2010 Minnesota 10,000 Lakes Regional
Can someone make a list of all the robots listed in the 2010 Minnesota 10,000 lakes regional so we can add pics?

Teams active on CD roughly correspond to who's "in the hunt" at this event, though. Editing in links to pictures... Right now, before any events and most robot reveals, some of the favorites for this year in my opinion include 1714, 2062, 2169, 2177, 2194 2502, 2826, and 2704. There are a lot of teams who showed strength last year who could have quietly improved, including 2704, 2861, 3007, 2825, 2846, and 2470. Though if last year is any indication, this regional is a prime breeding ground for competitive rookie teams to show their stuff. This event is also one of the hardest Rookie All-Star events; the competition is so deep that last year, one team that won no rookie awards went on to win the Championship Rookie Inspiration award. ---- 1714 put up a really impressive preship video yesterday with a suction possession mechanism and kicker. Their offensive versatility (can travel under or over, possess well, high traction shifting drive) should serve them well in the field. 2062's got a mecanum drive and a side hanger that is capable of supporting additional robots; they could be the only robot at the event to do that. |

Re: 2010 Minnesota 10,000 Lakes Regional
2022 is no longer called IRS, we have change our name. (Last time, I swear) We are now Seraphim Engineering.
I am going to see if I can get images of our robot to put up later tonight. |
Re: 2010 Minnesota 10,000 Lakes Regional
We are also part of the Minnesota Regionals and are team 3297...but we are called the Jacket Bots...Y-BOTS is our nickname

Re: 2010 Minnesota 10,000 Lakes Regional
All names are straight from The Blue Alliance.
Added in 2177, who looks like they'll at least be matching their Finalist appearance in Minnesota for the third year in a row. Hopefully this is the year they break on through and win the gold! |
Re: 2010 Minnesota 10,000 Lakes Regional
here is ours for 3297....http://jacketbots.webs.com/apps/phot...otoid=71474507
We have two kickers which are harder to see in the picture but one is a plunger and one is a "foot" like kicker... we also have vaacuum system set up to suck the ball in. This is our rookie year and we were pleased with our results so far... |
Re: 2010 Minnesota 10,000 Lakes Regional
Looks promising! Another suction team at 10,000 Lakes, do I spot a trend? o.0 Added to the list.

Re: 2010 Minnesota 10,000 Lakes Regional
Its our first year and we were happy. It took a lot of mistakes to make a working robot though...Hopefully all will go well at the competition. We are still trying to figure out the kickers some of the other teams have, especially with how far they shoot.

Re: 2010 Minnesota 10,000 Lakes Regional
How could I almost forget to predict this event? :D
To be blunt, 10,000 Lakes has always been a weak event. It's less about finding diamonds in the rough here as much as it is finding anyone particularly strong. The #1 alliance will likely take the event, since there will be a very limited number of robots to contribute to their alliance. Biggest name here? 1714. They won the event last year and show no signs of slowing. 1714 is all about continuous improvement, and if they improve on the same scale they did in 2009, then there is no stopping them. (In 2009, 1714 went from missing elims in Wisconsin to the first overall selection in Minnesota...). That being said, there are some significant question marks for them. They played the near zone almost exclusively in Wisconsin, and without Wildstang to help them out, they will have to be much more flexible than that if they want to carry an alliance and seed high. 1714 hasn't been in a picking position since 2008, so they may have to rely on the #1 Captain being complementary if they don't change something. 525 has switched into 10,000 Lakes. They have won this event before back in 2008, and they have a robot that's already won an event against an alliance which would later all win blue banners. They must be doing something right. Their consistent hanging ability will be unique and the 2 points alone should be enough to push them into the top few slots. A partner like 1714 would secure their second blue banner for them right at alliance selection. 2062 played well at a stronger event than Wisconsin, and is the only robot capable of suspension at the event. Cooperative driving and improvements to their robot will be needed to push to the very top, but success at this event is not at all an impossible dream for CORE. My prediction? Winning alliance or not, they'll punch their ticket for Atlanta here. 2177 has consistently been in the final match at Minnesota, and they certainly aren't bad this year. Another hanging robot who competed decently at a weaker event than this one, they have pulled upsets before at Minnesota and doing it again is more than possible. Maybe some suspension points with 2062? 2194 and 2826 are both strong teams from Wisconsin, the latter younger but enjoying more success. The possibility of 1714 and 2826 pairing up again is something definitely worth significant consideration. I don't know much about their robots, though. 2502 is the wild card. The EWCP's protege, they have been reaching for greater and greater heights this year, with an innovative robot that does things just a bit differently. They should be on everyone's radar screens as they could swing the event. |

2194 played almost exclusively in the close zone and seemed to really drive well with the mecanum wheels. Not much of a kicker, but their good driving allowed them to be one of the better close zone scorers. 2826 played mostly in zone 3 and zone 2. With their big kicker, they were easily able to clear balls from the far zone. I don't recall them playing much in the first zone, meaning they will likely need good partners in order to score and thus seed well. My prediction of the event: If 1714 gets on an alliance that can get balls to the close zone, they should be the heavy favorites to win. Chris is correct that if they only play in the close zone, they better hope for strong qualification partners to feed them balls if they want to seed high. On the bright side, there appears to be several teams that would compliment them very well (525, 2062, 2826). |
Re: 2010 Minnesota 10,000 Lakes Regional
The only reason we played in the front zone so much is because we realized we are so good in the front. Dont be suprised if we move around a bit more.

Re: 2010 Minnesota 10,000 Lakes Regional
We won't need to pull any upsets in Minnesota... providing we don't have the same type of luck we had in St. Louis :) Of our 12 qualification matches, 7 were played 2v3 (against us) due to missing, not working, or flipped during autonomous mode robots. Needless to say, playing this game 2v3 puts your team at a serious disadvantage.
Despite that, we would have won the quarter finals (yet another of our famous upsets) if not for a heap of DOGMA penalties in the second match, or some bad luck with our hanger in the third. BTW, we've fixed the hanger so it won't slip off like it did in that third match (which was also the first time it had slipped). |
Re: 2010 Minnesota 10,000 Lakes Regional
C.O.R.E. 2062 appreciates the kind words of encouragement. We hope that the stars are aligned this time and we advance further than Milwaukee. Watch for some added features to our robot. If all goes well on Thursday you will see a vacuum system and light sensor on our robot. These additions will add additional scoring posibilities to our robot.
Especially appreciate the kind words from the Hilltoppers. You guys rock and are having a phenominal year with your 2 regional championships. |

I'm expecting the majority of the Minnesota teams to be very competitive! I'm sure that teams like 2169 and 2500 have been working on improvements since their trip to Wisconsin. If there are any teams that need some help, please stop by our pit. We don't have a full crew with us, but will help in any way we can. |
Re: 2010 Minnesota 10,000 Lakes Regional
Just curious, but did anyone else see the practice match where team 2503 got 8 penalties in autonomous, and if the wall wasn't there, would have tried to run over the ref?

Re: 2010 Minnesota 10,000 Lakes Regional
Talk about a dream come true! Congrats 1714 and 2062 for winning their second event each. Together! 1714 and 2062 have always enjoyed a good relationship with each other and I'm glad that the teams were able to join together to win the competition. We were one pick away from that last year...
Congrats to all the other winners as well. |
Re: 2010 Minnesota 10,000 Lakes Regional
2052 KnightKrawler we had that kinda luck there, one match, we were the only upright robot on our alliance at the end
|
Re: 2010 Minnesota 10,000 Lakes Regional
As a Viking fan, I'm all for teams and people going from Wisconsin to Minnesota and winning :D Congrats to 1714 and 2062! Real good to see 1714 get their back to back 10K lakes win. Also, good to see 2062 get their second regional win. Their quarterfinal finish at Wisconsin was not indictive of how strong their robot and strategy (especially in the QFs against 111) are.

Re: 2010 Minnesota 10,000 Lakes Regional
Chris:
You are correct! Winning the regional is a dream come true. Winning it with 1714 makes it even more special. More Robotics has always been a team that we look up to and try to emulate. They set the standard for what others should strive for. They have always been there for us and have given us guidance and support. Along the way we have become great friends. Their motto: "Learn MORE, Give MORE, Be MORE" truly exemplifies what they believe in. They have always given us more and as a result we have become more. Thank you Thomas More! And congrats on the Safety Award, we know how much it means to you. Also congrats to all of the other teams that won awards. Well deserved. A special mention to the WAVE, team 2826. Your team did an outstanding job and your alliance (2511 & 2513) had us worried during the semi-finals with great play and strategy. A big thank you goes out to team 3038, the ICE for being a great partner. |
Re: 2010 Minnesota 10,000 Lakes Regional
Congrats teams 1714, 2062, and 3038. You guys are some awesome competitors. On a side note I would like to celebrate a personal success for our team in having a very competitive comeback year after not participating in 2009 and returning with many students new to the FIRST experience. Good luck in Atlanta, and see you next year.

Re: 2010 Minnesota 10,000 Lakes Regional
I would like to add our congratulations to teams 1714, 2062, and 3038. Good luck at Atlanta!
Kudos also to Joe Passofaro and everyone on Team 2169! Obviously all your hard work is paying off. Thanks for picking us, and always cheering for us. Thanks also to our other alliance partner, 2989. We gave it our best! We are amazed by Team 2500. It has been fun to watch your team grow in the past three years. You truly are an inspiration to us. To all the rookie teams, our new friends, keep up the good work! We hope to see you all again next year. I was definitely impressed by the rest of the Minnesota teams, led by Team 2177. Congratulations to Teams 525 and 2826 on your awards, and also thanks for always cheering for us. Congratulations also to Teams 1816, 171, 1675 and especially 537 on your successes over at the North Star Regional. Finally, thanks to all the volunteers at both regionals, especially those that helped get all the teams through inspection on Thursday and Friday. You are part of the reason why FIRST is so successful in Minnesota. |
Re: 2010 Minnesota 10,000 Lakes Regional
I was about to post that not to forget about team 3038s amazing defense that last match we only let two balls in out of how many were over there. I know that is egotistic, but hey we still good. We are still ex-static to go this year. Thanks again to team 1714 for picking us.

How is it that all of the videos from Northstar are up on TBA but none from 10,000 lakes?

I found it quite interesting to notice that all the teams attending this regional have team numbers containing four digits.

What's more interesting than the digit count is that there were only 2 teams that were older than three years. And neither of them was from MN. |

Actually, their were 10 fourth year teams, 1714, and 525. As for the regional, it was great. This is by far the largest regional I have ever been too, and the volunteers did an impeccable job of running it. The withholding allowance was put to good use this year, as we brought in a completely new robot after a major design failure at Midwest. We had a lot of fun, but we were unable to qualify for Atlanta. Hopefully next year. |

Re: 2010 Minnesota 10,000 Lakes Regional
OK, so once again I am living proof that you can get a MS degree in Engineering without being able to do basic math :)
Actually, I think it's because my head is still spinning from being the LRI at a 63 team regional... which would explain why for some reason I thought it was 2009 a few minutes ago. Anyway, I know i've got this right: there were only two teams with numbers < 2000. And everyone was very thankful for all the support they helped provide to the 13 rookie teams that were there. Thanks again 525 and 1714 for coming to MN and helping everyone out! See you both in ATL. -Jeff Lead Robot Inspector, 10,000 Lakes Regional |
