Re: The Official Metalheads Thread

I recently revisited some of the older bands, and I enjoyed it a lot. Mostly classic stuff like Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden. This classic metal binge was brought upon by listening to Dio, which then spread out into Judas Priest. Suffice to say, I haven't listened to anything recent until just a short while ago, which was Sabaton, which I'm actually enjoying quite a bit at the moment.

I'm not sure I like all the new screamy stuff, but definitely love classic stuff (even if it's still going, IT'S CLASSIC) like Maiden, Sabbath, Metallica, etc. I have to say, Britain is short on good classic metal bands. Dx

Are you kidding me?
Black Sabbath
Iron Maiden
Motorhead
Judas Priest
Angel Witch
Blitzkrieg
Venom
Witchfinder General
Saxon
Diamond Head
Samson
Tank
And oh so so so many other NWOBHM bands.

Britain is loaded with "classic" heavy metal.

If you're a fan of Evile, or thrash metal in general, check out my interview with Matt Drake (of Evile) tomorrow on WKDU at 5PM (Eastern). Hear his thoughts about "retro thrash," Evile's first US tour, touring with thrash legends like Megadeth, Kreator, Overkill, and Exodus, and more.

Everyone who matters.

I'm particularly excited about Gorguts, Eyehategod, Portal, Magrudergrind, DRI, Pentagram, Converge, Krallice, Repulsion, Autopsy, DRI, N2002, Coffins, Jucifer, Howl, and Entombed. Not to mention Ex Dementia, Nekromantheon, Swarm of the Lotus, and PLF at the pre-fest.

And people come from all over the world for MDF, no excuses! ;)

Recently discovered British band Sylosis. Loving the old school thrash sound. Anyone else into these guys?

Unfortunately I've only heard of a handful of those bands, any favorites you'd recommend?

And I long for the day when I'm able to travel to big festivals... Maybe after high school's over in another few weeks... And I find a steady stream of disposable income :yikes:

Depends on what your tastes are. The bands I'm excited about specifically are all pretty great, but plenty of other bands are good, as well.

If you're into thrash, check out D.R.I. and Deceased...
If you're into traditional doom metal, check out Pentagram.
If you dig Grindcore, check out Repulsion, Magrudergrind, and PLF.
If you like dissonant metalcore, go with Converge and Trap Them.
If you want oldschool Swedish death metal, Entombed is legendary, but I actually like Nirvana2002 more.
If you're into death/doom, check out Coffins and Autopsy.
If you like sludge, try out some Eyehategod, Swarm of the Lotus, and Howl.
If you just want something dark and twisted, listen to Portal and Gorguts.
If you want something punkier, try out Capatalist Casualties, Wolfbrigade, and early D.R.I.
If you want something with a middle eastern tinge, give Melechesh a shot.
If you want some unique black metal, listen to Krallice.

Thanks a lot, I'll have to check some out.

I've crossed over to more traditional metal from the hardcore/metalcore genres, I'm still mostly a -core listener but at the same time I mostly enjoy bands of the more progressive variety like Opeth, Devin Townsend, and Cynic, but I'm always open for suggestions.

The world is going to miss you, Dio. :(

Probably going to do 2 hours of Elf/Rainbow/Sabbath/Dio tomorrow on my show in his memory.

Re: The Official Metalheads Thread

Some people on my team got me into metal and metal-like stuff (*Cough Josh Fox and Patrick Riggs cough*) last season, and I've been listning to this band called Cloudkicker, primarily because I'm not a big fan of metal vocals. (No, they don't have a singer, as far as I can tell)

Here's the URL if you guys want it... http://cloudkicker.bandcamp.com/
They have 4 albums, and they're all pretty good. I'm liking Avalanche (from The Discovery) a lot.

EDIT: Oops, I bumped this thread from May... Sorry about that.

As, pretty much, the only one who posts in this thread, I don't object to it being necroed.

As for instrumental metal, I know I listen to a handful of bands that fall into that realm. But I can't really think of any true metal ones off of the top of my head, only bands that border on metal.

Russian Circles is an instrumental post-rock/post-metal band.
Judgement Day is an avant-garde "cello metal" (not like Apoctalyptica) band.
Earthless is an instrumental psychedelic rock band with hints of stoner metal.
