Re: How to get the camera to show images on the dashboard?
The "bottom half" is the Driver Station application. The "top half" is the actual Dashboard.
The Driver Station doesn't start the Dashboard application when a remote dashboard has been specified. Make sure you've selected the local dashboard on the configuration tab. If you aren't seeing camera images, it's possible you still haven't successfully updated the Driver Station software completely. The "new" and correct Dashboard has a compass indicator at the bottom of the right side of the window. There's an issue with the DS update that doesn't replace the original version of the Dashboard until you run it twice, first to uninstall the files and then to reinstall them. |
Re: How to get the camera to show images on the dashboard?
You can look at the creation date of Dashboard.exe too, to tell if it's old.
The current Dashboard will have a 2010 date (1/8/2010), while the older one will be from 2009 (9/22/2009). |
Re: How to get the camera to show images on the dashboard?
There is a link for the Driver Station Update (include Dashboard):
http://ftp.ni.com/support/labview/FI...1.0for2010.zip It will solve the problem. |

Here is the error which i get when i plug the camera in directl to the classmate.

Re: How to get the camera to show images on the dashboard?
We are having the same problem. I had previously installed the 2010 DS update (linked above), but for some reason our dashboard application was not actually updated (no gyro angle was on it).
I used the installer to remove the applications from the computer, then re-installed. Now we have the correct versions of the DS and the dashboard, but are still getting the error messages listed above. I;ll update if we figure it out. |
Re: How to get the camera to show images on the dashboard?
I just restarted everything and looks like it's working.
I'm still getting some of the error messages still but video is streaming and the target detection is working. Looks like the uninstall/re-install fixed it. Thanks for the help. |
Re: How to get the camera to show images on the dashboard?
If you've got your Dashboard all updated, then the next step is to make sure the camera is setup properly.
Hook the camera directly to the Classmate and use the "Setup Axis Camera" icon you'll find on the desktop. P.S. Good news! |
Re: How to get the camera to show images on the dashboard?
yes i have connected the camera directly to the classmate pc and configured correctly. I have done the Setup axis camera but still nothing!!! Cannot see anything in the dashboard still>! I can tell its configured correctly because i have went to 192.168.0.90 and got the live feed perfectly fine. But not on the dashboard ... please help Tnx

Re: How to get the camera to show images on the dashboard?
2 Attachment(s)
Does your Dashboard look like the picture on the left, or the one on the right?
|
Re: How to get the camera to show images on the dashboard?
Our dashboard looks like the one on the left. Is it suppose to look like the one on the right>?

Re: How to get the camera to show images on the dashboard?
Yes, that's probably the most common problem teams are running into.
The left one is from last September and doesn't work with the current camera feedback. The one you want is the one on the right. Two ways to get the correct one:

Re: How to get the camera to show images on the dashboard?
Thx for the information it worked, now we can see the image on the dashboard BUT we can't get the camera to track the target.

Re: How to get the camera to show images on the dashboard?
We have made the labview program to track the colors, but whenever we try to run it with the run button on top the deployment process starts and we get " Failed to connect to Real-Time Target" Error. WHAT IS GOING ON!! Tnx

It's possible that you haven't changed the target IP address in the example. In the Project Explorer window, what is in parentheses on the cRIO target line? If it's 10.0.0.2, you need to right-click it and choose Properties, enter the appropriate number in the IP Address / DNS Name field (e.g. 10.15.14.2), and click OK. If it's already 10.15.14.2, then you probably have something wrong with your network settings or wiring. |
Re: How to get the camera to show images on the dashboard?
My team's Axis camera decided to go on vacation so we are wondering for replacements. The Axis website shows that they have discontinued selling (or at least showing on their website) the Axis 206, which is the one issued for last years of Kit of Parts.::ouch:: I am looking at the Axis 207W which broadcasts its video on 802.11g. But apparently FRC states that you can't broadcast any other wireless frequency other than the that of the 5ghz coming from the linksys bridge.
Have any of you experimented with the 207W and if so, is it possible to have it broadcast through the bridge and not independently? http://www.axis.com/products/cam_207w/index.htm http://www.usfirst.org/uploadedFiles...Robot_RevG.pdf "<R58> One KOP wireless bridge (either model WGA600N or WET610N) is the only permitted mechanism for communicating to and from the ROBOT during the MATCH. The signal output from the wireless bridge must be directly connected to Port 1 of the cRIO-FRC with an Ethernet cable. All signals must originate from the OPERATOR CONSOLE and/or the Field Management System, and be transmitted to the ROBOT via the official ARENA hardware. No other form of wireless communications shall be used to communicate to, from or within the ROBOT (e.g. radio modems from previous FIRST competitions and Bluetooth devices are not permitted on the ROBOT during competition)." |
Re: How to get the camera to show images on the dashboard?
Hi from team 2135! I have a question pertaining to this and that is, is there any way to know that the driver's station is completely updated? We have gone through the process multiple times and are unsure whether it is completely updated.
Could this be why we can't get a camera image? Thank you! |

Re: How to get the camera to show images on the dashboard?
You can also check the Dashboard.exe file creation date in C:\Program Files\FRC Dashboard
The original Classmate installation had a date of 9/22/2009. The later one would be dated 2010. |

If it asks for the password, it is the 2010 game rules password.

Re: How to get the camera to show images on the dashboard?
Thank you for all the help- we figured out that our code was missing some crucial components that wasn't allowing us to obtain a camera image on the Dashboard.
I do have another question though- Our camera has quite a delay (about 1 second), does anyone know how to make this delay less or nonexistent? Thank you! |
Re: How to get the camera to show images on the dashboard?
We still cannot get our Dashboard to display live feed.
As per the instructions, the Classmate's IP address is configured to 10.32.60.x. I updated the Dashboard (has crosshair), updated Labview, and used the Setup Axis application. The camera is connected to the Classmate via the Crossing cable. I can access the camera using the Axis Utility where it automatically gives it an IP address, and lets me go into the Web Browser and view its feed. I also was able to set it up to have a username of FRC, password FRC. Going to the Axis Utility, it gives the camera an IP address within the Classmates IP subnet.. so it gives it something like 10.32.60.8. When I go into the Dashboard, it just doesn't show the live feed. I then tried to manually set the camera's IP address to 192.168.0.90. I restarted the Dashboard, and no feed. Can anyone please tell me what I'm doing wrong? Thanks in advance |
Re: How to get the camera to show images on the dashboard?
Do you have the camera connected to the cRIO port 2 or to the Classmate?
To speed things up Greg McKaskle had some thoughts. |

Re: How to get the camera to show images on the dashboard?
Thank you for the link- One more question- So when one is going to change the compression to 20% they use the set compression vi, but then where do you establish the 20%? When it is made the constant there is no change. HELP PLEASE!!
|
Re: How to get the camera to show images on the dashboard?
IF you set the compression in Begin, then you don't need to worry about what is stored on the camera. But I believe the question you asking is about when values are saved as defaults on the camera, and the answer to my knowledge is all modifications are saved. I don't know how often things are written to flash or flushed, but changes are persisted without any explicit steps.

Also, I might be missing something, but I thought that the camera had to have a specific IP address -- 10.XX.YY.#, where XXYY is your team number (and # is just some random number). But it sounds like you keep setting it to 192.168.0.##. That might be giving you a problem with getting the feed. |
Re: How to get the camera to show images on the dashboard?

Leave the camera with it's default IP of 192.168.0.90 Port 2 of the cRIO is setup for that network only. |
Re: How to get the camera to show images on the dashboard?
Also, I was not able to reproduce the solution with the charts. By changing compression, you can get high frame rates with the chart. By deleting the chart, the frame rates are still determined by the compression ... and a few other factors such as what is running on the cRIO, the load on the classmate or dashboard computer, etc.

Re: How to get the camera to show images on the dashboard?
Sorry for reposting or anything, but can anyone help me with my question? We are very stuck and I have thread through a seemingly endless number of "camera doesn't work" threads with no luck.

Re: How to get the camera to show images on the dashboard?
I'd try using the reset the camera by pulling the power, then holding the reset button while plugging the power back in and continuing to hold until you get the orange light around the lens.
Then running the Axis Setup utility again. The camera won't feed the Dashboard until it's connected to the cRIO port 2 with a crossover cable (a pink one came in the KOP). |
Re: How to get the camera to show images on the dashboard?
Thanks for the response Mark. So basically, reset the camera to factory settings, create a username of FRC:FRC, then plug it into the Ethernet Port 2 of the cRIO? I'll give that a shot.
