Re: Bumpers

We're doing the old-fashioned way: vertical slice of pool noodle over the corners.

I suggested beveling once I read that it was legal, but by then our pool noodles were already cut to length.

Re: Bumpers

How long is the second side? Are there hard parts in the corners? Is that 2 sets or 4?

I'm asking simply to make help sure that you're being legal, and to see if you're expecting a LOT of contact.

Re: Bumpers

they are legal. the other side of the bumper is shorter than the side showing. also in the corners there are metal brackets completly behind the plywood then pool noodle was bent around the corner. they were legal last year when we used them. and this is 2 sets. each bumper covers half of two sides

I think the only proble, of ths year, is the position os the corners, and another problem is that the bots need to have bumpers all over it. :(

we are using the pool noodles cause is simple to do.:D

Steven,
Just to be sure, each of those has at least 6" of bumper segment behind them? And they are constructed to at least have hard parts in the corners that look like the right hand detail in Fig 8-4? It is not sufficient to say that anything passed last year. I am sorry for that. You may have had an easy or inexperienced inspector. We are trying to improve on that every year so that inspections are consistent at each event and across the country.

Re: Bumpers

yes they do have 6 inches behind them. each bumper is 13.75"x18.75" long (robot is 27.5x37.5). the corners meet spec. the ply wood doesnt over lap at the corners. IMO this bumper design is much sturdier than traditional bumpers. the corners, because they are just bent pool noodle are less susceptable to damage during gameplay.

That is the answer I would be looking for at competition. Good Luck!
