Re: Numbers on Bumpers...

There is a fabric spray paint at WalMart that some of our students came back with. There's some splatter, but all in all they turned out well. I'd advise you to MASK really, really well. Oh, and one of the cans was defective and had to be exchanged, so be aware of that issue. I believe it was in the Arts and Crafts area...not the paint area. (and it didn't dry tacky like some paints will).

We had ours screen printed at a place in st. Paul, and they turned out fabulous.

Has anyone tried self adhesive vinyl numbers from Chartpak? Will inspectors actually measure the numbers? I can get 3" but not 4" in the short time we have until pack and ship time! Any help would be appreciated:eek:

Great Bot! We're just down the road in Arlington. Can/would you please let me know where you got the screening done? I'd like to use a place that already knows what we're trying to do. I would appreciate it!

Our bot is definitely simpler....y'all have done a superb job! Looking forward to seeing you on the field!

I think it was done by someone in the school district, but someone that does t-shirt silk screening should be able to do it for you. You might want to contact our coach Phil Harris at phil.harris@gpisd.org for more ideas on that.Thank you for the great complements we would love to have y'all come out and see us sometime.

If it is on the Inspection Checklist, we will inspect for it.

I have inspected at least one team with cross stitch. They were surprised I knew what it was. I wonder why?

Re: Numbers on Bumpers...

After the "issues" we had last year with students, stencils, and fabric paints we "outsourced" our numbers on our bumpers this year to a local embroidery company which used their vinyl cutter and heat fused the numbers to the fabric for us.

When trying to figure out this solution we just went and talked to our schools activities director and asked who the school used as a supplier.

Of all the things that we thought would be a major issue, this was NOT one of them until we got to this point! Our bumpers will definetly not win any beauty contests but they are hopefully legal and legible enough.

The stupid thing, I know from experience in the auto world about dyeing fabrics and such that painting would probably not be the best. At the 11th hour we find that we are doing the spray paint and marker thing, next year definetly silk screen before assembly

Re: Numbers on Bumpers...

I used a sharpie to outline the numbers, then handpainted ours. If I had been thinking ahead I would have used fabric and iron-on bonding, then sewed around the numbers because I think it would have looked better, but we wrapped our bumpers before adding numbers. Be careful with spraypainting the already-covered bumper, because it is really easy for spray paint to bleed under stencils. Although it's ship day already, so I hope you've already figured this out. Good luck!
