Tunnel Blockers???

Hey to all of my fellow science nerds.

I was wondering if anyone was thinking about trying to block the tunnels. We are wondering about it because we have decided to go under the tunnel. If someone were to block the tunnel then our ability to move between the zones of the 2010 playing field would be gone. Tell us if we have to worry about this and even if the rules allow the blocking of the tunnel.

Thanks,
Ian Heffron

People blocking the tunnel is a definate worry for teams designing to use the tunnels to travel between zones and should be taken into account when designing your robot.

The rules do not disallow blocking the tunnel. As a matter of fact, I would be surprised if most teams were not able to block the tunnel, and did not hesitate to do so against you, now that you have revealed a weakness of your robot.

An opponent could block one end of the tunnel and not let you go through. But opponents can't block both ends and trap you there: http://forums.usfirst.org/showthread.php?t=13910

[offtopic][humor attempt]But there wasn't a tunnel in the 2009 game, where that Q&A is posted. Therefore it doesn't count until it's crossposted or moved...[/humor attempt][/offtopic]

If one of the opponent's robot was blocking the tunnel, would our robot be able to push the other robot out of the way??

Jux fyi ur screwed if you try to go under and get stuck. So if you plan on going under have a lot of strengh. Also just so you know most teams do not plan on going under the brigde so you might be ok.

Hey people, I found out the answer to my question and that one guy eric is right all you have to do is read the manual. The rules are in chapter 7.3.5.1, sections <G37> - <G39>.:)

Re: Tunnel Blockers???

Teams with robots that utilize Holonomic Drive or other small, fast designs will have a lot of trouble with other teams blocking tunnels. A possible solution to this is not using these said designs and sticking with the simple tank drive. and even if you decide to use these you should stay in your own zone rather then move around as a strategy. Keep it simple.
