Electronics Board and Physics
 
Not sure if this has been put out yet, but our team has found that by going over the bump, there is a large amount of force on the robot, and by relation, the electronics board. Any ideas for shock absorbers or the like?

Keep in mind, however, that they are designed fairly stiffly - it's actually the mass of the object mounted to them that helps them do their job. Using one to support only a Jaguar, for example, would not help very much. But if everything was mounted on a single board weighing 20 lbs, they could certainly help.

We're using an equivalent to these (ours came from home depot/Lowes): http://www.mcmaster.com/#washers/=5ul4g2
Stack up a bunch of hard rubber washers, it's pretty cheap. We had 6 stacked up for the main board (CRIO, Sidecar, distribution board, 2 spikes, circuit breaker, and game controller).

Our solution to this: Dont go over the bump. Due to the amount of stress on our robot in our bump testing today, we are opting out of bump support, and are going to lower the top of the robot to tunnelize it.

We were able to purchase isolation mounts for the main circuit board from McMaster Carr. Note the CRIO is rated for 100g's. We were more concerned with wires coming loose than damage to the electronic equipmdent.

We made isolation mounts for our jaguires using 2 pieces of 1/8" plywood with egg crate foam between the plywood which works better than the comercial mounts.

In addition we are using pneumatic wheels the reduce the impact forces when going over the bumps.

Our suspension keeps all four wheel on the gorund as we go over the bumps to reduce the hammering the robot takes as it comes down the back side of the bumps.

Without the above modifications we managed to break one of the kit wheels
