Re: Robot Names
Team 2403
2008: Rusty (because absolutely everything except the kit frame was made of steel, the judges absolutely LOVED that! ::safety:: ) 2009: PEZZ (the balls were stored vertically and shot out one at a time, and the whole thing was a rectangular prism. Named after the candy, but with another z to avoid copyright issues) 2010: Still undecided! perhaps 'Patar' because our resident welder, Patrick, did an AMAZING job making custom parts this year! |
Re: Robot Names
"Didier Drogbot"?

Re: Robot Names
THEBOSS
|
Re: Robot Names
The name of the team 501 robot is "Boomdeyada" because our 2009 robot was featured in the Discovery Channel Boomdeyada commercial.
Go PowerKnights! |
Re: Robot Names
This year we changed the concept and gave it the name of CHUPACABRAS because you would never see it coming. :D and our classmate's nick name is shaniqua:ahh:
|
Re: Robot Names
We named our robot Anklebreaker, because the kicker has enough power to shatter an ankle, and is at the right hight as well. lol
|
Re: Robot Names
We decided to name it "Project X" because of our new shelving unit we built where in the design it had space for this years robot which was not built yet and the space was labeled "Robot X"
|
Re: Robot Names
our awesome machine's name is Uncle Ralph, named after one of our retiring mentor's sayings. Get the forms signed by your mom, dad, or uncle Ralph
|
Re: Robot Names
we didn't originally give our robot a name, but by the end of peachtree, our robot was given the name "the smart car robot" :)
|
Re: Robot Names
After seeing a few of our practice rounds in DC on Thursday, our team decided to name our robot Crazy Legs. Our autonomous programmer had forgotten to tune the PIDs, and as such our robot's articulating drive started to "buck" and, in essence, did a "jive dance" across the field, as the MC said. Luckily, the robot never crossed the middle line, and we even decided to leave the program as it was for a while, just for kicks. After a few more matches, some of the volunteers on the field even started to call the robot by its official name, without ever even hearing it. Very strange indeed.
|
Re: Robot Names
Our robot's name hasn't really been decided yet (spite it being after Peachtree). Officially, it's name is the "Logan Rover" as we didn't change the name in TIMS from last year (yay - go us for remembering). Although it's been called the "T-Chassis", "Tanner's Design", and some other long name that I shot down cause I couldn't remember it and it was a mouthful.
-Tanner |
Re: Robot Names
2010: Rampage, because it has a ramp!
2009: Rover, cuz it picks up moonrocks 2008: Track-a-pult, it catapulted trackballs 2007: Phobos Robos, named after one of Mars's moons 2006: Ball-istic, it is a ballistic poof ball shooter 2005: Ramrod, heck if I know why! |
Re: Robot Names
Our original name (and the name we're commonly known by) is Purple Haze, so we started a tradition about 8 years ago to name our robots so that they have a PH in them somewhere.
This year's robot is named PHardos, a white dwarf star also known as Procyon B. Star Trek The Animated Series also created a Constellation-class ship (same class as the classic Enterprise) called the USS Phardos (NCC-1757). Now we'll see how he/she/it performs in Dallas! -Danny |
Re: Robot Names
Team 343, Metal in Motion's robot is named JOC in memory of a former team member that was killed in a motorcycle wreck this past summer. This is the third time in our 11 year history that we have named our robot in memory of team members that have passed away. I hope this average goes way down over the coming years!
|
Re: Robot Names
This year, our robot is named Holy Cow because of all the holes in the frame. It was named by the mentor who ended up working on some programming.
He also named the tank code tanksareus and the ball handler's name is Wilson. |
Re: Robot Names

Re: Robot Names
Team 2265's robot name is Kelley "the Beckham" Guitelman. The robot's named after two students who passed away last year (Jordan Kelley and Joshua Guitelman). The Beckham is in reference to this year's game.

Re: Robot Names
Although we never change our robot name in TIMS, we do name them each year.
2003 Hyo-supposedly Hyo was Panther in Japanese (we later learned not so true...) 2004 Oscar-in honor of the suction trash can lid (remember Sesame Street?) 2005 Mr. Bill-the tetra hadler on the end was a plastic bowling ball painted to resemble Mr. Bill of SNL fame. This really dates some of us.... 2006 Rosie- this goal shooter resembled Rosie the maid on the Jetsons...see comment from 2005 and multiply by 10.... 2007 Yoshi-the raptor-looking ring grabber 2008 Flingo- a play on our Beatles theme that year and the flinging action of our bot 2009-Ruby-a nod to its Rube Goldburgish design 2010 Scherman-in honor of our founding mentor and beloved friend, Dean Scherman, whose wise guidance, patience, and integrity made Team 1108 the team that they are, and who lost his battle with pancreatic cancer just a few short months after taking our team to Championships. We miss you Mr. Scherman and we are trying our best to make you proud. |
Re: Robot Names
I kind of want to name my team's robot "Colbert" after the treadmill that is in a node in the International Space Station =D but nothing official yet.
|
Re: Robot Names
Not sure if it's been posted here.. Team 3132 of Australia has named our robot this year: Wombot.
It's kinda short and fat, stumpy, if you will. And the ball control lets out a real growl. :) |
Re: Robot Names
this year we named our robot "Oswald" after the cartoon octopus because our robot is an octogon. the names from our previous bots are all in my signature
|
Re: Robot Names
2005 - Yoshimi (After the Flamming Lips song)
2006 - Bessy (First year competing as 'The Holy Cows') 2007 - Daisy 2008 - Daisy II 2009 - Daisy May (Kids didn't want to keep incrementing a number after Daisy, so they gave it a 3 letter name.) 2010 - Daisy Bell (four letter name) |
Re: Robot Names
Last year our robot was G.A.B.L Gyrascope Aligning Balancing Leverage, named after Gabe A.B. Long
This year we wanted to name it after a famous horse, so we went with Trigger. |
Re: Robot Names
2003-2007 - Elite Technobot (possibly inaccurate, but that's as far as I know)
2008 - The Super Rad 2009 - Papa Bear 2010 - iBex We usually agree on a name sometime near week 6, when we realize that it's still nameless. Don't ask me how we came up with them. |
Re: Robot Names
2010- Calcio
2009-Artemis 2008- Atlas 2007- Agitator 2006- Clawdia 2005-Spork 2004-Epsilon We tried to break from the whole "greek names that start with A" thing, considering how it's gone for us in the past... |
Re: Robot Names
Ours is named Lancelot.
Next year I'm hoping to name it after another knight of the round table. |
Re: Robot Names
Our first robot went unnamed.
Then came Jared, because he had to lose a lot of weight in a hurry. Mediocre robot. Then Wilson, because tennis balls were incorporated. Mediocre robot. Then came Shiela (from Red v. Blue), and we were semifinalists. Were she only faster, she would have been a top bot. Then came Baba Ghanoush, who we only talk about in shameful whispers. This year, it is Karen, who kicked so much butt at the FLR that we are all still stunned at how well we did: Top seed, Regional Winners, absolute rulers of the FLR mid-field with a 15-3 record. ...so in the future, all of our robots are going to have female names... |
Re: Robot Names
Our first robot for team 3193, Falco Tech, is "Talon Alpha", from the talons on a falcon, which is the school mascot. "Talon I" was considered, but the students all liked the standard military nomenclature for letters instead of Greek numbers.

Re: Robot Names
team2185....robot name is FIRE...HD (Fire in high defination);
|
Re: Robot Names
It's almost as hard as naming your kids. At least you get to see the robot grow up and take on its personality before you have to name it. They both (bots and kids) always leave home with more "tweaking" needed, get a little bruised up in the real world, come home for a little TLC, and their pictures always bring back a flood of good memories.
2006 - Sprocket - (it had about 16 of them on it) 2007 - RampZilla - (when deployed, we had a 16 foot "wingspan") 2008 - Trigonosaurus - (Trigon is latin for ball, our grabber "chomped" the ball, and could go to 10'+ high) 2009 - String Theory - (hopper walls and rollers used a lot of 1/4" polycord and tubing) 2010 - Jiminy Kickit - (smallest bot we've built, has extendable antennae for ball control, and the roller makes an annoying noise) |
Re: Robot Names
Here is 675's past 6 years:
2010 : "The Green Machine" (The ramp is green) 2009: The Weavinator or The Toaster ( toaster because we were ghost toast, and Weavinator for chairmans) 2008: Glory Angel ( in dedication of an alumni who got in a serious accident) 2007: Gloria Machina ( Glory to the machine, felt like it) 2006: Cthulu ( I dont quite remember why we chose it, back then haha) 2005: Delilah ( The programmer demanded that it be named such or no code) |
Re: Robot Names
2005-2010: For Sale
In our Rookie year we needed a piece of backing material for our team Number, so we went to Staples and bought that For Sale sign to use. We never trimmed off the excess and have had the same sign on every robot we've had! ![]() |
Re: Robot Names
2005: Elvis- the king of rack and rail
2006: Sargent York (for the incredible sharp shooting capabilities similar to that of the movie, really good movie!) 2007: No real name, could be the Enforcer for placing 3rd at GSR and only playing defense. 2008: Fezzik (from The Princess Bride and how it can lift big rocks:trackballs) and Mach6 (AKA Speed Racer) 2009: Colonel York (in memory of Sargent York and hoping to live up to its sharp shooting name) 2010: Vortex (for the suction cup ball control) |
Re: Robot Names
Here they are for the Robodox:
2001: the D.O.C.T.O.R. 2002: Surgeon, MD 2003: Therapist 2004: Dentist 2005: Psychologist 2006: Dermatologist 2007: <Default> 2008: Physician 2009: Neurologist I'm sure you see a trend (I'm not really sure what happened in '07). For 2010, the first year we're being sponsored by St. Jude Medical (a company that makes artificial heart valves & pacemakers), the name was obvious: 2010: Cardiologist -Mr. Van Coach, Robodox |
Re: Robot Names
Before 2188 was known as Critical Mass:
2007 Robot - "Fatboy" 2008 Robot - "The Hurricane" Now that our team name is Critical Mass: 2009 Robot - "Nuke" 2010 Robot - "Havoc" |
Re: Robot Names
We ususally make a long list of robot names related to the game, the robot shape or just our team name - the Channel Cats - then take a vote. In keeping with our fishy theme and the fact that we are spitting out soccer balls (bait), we selected Chum Chucker as our robot name this year.
Last year we called it Crater Cat. |
Re: Robot Names
2007: Sheila 2 I still don't know why?
2008: Lefty, Because it would only turn right while it was having programming issues. 2009: Fry Daddy, The top ball holding portion looked like a Fry Rack 2010: WatchDog, Because of the watchdog troubles we are having/(hopefully)HAD |
Re: Robot Names
2005: Sidewinder II. Mentor Jerry Smyth (R.I.P.) created his own ariplane design and called it Sidewinder. Our robot was dedicated to him.
2006: Scorpion. The design looked like a Scorpion. 2007: Martha. Mentor Al Thorn's mother had passed a way. Her name was Martha. 2008: Phoenix. Jerry Smyth had passed away. We were rising out of the ashes of not having him on our team. 2009: Skyhawk. Dedicated to Jerry Smyth. He flew the A-4 Skyhawk in the Vietnam war. Off of carriers :ahh: 2010: Delta (Ice and Fire). Delta shaped. |
Re: Robot Names
Team 1178's robots:
08- Manny (after the prongs on it to lift the ball, made it look like a mammoth) 09- the Robot (we never named it) 10- Mikey (after the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, because we gave it a plexiglass armor, so it looked like a turtle) |
Re: Robot Names
2005: Chubbot because we were sponsored by UTC Chubb, we're so original
2006: Chainy because it had a lot of Chain...again with that originality 2007: Dynamite. Not sure why it was before our team, but one of the members was a cheerleader so we bought the "We are Dynamite!" cheer in from the squad. I liked that one 2008: Lightning...no idea why, but it was awesome 2009: Vortex because we had that spiral loader type and it looked like a twister 2010: STRIKER Because it kicks/strikes the ball. 1124: Originality at its finest. |
Re: Robot Names
Since we became 1086 we have picked a new cheese name every year.
2008-Cheddar 2009-Meunster 2010-Swiss It's allot of fun brainstorming and debating before the season... because the seniors usually pick the name before-hand. |

Re: Robot Names
Notice no hanger on us? We have ALL the weight on the drivetrain. We had plans for a hanger... but the weather caused us to fall behind in time. If we still want to put one on we are going to put some serious cheesing into our robot... but we are doubting we are going to do it because we dont want to degrade our structural integrity and take off any of the functional parts of our drivetrain... which is just about EVERYTHING!

Re: Robot Names
I love the evolution of our robot names.
2003: Marvin 2004: Marvin II 2005: Chubb-bot 2006: Chainey 2007: Dynamite 2008: Lightning 2009: Vortex 2010: Striker (The team voted on Marvin in 2003, opted to keep the theme in 2004, UTC Chubb became our new main sponsor in 2005 so the robot was named after them to honor them, in 2006 the robot had massive lengths of chain, the 2007 name was based off of a team cheer, 2008 was lightning fast, 2009 was shaped like a vortex, and by now I'm out of the loop and I'm not sure of the 2010 reasons.) |
Re: Robot Names
As Gene mentioned, our 2010 robot is named JOC (Jock) after John O'Connor. In Florida the judges were describing our robot before presenting the Xerox Creativity Award, and they said it was like a "Jack in the box," so we quickly picked up "JOC in the box:D"
|
Re: Robot Names
2009 - Dante - we were going with a fire theme with our newly rookie team: Prometheus
2010 - Chester - This year we decided to turn our flaming ball headed mascot into a game player. Our t-shirt is him bouncing the soccer ball off his chest. We're a good kicking, endless loop robot which catches the ball off the tower so it seemed appropriate. Also who can resist a good pun. :-) |
Re: Robot Names
We have a weird history of robots...
Mech Tech GSGIS Era 2000-Grunt Master 9000 2001-Peacemaker 2002-IT 2003-Funky Mech Tech Phoenix Era 2003-Phoenix (Robots stabbed by Forklifts don't usually survive, so a new Phoenix was commisioned) 2004-Phoenix Rising 2005-Phoenix TryForce 2006-Phoenix Pi 2007-Phoenix Phenomenon/Quattro (Fourth in Series) Mech Tech Dragons Era 2008-Dante (Ring of Fire hoop for Overdrive) 2009-Redemption (Because the team needed to be redeemed after the mechanical and strategical failure of Dante) 2010-Ahab (When your poorly attached kicker, capable of beheading someone, becomes unattached and flies into another teams box, your team may lose the safety award, but harpoon puns are abound) |
