  • Set-up crew teams should arrive at 7:00 a.m. Inspection will begin at 8:00 a.m.
  • Drivers Meeting at 9:00 a.m.
  • Welcome and National Anthem at 9:15 a.m.
  • All-Female Matches Begin at 9:30 a.m.
  • Adult Matches at 11:00 a.m.
  • Lunch at 11:40 a.m.
  • All-Male Matches Begin at 12:15 p.m.
  • Awards Ceremony starts at 1:45 p.m.
  • Tear Down and Trailer Loading at 2:15 p.m.
  • Hopefully everything will run smoothly and we can all be on our way home by 3:00 p.m.
Have a great afternoon.

Terri
