Re: Lonestar Regional 2010
Team 624 will be at Lonestar and St. Louis and is planning to enter a Chairman's submission at Lonestar.
|
Re: Lonestar Regional 2010
Team 2583 will be going.
|
Re: Lonestar Regional 2010
We will be there, of course, because it is only 5 minutes away from the school. This is the week people, let's get ready to compete!
|
Re: Lonestar Regional 2010
Lone star this year will have 66 teams, all but one from Texas. The lone exception is Team Combustion, 1912 from Louisiana, winners of this year's Bayou regional chairman's award, and top seed at that regional.

Re: Lonestar Regional 2010
We look forward to your excellent MC work as usual again this year Kris!

Texas had 46 teams 1 regional in 2010 , Texas has 104 teams, 2 regionals in 2011 Most likely >130 teams , 3 regionals (Central Texas ? ) Everything is getting bigger in Texas. Looking forward to Lone Star ! We have had some great history ! http://houston.txfirst.org/node/9 |
Re: Lonestar Regional 2010
Just to avoid wild speculation regarding the proposed 3rd FRC event in Texas in the Central Texas Region let me inform everyone about the following.
UT - San Antonio has announced that they have put in a bid for hosting this event. I suspect that FIRST will announce this as a site at the World Championship event as they typically announce new tournament sites during that time. UTSA staff attended the Dallas Regional tournament and will also attend the Lone Star tournament this week. To add to Andrew L's post let me include the following FTC numbers: 2007 17 teams one Championship tournament 2008 53 teams two Championship tournaments 2009 84 teams two Championship tournaments The potential of the Texas Workforce Commission grants of adding many more FTC teams, we are going to need to develop a system of qualifier events to feed into the Championship tournaments. Please contact myself or the UT-Arlington based affiliate partner if you are interested in creating a FTC team or possibly hosting a FTC qualifier event. Somebody else will have to post regarding the growth of FLL. Currently 4 championship tournaments with xxx number of teams in each. |
Re: Lonestar Regional 2010
Team 1477, Texas Torque, is excited and looking forward to being at the Lone Star Regional.

Re: Lonestar Regional 2010
Pretty good estimations I think Andrew. Of course that just rounds out the top 50%, but it's a good start. It's going to be fun the next few days!

Re: Lonestar Regional 2010
I must say, compared to the other webcasts I've seen, Lonestar was BY FAR, the best one. Excellent Job.
As to the robots, congratulations to all of the robots in the finals. I couldn't tell what was going on with 148's roller, but it was nice to see them battle it out and work with their partners to garner a win. Also props to the finalists for giving the first seed a run for their money for all 3 finals matches. |
Re: Lonestar Regional 2010
Congratulations Teams 148, 118, and 247! Y'all played fantastic matches.

-John PS - We're (of course) redesigning the ball sensor mount, and also adding a control override for the intake. That failure will NOT happen again. However, we're really good at finding new failures! |

Re: Lonestar Regional 2010
Hey does anybody have a video archive link of day 2 from the regional? We in the stands didn't get to see the interviews they were doing during the timeouts in the semi's.
Oh and don't forget Paul's son and his awsome dance moves. Any help finding these video's would be greatly appreciated.. Atlanta Bound!!!!!!!! Thanks again to the teams 118 & 647, ya'll did Great. |

Um...Really? Here are a couple of reasons why *we* don't let the motor run. I'm not sure what Mr. Neun's reasons are. 1. Don't want to stall the motor. Stalling the motor = BAD. During the finals at Palmetto, our sensor wasn't tripping as well, and the window motor was stalling. We could smell it from the drivers station. 343 was nice enough to spray their freezing blast onto our window motor before each match, or we would've been more toast. (pun intended :P) 2. In some instances with a particularly-not-well-inflated ball, the ball will get sucked into the robot further than 3". (That is of course if you're not using a hard backing). Which, if you are facing a physical backing, then you'll more than likely stall the motor, and then you're back to reason 1. Our method is that the backing for the ball is hinged, so when the ball comes in, the backing goes in with the ball. And then at the appropriate 3", the backing trips a switch, which turns off the motor. |

Great job to 148, 118, and 647. Those finals matches had some definite heart stoppers. Also, great job to 624, 704, and 3103 for putting up a valient fight. |
Re: Lonestar Regional 2010
For me, the mark of a good match is the show of determination, good coaching, and grit. We saw a lot of that in these teams.
Congratulations to all of the award winners. Well done. A special congratulations to FRC 2881 on the Judges' Award - you made Austin proud! Congratulations to 118 on the Chairman's! Congratulations to 418's, Danny Diaz, on the 2010 Lone Star Regional Woodie Flowers Finalist Award. I know first hand, the amount of work and effort that Danny puts into FLL in our region and the amount of work, effort, inspiration, and encouragement that he brings to 418. I'm sure his wife, Dawn, and his daughter, Olivia, are very happy to see his tireless contributions recognized in such an awesome way. Lone Star added two Dean's List Finalists to the group: Ashvin Bashyam from FRC 2583 and Carlos Pineda from FRC 1480. Congratulations and well done. The webcast was wonderful; kudos and thanks to the addition of the color commentary and interviews. That was a welcome and awesome addition and I hope to see more of that in our future. Well done Lone Star, Jane |

I would like to convey a special thanks to all the volunteers at LSR, especially the inspectors. There were many teams giving you head aches over the weekend. You kept cool and collected as we all had to make the mad dash to get everyone inspected on Friday. Great job. |

I would also like to extend our thanks to our 8th seed alliance partners 2587 (The DiscoBots!) and 2583 (Westwood HS) for joining us! We played them hard in an excellent alliance and the Lonestar Champs. Congratulations to 118, 148, and 647, you guys did great! It was a very exciting finals. |
Re: Lonestar Regional 2010
On behalf of team 2789, I want to say that we had a fantastic time and really enjoyed the strong competition. Congrats to teams 118, 148, and 647 on their win.
Also, special thanks needs to go out to teams 118, 2486, and 418 for lending us either parts or expertise. |

We've got some big ideas and hopefully after piloting the idea can come back big next year and to more events. Any criticism of or advice for me as a commentator would be wholeheartedly welcomed and is highly encouraged. Peer and community feed back is always the best way to improve. |
Re: Lonestar Regional 2010
Mason, do you have any of the webcast archived, and if so, do you have plans of releasing the video?
I had a great time with the interview, and I'm kinda glad you forgot to mention the detail about Michigan. :) -Parker |

Any videos from LSR would be nice. The last two years of archiving have been non-existent. (I might have to exert overdue peer pressure on those as well ) :ahh: I know the DiscoBots have 2587 centric videos that we will post on TBA if archived videos do not surface. I'm sure most other teams would like to see a more balanced video. |
Re: Lonestar Regional 2010
Congratulations to Carlos Pineda from FRC 1480 for making the 2010 Dean's List and congratulations to your team for nominating you!
Well done. Jane |
