Spike to CIM Motor

Is there any reason why we could not attach a CIM motor to a spike? If we can, what should be the rating on the breaker on the power distribution panel?

Thanks in advanced!

<R55-A> is a pretty good reason.

A spike cannot be used on a CIM as shown in the rule Joe pointed but more importantly, the relay in the Spike can only handle 20 amps. The stall current of a CIM is 129 amps. Stall current is drawn everytime the motor starts or is held in place while power is applied. That amount of current will cause catastrophic damage to the Spike. Like wise the rule applies to other motors as well. The FP has a stall current rating more than three times the rated current of the Spike.

Something that seems new this year is, as best I we can determine, you are allowed to have multiple smaller motors on one speed controller per <R55>. For example you can gang up the two wimpy RS555 motors on one Jaguar. This seems different than previous years but maybe we've always been overly conservative.

Does anyone have a different interpretation?

I have a different rule instead. <R49> prohibits the scenario you suggest. Multiple solenoids on a single Spike is the only multiple load, single controller configuration allowed.

Ahh, right you are. Thanks for that.
