Re: 2010 Colorado Regional
This will be team 1540's (the Flaming Chickens) first year coming to Colorado. We are looking forward to it as well as the prospect of a smaller regional than our home one in Portland, OR (61 teams vs 42). More info on team 1540 can be found at www.team1540.org

Re: 2010 Colorado Regional
Team 399 loved the Regional and are coming back!!!!
|
Re: 2010 Colorado Regional
team 1332 will be there:)
|
Re: 2010 Colorado Regional
2996 will be there too
|
Re: 2010 Colorado Regional
1592 is glad to be coming back!
|
Re: 2010 Colorado Regional
Team 1777 from the Kansas City area will not be able to attend this year. We have been to the Colorado Regional twice in five years, but this year we have a leaner, meaner team and not able to fundraise the travel expenses.
We thought the Denver regional was very well organized and always had a good range of veterans and rookies with usually a smaller field of teams (mid to high 40's). We are staying close to home and will be able to be at home each night. Good luck to the teams going to Denver, wish we could be there with you. |

Re: 2010 Colorado Regional
As of now there is no webcast or as far as i know anyone planing to archive video for this regional... Are any of you guys that are coming planing to archive any video?
|
Re: 2010 Colorado Regional
3198 "Robotomy" from Granby is attending. It's our rookie year and I'm really excited! :D I was quite disappointed when we couldn't make the practice at CSM.
I do prey we don't get snowed out as we really need the time to work thanks to a last minute disaster... :/ Anyway, see you there. |
Re: 2010 Colorado Regional
1245 - Shazbots will be there
|
Re: 2010 Colorado Regional
Team 159 (Alpine Robotics) will be attending
|
Re: 2010 Colorado Regional
I'm working on getting archiving set up. I just need to make sure I can get an RCA hook up to the field and then things will be good.
Oh, and that the current round of snow does not mess up the video capture system that is on its way from the Silicon Valley Regional. |

Re: 2010 Colorado Regional
and we won't be snowed out this year. really.

Re: 2010 Colorado Regional
We drove our van into our work area to load just as the sky fell this afternoon. Thunder, lightening, 1/2 inch hail and then heavy snow all in less than an hour. It must be time for the Denver regional. We're looking forward to seeing everybody thursday.

Re: 2010 Colorado Regional
The Killer Bees will be at the Troy District in Michigan this weekend...BUT, our little brother and favorite rookie team (even though we've never met in person), Team 3333, The Cougars, will be there!!
Please keep an eye on them, help them out whenever they need it and pass on our good lucks to them!!! |
Re: 2010 Colorado Regional
is there going to be a webcast of this event this weekend?
|
Re: 2010 Colorado Regional

|
Re: 2010 Colorado Regional

Re: 2010 Colorado Regional
Does the venue have internet? There are no matches or awards posted on the FIRST site, does anyone have that information?
|
Re: 2010 Colorado Regional
sadly there is no internet at the venue
|
Re: 2010 Colorado Regional
updating on archiving, I've got all of today (with some awkward cuts in the files, but all of the actual game time is covered. I thought they were stalling for time, but it turns out they were waiting to announce final scores so some of the calls were cut. ).
As long as things go well all of Saturday should also be archived. Then comes the work of splitting/editing the files and getting them to Greg. And the video folks confirmed that there will not be streaming. It was too expensive. |
Re: 2010 Colorado Regional
Does anyone have the awards from day 2?
|
Re: 2010 Colorado Regional
Woo... a heck of a time that was. Great fun though! :D
Many congrats to our hotel neighbours 1584 on the championship, as well as 1158! Also many many thanks to the many teams who supported and encouraged us in our rookie year at the competition, especially to our good friends and county-mates 1789. Finally, of course a thank you to our mentors Mr Trombley and Mr Coleman, and to our wonderful sponsors. We may have finished 41st out of... err... 41 teams, but we put in a tremendous effort and persevered through immense challenge and sheer bad luck. Forty-first place? No, forty-FIRST™ place! |
Re: 2010 Colorado Regional
Does someone have a list of standings/awards/alliance pickings? usfirst.org hasn't updated it.

If that stuff is still on the field computer, could the next event make arrangements to put it up on the FIRST site? |
Re: 2010 Colorado Regional
I'd like to thank 1592 and 399 for giving us a chance to be on your guy's alliance. It was a pleasure to work your drive teams(I was the coach during the elimination rounds). The semifinals realy ended up showing that a good alliance is made up of 3 robots, not just 2 excellent ones.
as far as the alliance selection went, I know some of it... 1. 1592 399 1977 SF 2. 1158 1619 ???? F 3. ???? ???? ???? 4. 1540 2036 1584 W 5. ???? ???? ???? 6. ???? ???? ???? 7. ???? ???? ???? 8. ???? ???? ???? Where ???? are teams that I don't quite remember I remember that the alliance that had 1584 were the champions. Seed: 1. 1592 2. 1158 3. 3403 4. 1540 5. 399 6. 1619 7. 1583 8. 662 9. 1361 10. 3333 11. 1157 12. 2240 13. 2036 14. 1691 15. 159 16. 1348 17. 2275 18. 2859 19. 1245 20. 1357 21. 1584 22. 1410 23. 1817 24. 3200 25. 2261 26. 2083 27. 1799 28. 443 29. 2259 30. 1377 31. 1339 32. 2996 33. 2945 34. 2711 35. 1789 36. 2250 37. 1977 38. 1303 39. 2972 40. 1332 41. 3198 |
Re: 2010 Colorado Regional
@bobwrit
the #4 and winning alliance was 1540 (Captain), 1584 and 2036 |

Alliance #2 was 1158 1619 2083 but 2240 joined them as a backup team replacing 2083 |
Re: 2010 Colorado Regional
While he's at it...
I deduce, from the standings and the picked teams listed, that captain #3 was 3403. And, this might make it more fun... bobwrit, can you remember the first alliance you guys eliminated? Remember that, and I can tell you where it goes. Current board: 1. 1592 399 1977 SF 2. 1158 1619 2083 2240 F 3. 3403 ???? ???? 4. 1540 2036 1584 W 5. 1583 622 159 QF 6. ???? ???? ???? 7. ???? 1332 2945 QF [If they faced the finalist, they lost in quarters...] 8. ???? ???? ???? Bracket: 1 over 8 4 over 5 2 over 7 ? over ? 4 over 1 2 over ? 4 over 2 |
Re: 2010 Colorado Regional
Seed #5 was 1583 alliance captain with 662 & 159 and we lost to seed #4 in quarter finals
|
Re: 2010 Colorado Regional
1332, 2945 (whose battery fell out during the elims), and someone else were on an alliance.

Re: 2010 Colorado Regional
Thanks 399 and 1977. We made a heck of an alliance and I can honestly that it was a pleasure playing with you guys. We each had our own strengths and that in fact is what made us so powerful. We would not have made it as far as we did without you.
399- awesome ball deflector and a great kicker to boot. Ball control was your game and you most certainly did it well. Hope we make it off the wait list and see you at nats. Good luck and congrats on charmans! 1977- you set some amazing picks and often became our main scorer when we had heavy defence being played on us. 1540 2036 1584- congratulations. Your alliance had it all. From defence to clearing to fast stricker style scoring. You were the alliance I feared the most. I just wish our alliance could have played yours at 100 percent :p but that's life :). Good luck at Nat. And hope we make it off the wait list and see you guys there. Hopefully its one our side of the glass this time though. Lol. |

Re: 2010 Colorado Regional
Congrats to all the teams competing in the Colorado 2010 regional! What an incredible experience. I saw many examples of gracious professionalism throughout, but I'm so glad team 1245 (Monarch) won the gracious professionalism award this year.
For those who don't know the backstory, winning team 2036 (Fairview Black Knights) nearly couldn't build a bot this season after losing the use of their workshop and sponsors. David Clark at Monarch High graciously offered to share their facilities with the Knights. Going farther back to 2005, my team 1584 (Nederland Pirates, also in the winning alliance) wouldn't have even started a robotics program if not for David's incredible assistance. Flash forward to the quarter finals this year, when team 1584's driver console battery just up & died for no reason... there was team 1245 again, loaning us a fully charged battery so our PirateBot could continue in the competition. Monarch rules! And they even found time to build a great bot this year too. As for teams 1592, 399, and 1977... yes, absolutely, next time let's meet on the same side of the glass. You guys were awesome, as were the # 2 alliance and so many others. You gave us everything we could handle... and it's too bad all three matches were affected by fluke circumstances (the stuck ball under our PirateBot in the first match, and 1977's mechanical problems the next two matches. T'would have been great playing three matches with both teams at full strength... what a shootout that would have been! 1977 (Loveland) - a word of advice - try to use this setback to your advantage next year. Two years ago, our PirateBot stalled on the field repeatedly because we kept tripping fuses - we didn't use the right gauge of wiring to our motors (bad Pirates, arrrrgh). We went through a lot of soul searching after that and worked hard over the summer, training our students in Autocad, electrical, programming, omnidrive, etc... and they built a very nice bot last year (4th place). Then disaster struck again - we had high hopes for doing well in the tourney but a gearhead seized up in the first match, knocking us out completely. We didn't even make it on the field the second match. In fact, prior to this year, we were 0-5 in tournament action because we were either paired right away against the PinkTeam and Robonauts (233, 118, yikes) or we suffered some sort of catastrophic robot meltdown at the Worst Possible Time. These things do happen... use the experience to drive your team's efforts to new heights next year. 1540 and 2036, our loyal alliance partners... you guys rule too. Couldn't ask for better teammates. Good luck with your fundraising... see you in Atlanta!!! |
End of season thanks
A HUGE thanks goes out to Dawn Lutz, she is AMAZING. I can't believe how much she does with positivity and isn't she a volunteer? She hooked us up with Catherine Jones and JCPenney, who has been the best, most involved sponsor we have ever had! Big thanks to Boeing. Also once again the Graingers saved us hundreds by putting us up in their house and cooking us food. Without all this monetary support this season would not have happened!!
Additional thanks goes out to 2945 BANG for helping us troubleshoot multiple problems both last year and this year. In particular, we want to give a shout out to the sophomore programmer, Zeb(?). Also, a huge thanks for performing as we knew they could as an alliance teammate. Additional thanks goes out to Coronado 2996 for showing fantastic GP, especially for a 2nd year team. They hosted a great fact sharing session after their first regional, and also showed some extreme GP during the quarterfinals allowing us a timeout to try and fix our issues even though we were both battling for the semifinals. In particular we want to give a shout out to their team captian (?) and their mentor, Bryce. Additional thanks goes out to 1332 SWIFT for offering us a wireless bridge (which is more than I can say for some teams who had extras at competition but didn’t want to part with them), and performing well as alliance teammates. Our arm design, which we scrapped during thursday due to most the day being spent on STUPID BUMPERS!! would have saved a solid day during design if we had used their idea of climbing on the bump and taking advantage of the shorter depth of the tower. nice work! Also, a big thanks to the team that removed their chain tensioner to give to us for the elimination round. unfortunately, I LOST the info of the team number and where to send replacements, so to whomever this was, please email me so I can send you them!!! If anyone else can help me remember, they were the west side of the middle pit row closest to the inspection area (weight and dimension checks)... |
