As a former recipient of the Kettering Scholarship I have one piece of advice, apply for EVERY scholarship you can. This means, start looking your Sophomore year, there are some scholarships that are for juniors only and it stinks to miss out on scholarships because you are missed the deadline. Ask for letters of recommendation from those mentors/teachers who know you well. Explain what the scholarship is about and ask them to write to that. Apply to everything you can, worst case, you don't win it. You really don't have anything to lose.
