Hello Joanne!

I'm a mentor for Team 1729, a 4-H team in the Peterborough/Greenville NH area. We're looking forward attending the GSR once again! It's not that far in the future.

Team 78 AIR Strike will be attending, we are a new 4-H based team from the Newport, Rhode Island area. This will be our first regional event as a team, but most of us were previously on team 121, The RhodeWarriors.

Hope to see you there!:D

We're looing forward to Manchester. By the looks of it, BAE will be a very competitive regional.

Good luck to all.

Thank You, I was very nervous going into those matches! And your robot's dumpers was really good, I wish we had been able to change our shooter to a dumper.

Vector: Yes :) smiles :) are :) contagious!:) :) And chiefdelphi only lets you use five in a post! *sad face.

Eh, I'm optimistic that we will be able to ship a fully functioning robot that when we uncrate it at GSR we will only have to make a few small adjustments. Like in 2008. Going around the pits that morning, a majority of teams are ready for competition and not taking apart the robot (last year was fun replacing our shooter and intake).

It might just be the first regional 78 ever wins! (Did you folks get to keep your 121 record, or does that stick with the number?)

I'll be there on Saturday without a team. For the first time in 5 years I will not be frantically making a pick list or schmoozing on Saturday morning, and I am quite ready to just sit back and watch the show. :)

Team 3132 will be attending all the way from Sydney Australia! I can't wait to come back to my "home town" and compete at GSR again. (For those of you who don't know, I used to live in Londonderry, and have lived in Australia for less than a year.) Now, just to make sure the robot gets through customs with no trouble...

We had a good run, but the team simply ran out of steam. I suppose all good things must come to an end, but I'll miss hearing "Kaizen Blitz" over the loudspeakers (I've always thought it was a pretty sweet name!)

I'm looking forward to seeing our old alliance partners, friends, and everyone else play some serious Breakaway. Maybe even get a chance to say hello to people I only recognize through WAIs too! :)

Okay. I fixed my keyboard. Also, as you may imagine Team 151 will be attending GSR. And Nationals as a HOF team.

Also we just checked... and you are actually registered to attend the unveiling. My bad.

Team 3132 - Thunder Down Under will be attending GSR! It's a long way from home here in Sydney, Australia. But we'll be there with a good size group, flying the flag for the first FRC team in Australia!

Come see us in the pit - we'll introduce you to Wombot. :)

We may even bring some Tim Tams, Cadburys chocolate (the real kind, not the Hersheys-made stuff you guys get), and a mysterious black paste known as Vegemite, which we may be using as our secret weapon to grease the gearboxes. Oh, did I just give away our secret?

Anyway, will be great for us to see everyone there. I'm sure it will be quite an induction for us!

Fizzy candies were always my favorite Australian candy...I wish they had them in the US!

Also, everyone attending the GSR should check out the GSR website located here:

http://www.baesystemsfirst.org/regional/

Make sure to check it often as the competition approaches as new and important information will be posted there. The website will also be updated during the tournament with pictures and awards listings.

No, that is not correct. Team 121 has been and always will be a school sponsored team. While there are a lot of former Rhode Warriors on the 4H team, it is not related to Team 121 in any way.

This will be our 3rd straight year at BAE, and we hope to have a blast.

I had a fantastic conversation the other day with my friends about vegimite, magnemite, and automated toasters.

Last year we had a team from south cali, and they only had enough money to send the robot, 1 mentor, and 3 students... they were a rookie team, and they did pretty good!

Does anyone know the individual pit space footprint at BAE? We were next to Red Devils last year and I really liked their pit decorations. Since we have to run out to Home Depot tonight anyways, I was thinking about getting some supplemental PVC.

Trying to Help

Seems to me that Vegemite is too sticky to be a good lubricant. Perhaps switch out someone else's grease with the stuff? :yikes:

Only sticky until it heats up a bit. As you can see over here, our preparations are well under way.

I believe that this information can be found in the game manual. If my memory serves me correct, it is 10'X10', but I am not certain...

Speaking of 'Looking Forward' ... has anyone seen or heard from him/her?

There definitely maybe, i was more gearing to getting to know people on the teams so scouting would be a little more friendly

So...

Seeing as all of you got done early and are discussing what you saw, or will be shooed out of the pits in half an hour by the pit admin table :p, how did today go?

Re: Attending Manchester Regional?

It went pretty well for us. Our team spent much of the day bringing our competition bot up to speed with our practice robot and have a few more bugs to work out for tomorrow morning, but are feeling confident.

Team 1922 put on a really impressive show with their robot today, definately look out for them over the weekend.

Good luck and see everyone tomorrow!:)

Re: Attending Manchester Regional?

"Typical Practice Day"
Well, I think that for a "Practice Thursday" today was fairly typical. Some robots were already "done" and ready to go, while others were still making improvements. At the beginning, 3 or 4 robots were on the field, while at the end of the day the field normally had either 5 or 6 robots.

"Alot of Teams Worked on Robots All Day"
It did seem that an unusual number of teams were still working on their robot just before the pits closed! Even some of the annual greats (175, 126, 121, etc.) were working throughout the day, when in past years they have only had to complete small maintenance tasks.

"Scores a Little Low"
As in past years, the practice match scores were pretty low. The "average match" ended with each alliance with 2 or 3 points; however, 0 and 5 point matches were not uncommon. I think the highest final score I saw was 8 (although I only watched about half the matches). My feeling is that, with little defense, the average Saturday morning scores will be around 5 and 6, with 10 or more being scored by the strongest alliances. So, even though the scores were not high today, I believe that will change.

"Balls Carry the Match, While the Tower Tips the Balance"
From watching the matches, very few teams (about half a dozen?) were consistently hanging. 58, 126, and 78 all had nice, quick hanging mechanisms working; however, these were a minority. Most matches would witness no action at the tower. So, it appears that most matches will be primarily scored through the soccer balls; however, the hangers will probably swing plenty of matches.

These are just some of my preliminary thoughts - I only watched about half the matches today... I spent much of the day getting our own robot working, and I took time today to check out robots in the pits. I'm looking forward to an exciting two more days! :D

Re: Attending Manchester Regional?

It was a very interesting day at GSR today. Many of the usual powerhouse teams were in rebuilding mode. Teams like 20, 126, and 175 only made it out to one or two practice matches. Here are the teams to watch as of Thursday:

58 - Have we ever walked away from a practice day saying anything other than "Yep...Riot Crew is good again!"? The most consistent performing team of the Granite State Regional is back with a slick shooter and hanger.

78 - Another given here. They shoot and hang very well. Suction is pretty nasty for ball handling.

1922 - These guys may have the single most effective shooter that I have seen this year. They can clear a zone of balls in no time what so ever. Absolutely, fantastic.

1519 - Very consistent looking shooter.

131 - Probably one of the most solid ball control dribblers at the competition. They were rocketing balls high off the glass from all the way across the field.

126 - Though it only ran for one round and its kicker wasn't kicking, the hanger was the best there. Up in seconds once they latch the bar.

20 - Once again, only out once or twice but gets the award for most maneuverable. If they get the kicker working, look out world.

2342 - They are making a mark. Very very effective at clearing a zone. Looks like they got alot of practice driving and maneuvering balls off the wall.

Of course, its practice day so its not always a great indicator, but tomorrow should be very interesting.

Good luck teams!

Re: Attending Manchester Regional?

Team 3132 had a great day! A few minor issues, even though we were working pretty hard in the pits all day, but mostly adding finishing touches to our bumpers (which were kindly built for us by 2343, as we couldn't ship plywood into the USA), or overcoming unforseen issues due to the surface area of the field that affected our drive wheels.

It was great having everyone stop by (come back Friday - we'll have stuff for you!), and thanks to all that welcomed our SafetyRoos as they came around the pit area!

And remember... Aussie Aussie Aussie... OI OI OI!!!

Than hanging points shown in that column are a total of all hanging points earned by that team's alliance in it's matches. You could lead in hanging points without having a hanger (although it would be very unlikely)
