Our students have always come up with a fire-related name for our robots.

2007 Inferno
2008 Fireball (named after Fireball Roberts, a NASCAR star)
2009 Afterburner
2010 Pele (named after the Hawaiian goddess of volcanos, and the great Brazilian soccer player)

How many teams have named their bot Chuck Norris? I hear at least one rookie team does it per year but i didnt see one last year (my first year).

Our school mascot is the Viking, so we have used Norse Mythology:

MOE 365 has a process similar to the X-Cats for naming our bot each year. A list of names is developed and the team votes. Names all have "MOE" as part of the name.

We have two this year the competition bot is Heather named after a school counsler who dies last year frim brain cancer. Her son is on our team. Our practice robot is Oscar who was one of the La Vida Robot 4 who beat MIT in the underwater robot comp. He has now been deported and has a wife and kid here in the US that are citizens. He has a degree in Mechanical Engineering and is now looking for a job in Mexico, Spain, or Canada. one of them is going to get a hell of an engineer that was trained in the US. Too bad for the US. We named the bot after him to honor his struggle.

Funny, our robot was almost OTIS this year, although all caps. Funny, then someone on the team (a mentor) who hadn't seen the robot in weeks (yeah, I know, not sure how it happened, she's more business type, I guess) emailed saying the name was Striker.

Since our rookie year, our team has included "feet" in the name. This largely stems from the fact that we used mecanum wheels our first year, and named it "happy feet." For whatever reason we continued this our second year.

2007- Happy Feet (Mecanums, plus the movie of course)
2008- Sweet Feet (No clue.)
2009- Slippery Feet (Slick wheels, duh!)
2010- Big Foot (I know, not plural. Named for the kicker though!)
