Bad Weather Again!!!!

:ahh: Team 2389 is experiencing some more bad weather. It snowing hard right now and my team is probably going to be out of school tomorrow.:ahh:

It's going to be like that for much of mid-west to eastern United States. Snow's nothing to complain about when compared to the mudslides in California. I pray to God that none of the teams were affected over there, and people who are affected are being taken care of...

Just to be clear, Minnesota is experiencing really heavy snow, too, so I know what you're feeling..

Really heavy snow is different in Minnasota and Oklahoma...

It has to be pretty bad up there.

I hear it's really worse in the eastern states.

Yup. We even have shock waves from exploding power plants that rattle our build sites.

Consider it "Just another challange".

Then show the judges at your regional what you had to overcome. Make them understand what you went through and how resiliant your team is.

A person who has never faced adversity, has never done anything meaningful.

Living 1 hour south of Oklahoma City, there isn't even snow outside yet. :D Sadly... It's an hour drive into the Pre-Engineering Academy at north Oklahoma City... So I hear the roads are getting pretty bad...

Keehun, is there ice were you guys are? Because I know the ice storm here in the 405 really delayed some teams.

(Not that I am complaining. I wouldn't pass up a stressless 7 days without power, fun in the snow, and a fire inside. Not if the other option is the stress getting the robot built. :D I am a FIRST addict. But I'm also sensible.

I agree, while the weather here has caused a lot of set backs, we've been crazy productive when we have been able to meet. I've got a lot of faith in our team that we'll get the robot finished on time.

We are under the same problem!
We couldn't build Friday night, Building was closed due to the bad snow that was coming. We coudn't build Saturday, building was closed Along with Sunday. We are off school on Monday because of the road condition, and nowI'm hearing we are going to get 8 MORE INCHES of snow?! Yipes, build season is winding down.

If our welder had been given overtime this past weekend, he would have been in that plant when it exploded. It kind of puts everything in perspective.

in the past, FIRST has been known to extend build season due to widespread extreme weather. they've also been known not to. i'm interested to see what becomes of this.

I'm hoping for an extension, even if it's just a few days. Our school was closed for the entire weekend after getting around 18 inches of snow. If the reports are right, we'll probably lose a few days this week as well with another snow storm on its way.

We hear the same thing every year, snow or weather causing school closings/delays. With a January and February build season, you have to expect these things. Maybe we can talk FIRST into having snow instead of carpet on the playing field. LOL

Re: Bad Weather Again!!!!

"Bad" weather is all in the interpretation.

Here in Vancouver we've been having one of the warmest "winters" ever.

Which is great... unless you happen to be hosting the Winter Olympics. Whistler has plenty of snow, but on the local mountains they have to truck it in! I'm sure the snowboarders and freestyle skiers competing on the local mountains wouldn't describe your weather as "bad".

We've only met twice in the last 11 days, not exactly an ideal build season here, but we've had an abnormal amount of snow this winter, something no one was prepared for. Hopefully the weather hold off until after ship date now.

Here in Philadelphia, we got 28.5" of snow Friday into Saturday. Now, Tuesday into Wednesday, we are expecting to be pounded with an addition 12-18" of snow with potential to be up to 2' of snow. We will most likely lose this week after Tuesday, into the weekend and maybe even Monday of next week.

(A grand total of 52.5" of snow is not the best for robot building, especially since we're a rookie team.):ahh: :ahh: :ahh: :ahh: :ahh:

I'm glad to see that you remembered the emoticons.

What are you guys talking about regarding the exploding power plant?

If our welder had overtime he would have been inside the building at the time of the explosion.

This is something that our Team 1831 - Screaming Eagles from Gilford, New Hampshire has had to deal with on a regular basis. During the 2007 season we lost an entire week of build time. This year we have only lost 4 days so far, which is about average for the north country. We know your pain all to well.

Good luck.

Re: Bad Weather Again!!!!

Earlier in the season I lost 3 days due to having to evacuate for fear of mud flows. In a recent storm a couple days ago, over a dozen houses just two or three miles from me were lost. The debris basins have all reached their capacities, filled with dirt, mud, ash, brush etc from the recent fire that wiped out the entire mountain range. There has been an endless convoy of dump trucks 24 hours a day carrying out as much debris as they can before the next rain, which actually started about 20 minutes ago. Personally, I have not really been affected yet, but my house does sit about 1 block downhill from a debris basin, directly in front of it. The scary part about it is a good downpour can happen a mile away up in the hills, and you'd never know it until the rush of mud hit you.

WOW! Here is Australia the weather has been pretty good. We have had a bunch of days over 90 degrees (F), and a bunch of rain. The trains had to shut down their inter city line due to a mud-slide last week, but no one was injured. I have an Aussie friend that got stuck in Washington DC for a day due to the bad weather.

I hope you all get enough time to finish your robots. As someone who used to live (and do FLL and FRC) in New England, I know how much the weather can be a problem. Good luck!

Is weather shippable to the states?

What's even sadder is that since my site never closes, I will be forced to take vacation today. That's vacation that should be spent on the robot.

Re: Bad Weather Again!!!!

Here in New England the snow's no big deal. Even a foot or two isn't cause for alarm, maybe a day off school if the plows haven't gotten to back roads yet.

I feel bad for the mid atlantic teams- those areas don't have snow plows and stockpiles of sand and salt for the roads!
