Light sensor
We are looking for a light sensor similar to the one that used to be in the kit..
( A long time ago.....) We want something we can use to just sense the white line.... We also need it to be more robust than the VEX sensors... We would like to use it as a fail safe during autonomous... Ideally it would throw its own light... reflect back.... measure. We don't need code... we just need hardware... I remember using these sensor in Stack Attack... just can't remember who makes them... they came in the kit for a few years...I think they were yellow... For the life of me I can't remember the name Help? thanks!!! |
Re: Light sensor
You might be able to mod a lego sensor for this purpose.

Re: Light sensor
It was a company called Banner.
We used the sensors from the 2003/2004 kit for many years after. |
Re: Light sensor
As ,4lex S. said, you should check out the LEGO sensors. They have a new color sensor that is illegal for FLL, but it might work great for FRC. Also, the sensors tend to be really robust--try giving the gyro (from the KoP) to an eight-year-old, and see what happens. ;)

Banner I remember now... yes they were great sensors.. Thanks for the ideas about using the lego sensors but they are not as robust and don't project the light as far... We need something we can tuck up inside of the robot.. thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good luck!! |
Re: Light sensor
QS18VN6D was the sensor that was in the KOP years ago.
It is infared, and diffuse. QS18VN6LV is a visible light sensor with a nice tight beam that we have used several times. We will likely be using a couple of these this year. Eugene |
Re: Light sensor
One of the 2003 or 2004 KOPs included a visible light Banner brand sensor. Not sure of model numbers or anything, but it was a red wavelength light.
