Is it possible that you could save your Word document as a text file, or a wordpad file, and copy/paste that? I haven't tried it, but...

We tried using a notepad file, but that didn't work too well because the width of the file was different than the width of the submission box. That might have been an error of mine, though.
We found it best to indicate at the top of the submission that ~ would indicate a new paragraph, and then add that in between the paragraphs.

I think every team is having this issue. Our team just took out characters and cried.

Our team is! We have already reached our character limit, so we cannot unfortunately find a way to creatively indicate paragraphs.... hopefully the judges will understand!

We wound up doing something like this:

[PARAGRAPH TOPIC SOMETHING A] blah blah blah blah..............

The stuff in brackets being our topic separator.

Hopefully when they print the documents for the RCA judges, they go into the edit mode and copy there, at least the paragraph breaks are there.

We are going to find someone to get a printed copy to the RCA judges as soon as we get to the competition.

I'm actually assuming the system is displaying our submissions with no format but once it gets accessed by administrators or judges the format will return. I think it's simply for the character count. Or at least I am hoping so. Either way if our essay shows up the same way it should still get the same point accross. Lets hope all our submissions return to original formatting!!!! Keep your fingers crossed. I am :) Good luck everyone!

I hope our submission was received correctly. Does everyone see their total essay? It seems ours got cut off.

Ours did too, by several characters. I think the students may have tried to force some paragraph breaks by inserting extra returns and spaces. I couldn't watch their every move in the final edit. We value white space in documents almost as much as the text. I find it frustrating to count those special and important characters, but not display their effect.

What a bummer! Dave wouldn't be able to see this in a CA submission this year:

Re: Chairman's Award submission formatting issues

strength of character
tested in blobs of words - true
but substance remains

This is a great year to have hard copies of the Chairman's submission and the WFA submission available for the judges. I'm sure they will see that there has been a problem and will work through it.

Good luck to all teams who have submitted for the Chairman's Award and the Woodie Flowers.

Jane
