How easy do you expect it to be to line up your hanger with the bar?

It looks pretty sweet. Should be another good bot (as usual)

I had the same question too. Do you guys plan to do some sort of turn onto the bar and hook your mechanism on?

Other than that, it looks like an awesome machine. I really love the way is sits suspended, it looks almost like it's levitating.

There is a gap between the drive and idler wheels. Our drivers are pretty adept at getting the pole in between the wheels. Drive forward a few inches and the rear (idler) wheel and front (drive) wheel both engage the pole. Hit the button and watch it drive up. :)

Check out this episode of American Robot, we demonstrate the concept of hooking onto the bar at around 3:45. It's slightly more difficult with the actual arm because the distance between the idler and drive wheel was reduced when we decided on a pneumatic wheel.

Awesome video, I've seen a few teams using the same suction cup as your team for their vacuum ball control method, where did you find those?

So the birth of team 78 has begun with a great looking robot.

Why did 121 form 78 ?

When you swing out the arm to hang, how does it lock without bending ?

Thanks for the compliment.

We are a brand new team, but with enough veteran mentors that we are not considered a rookie team under FIRST rules. Our organization works with 16 different schools in our community and has five (3 FLL, 1 FTC, 1 FRC) teams.

Here is a good pic of hanging: http://www.joemenassa.com/images/rob...816_large.html

For our entire build season in pictures see: http://www.joemenassa.com/robotics2010.html

I wanna thank the 78 crew of mentors and students for a great week 6. I unfortunately was not able to be there the 5 weeks prior. I just wanna say thank you. Thank you all for makeing this old veteran feel proud to be apart of your team. See you all at BAE

Did you folks try different distances between the idler and the drive wheel?
I am assuming that its better to make them closer together in order to wedge it in better for added friction, hence, the tradeoff being harder for the driver to set it in place on the tower pole.

If so, was it harder to climb the pole with a greater distance apart? From the pics, I cant calculate if there is added torque or not.

Definition of "coopertition":
Being impressed and thrilled with seeing how well your robot drives, kicks, handles the ball, and especially hangs; and at the same time being a bit frightened and worried about facing your robot someday in competition.
Great, great job!

Great job guys! As always an amazing machine from an amazing group of people. The video work as been great all season. As in previous years, I was always excited for the next American Robot episode. I wish I was going to be at BAE next weekend to see you guys in action. Guess I'm going to have to wait till ATL. Can't wait to see the machine, and all of you!
