I do not know what motor they used, but I do know that we are also playing with a vacuum system. We used one of the fisher price motors (not attached to the gearbox) it work really well. :D

Hope that helps. :D

I believe they've said that they're using a Fisher-Price.

Won’t using a motor to generate some kind of vaccum qualify as using a different compressor then the one allowed? A more powerful one? I don’t know much about pneumatics, can anyone explain to me how is this legal, if at all?

It's legal. A vacuum is being created, air isn't being stored anywhere.

See the Game Manual, Section 8.3.9 "Pneumatic System" for the official word.

For the purposes of the FIRST competition, a device that creates a vacuum is not considered to be a pneumatic device and are not subject to the pneumatic rules (although they must still satisfy all other appropriate rules). These include, but are not limited to, venturi-type vacuum generators and off-the-shelf vacuum devices (as long as they are powered by provided or permitted motors).

Why you are using Vics? Our team is doing the same thing, mostly due space concerns and the high failure rate of Jags. (The replacements take weeks to ship...)

we used a fisher-price for our vacuum. the blower is one we got from a vacuum repair shop's parts bin (they donated 5, we got 2, 1646 got 3)
