Error installing from KOP DVD's
Got an error at the meeting while ago during the Laview portion of the software installation from the DVD's in the KOP on a laptop (not the classmate). The error was "Fatal Error. Failed to open handle for E:\Distributions\Labview8.6.1\Labview861\Bin\merge dbgin." I was planning on installing from the DVD's and then applying the updates. Is that the right way to do it?
This laptop still has Labview and Windriver installed from last year and I was installing over it. Should I uninstall it first? Should I copy the DVD to the hard drive and install from that? Thanks, Brian |
Re: Error installing from KOP DVD's
Labview is truly heinous when it comes to the amount of tentacles they put into your system. On the other hand that's also a strong point - the integration allows them to use and detect almost any hardware you connect.
Anyway - uninstall the old labview first. It contains many services that run on your computer startup, and I'm not sure how "well" labview goes in and turns off all that stuff before installing the new version. We always make a point of uninstalling the old version first. We also included that direction in all our beta presentations, and we haven't had an issue yet. If you continue to have the issue, you might want to copy the cd image to your desktop and mount it using something like poweriso. |

Thanks, I copied the CD images to the hard disk and that worked.

Re: Error installing from KOP DVD's
Good to know. I'm glad it worked out. We had to copy the image to a number of computers - for some reason they just do not like install from the dvd. Likewise, in our attempts to install across our 100/10 network, it failed 9 times out of 10.

Re: Error installing from KOP DVD's
That is really odd. I haven't installed a LV from a DVD in like six years, and I probably have ten versions on my current computer. I can't say that I love the installers, but we seem to get along.
