SMC Pneumatics

Topic: SMC sy3240 Air Solenoids

Quick Question (x3):

1. Is anybody using the SMC air solenoids this year?

2. Is there a class in the WPI Library to control them or is more complicated setup required?

3. Is it ever advantageous to use them instead of the Festo valves?

Re: SMC Pneumatics

1. Almost Definitely
2. The same class used to control the Festo ones (Solenoid I believe, but i might be wrong)
3. Depends on the specific models in question.

Re: SMC Pneumatics

2. There are at least two different classes, depending on whether you want to use Spike relays or the cRIO digital sourcing "solenoid" module to control them.

3. The Festo valves I am familiar with are physically large, have manual control levers that are relatively hard to activate, and have annoyingly unique electrical connectors. SMC parts have other tradeoffs.
