Maybe the fact that it is a 3D rendering is hinting that there are going to be more three-dimensional elements to the field surface, like ramps or uneven terrain.

I think it's a release for the giant rubber bands that are replacing the motors this year.

now the real question is, would they be stable. I think they look a little unstable for a robot to be climbing on.

I've been wondering, what if it's a vertical column, in which teams can clime it like a space elevator for extra points (at the end of the game)?

If the lip's made of quarter inch lexan that can take a 125 pound force with a safety factor of 2, I think it would be plenty stable.

This part looks upside down to me.

But if a robot is driving and runs in to it with more than 125 pounds of force there would be broken lexan all over the feild and replacing it every few rounds would be annoying...

Lexan cracks, it doesn't shatter like glass.

Perhaps it is above driving level?

That could be plausible, and they have to be pushed up to a certain height with something on them? And the glass around the field last year was 1/4'' lexan, and it held up fairly well. I couldn't imagine why it wouldn't hold this year, excluding the change in friction. The lexan took a beating this year with all the crashing and pushing. Assuming a high or regular friction this year, would the lexan really take that much more abuse?

Re: [BB] 2010 Game Hint #1

ive been staring at this thing ever since it came out and i think the key part is the lexan. why would they use lexan instead of aluminum or steel plates? im guessing (because of the holes in the lexan) that something will be mounted to it. And if it was a piece thats going to be directly interacted with by the robots, lexan probably wouldnt have been used because of the possibility of it cracking. so, my guess is that whatever is mounted to it will be something that needs to bee seen from all sides (hence the clear lexan)...something along the lines of a traking light or a becon of somekind.

I keep seeing it as a part of some type of a boom.

But the thing is, would FRC really recycle messing with elevation? I mean, as awesome as it was for robots lifting themselves up, it's been done. Unless the theme is to get a piece of every past competition :ahh:

Re: [BB] 2010 Game Hint #1

I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed or commented on this (I didn't feel like reading the entire feed) but has anyone else noticed that there seems to be a second sort of shadow which doesn't belong to the part? It's more visible when the picture has been inverted... around the middle (see thumbnail).
There's another thread on CD about Dave's "hint" that nothing is as what it seems to be... what if this is referring to the hint? Maybe we're meant to look at what is not as visible as the part itself. I could even be that the part is just a means of distracting us from this other thing, or discoloration in the picture.
If this shadow/thing is what we're meant to be looking at, what could it be? I have thought possibly a ramp, or some sort of terrain to add to the field.
Just food for thought :)

Rob.

The elevation concept from 2004 is itself recycled... from 2000.
