My guess is some kind of four-bar linkage system for lifting.

Do we get 2 points for making soccer balls in 3129's basketball goal robot?

Sorry to disappoint, but there isn't a single rivet on our robot! The aspect that 1501 will like is our ball control mechanism, because it sounds like a small airplane starting up. At least, the first few versions did. The one on the competition robot is much quieter, but still has the same rotor-type sound.

This picture is an explanation of our kicker assembly. We stretch surgical tubing to provide the firing force. We have variable strength, and a release mechanism with only one motor. It's dependent on a assembly that works like the one determining the height of the basketball hoop. When it gets pushed in one direction, it increments the latch, but a nudge in a different direction will release the latch. To arm the kicker, we run the motor one way, then we reverse it to fire.
