Restore Classmate

i just restored the classmate pc to its system default with the USB restore key.

before even connecting it to the network, i immediately applied the labview patch, and the driverstation update.

after restarting, i did not get the DLL error that people are talking about on the forums, and also did not see an updated dashboard that shows gyroscope information.

did my upgrade not take? should that interface have changed? i have it plugged into nothing, and connected to nothing.

The driver station upgrade apparently didn't succeed. Run it again, selecting the option to remove the software, then yet again to reinstall it.

The Dashboard install doesn't work, because the Updater sees that it already exists on the Classmate and just skips replacing it for some reason. This is why it's only an issue on the Classmate, not when installing it on your own PC.
You can actually just go to C:\\Program Files\FRC Dashboard and delete, rename, or move the files you find there and the installer will work fine.

ah, that did the trick.

i did check the add/remove programs list, but didn't see it there. i didn't even think to click on the programs IN the installer.

well, got it updated now! thanks for the help!

Re: Restore Classmate

The slightly long version of the story is that MSI installers OWN components that the install, and they ignore things they did not install. The Classmate image was built quite some time ago, even before the beta program began. Afterwards, the installer for the driver station was modified to include Cypress and other components. Unfortunately, this means that the state of the computer has a big impact on the success of the install, and the tests for validating the update were misinterpreted.

Anyway, if the files are not there, the installer words fine, but it doesn't feel that it has the right to overwrite files it did not install. This also explains why the add/remove doesn't include the files until the installer has run once.

Re: Restore Classmate

May i ask where to get the KOP USB restore drive? I purchased the unit back in 2008 but didn't recall getting the USB restore drive. Is there a way for me to download it somewhere? I would like to restore my classmate since I couldn't update. it is Linux version.
Thanks,
Tom

Welcome to the chiefdelphi forums. This is a forum related to the FIRST Robotics Competition. Participants were provided a 2go classmate PC, and the FIRST organization provided the restore key. Since you purchased your classmate directly, you should contact the manufacturer. The restore key that everyone is talking about installs FIRST specific software and drivers and would be of no use to you.

To create your own restore key, you would want to use something like UNetbootin.
