Team 61's Progress

I guess we're not a very secretive team, I see some guys out here with the vague pictures. We don't want you guys to wait in suspense! :D

So, I'm about to update our website with these photos anyways, take a look at our progress!

First thing I notice is that you don't have bumpers all the way around the robot. Read section 8-2 of the competition manual and it will tell you that a complete polygon of bumper has to encircle your robot. Other than that, this looks like a very nice, well put together bot. One thing to notice is that the front of your robot is alway up in the air. You should probably weigh down the front to keep down and not so high up.

We don't now, because we're in testing mode. They're from last years bot, they're not even the right color :)

Anyways, it's not ALWAYS in the air, that was just going fast.. This is what happens when we go slow:

We'd have bumpers already if we had remembered to order the materials sooner... hahaha

The point is, this is a robot that is under construction........not finished. We were testing the ability to climb a bump, we still have quite a bit of work to do on the rest of the robot. We were showing the photo because this is a unique pivoting drive system that we have not seen any other team use.

If you guys put that bogie on to a rocker, you basically recreated the Mars rover's drive system. It was our initial plan but it proved too difficult...

If you had it, you could go on the ramp at a diagonal smoothly without problems. :)

I think he was talking about how we have the gear box and motors attached to the whole pivoting assembly along with a very low pivot point. Gives us a low center of gravity to reduce flipping potential.

Thanks on behalf of the team! Those photos should be coming tomorrow evening!

Funny thing is we actually prototyped this kind of articulating drive, we saw that the modules would have to swing way up into our frame on the prototype and didn't like that to much. But this looks awesome good luck you guys!
