Where are people buying batteries?

I know to go to the FRC page to get the list of vendors, which I have done. But when you go to those websites, you don't get any hits on the part number for the battery.

I contacted dantona, who gave me some websites of vendors, who don't carry the specific model number.

In the Q&A, someone had this exchange:

Where are people buying the batteries? What model are they getting?

The part number according to the KOP is NP18-12 and can be found at http://www.dantona.com/viewbatt.php

also are previous years batteries still allowed?

Short answer: it depends on which previous year you're talking about.

Long answer:

<R40> The only legal primary source of electrical energy on the ROBOT during the competition is one MK ES17-12 12VDC non-spillable lead acid battery, OR one EnerSys NP 18-12 battery, as provided in the 2010 KOP. Teams may use other equivalent 12V batteries during development, testing and practice MATCHES. However, during competition MATCHES only one MK ES17-12 battery OR one EnerSys NP 18-12 battery can be used on the ROBOT.
And anything else is to be used only for non-competition matches.

Has anyone done any performance comparison between the two?

My team bought the NP18-12Bs from AtBatt.com. They shipped from somewhere in Los Angeles County (do not recall off the top of my head), so they got to my team's location within about a day.

They also threw in a 9V for free.

Yes. That's what I did. I called mkbatteries direct on the phone. Told them we was a FIRST team. They gave us the FIRST approved batteries, and FREE GROUND SHIPPING!!!! Which was amazing, considering it was 45 lbs to ship QTY (3) batteries.

MK shipped QTY (3) batteries instock from the Chicago Warehouse direct to us in Indiana in ONE DAY UPS GROUND....what a great deal! Easy to deal with on the phone, highly recommended.
