are there rules on how big a ramp can be?

Can it fit in the Finale Configuration? That would be the only rule restricting that, as far as I know. (Normal configuration during normal gameplay, too.)

well we were going to try to fit it into the design. we were going to keep it up until the last few minutes when we were going to start hanging. are there any rules on that?

Can you fit it into the Finale Configuration?

That is the only rule governing maximum expansion in the last few seconds.
