Massive 8.8 Earthquake hits Chile
 

There was a massive earthquake measuring 8.8 on the Richter scale this morning. Tsunami warnings have been posted for the entire Pacific ocean. I have posted a link to the CNN article that describes the situation below.

EDIT:
I have been able to get in contact with one member of their team and he said that they are ok. He mentioned that the earthquake lasted about a minute long. He has contacted the majority of the team members and says that everyone he has spoken to is doing fine.

Thank you for that update. I'm glad they are doing okay. They will be in our thoughts and prayers, as well as others who are in the possible path of a tsunami.

With the people of the team I have spoken are fine, but I have not yet been
communicate with everyone...

It was a very long earthquake almost a minute.... and left many structural damages. Many bridges and roads collapsed so we are isolated... and the subway neither works

A TSUNAMI HAS BEEN GENERATED THAT COULD CAUSE DAMAGE ALONG COASTLINES OF ALL ISLANDS IN THE STATE OF HAWAII. URGENT ACTION SHOULD BE TAKEN TO PROTECT LIVES AND PROPERTY.



A TSUNAMI IS A SERIES OF LONG OCEAN WAVES. EACH INDIVIDUAL WAVE CREST CAN LAST 5 TO 15 MINUTES OR MORE AND EXTENSIVELY FLOOD COASTAL AREAS. THE DANGER CAN CONTINUE FOR MANY HOURS AFTER THE INITIAL WAVE AS SUBSEQUENT WAVES ARRIVE. TSUNAMI WAVE HEIGHTS CANNOT BE PREDICTED AND THE FIRST WAVE MAY NOT BE THE LARGEST.

TSUNAMI WAVES EFFICIENTLY WRAP AROUND ISLANDS. ALL SHORES ARE AT RISK NO MATTER WHICH DIRECTION THEY FACE. THE TROUGH OF A TSUNAMI WAVE MAY TEMPORARILY EXPOSE THE SEAFLOOR BUT THE AREA WILL QUICKLY FLOOD AGAIN. EXTREMELY STRONG AND UNUSUAL NEARSHORE CURRENTS CAN ACCOMPANY A TSUNAMI. DEBRIS PICKED UP AND CARRIED BY A TSUNAMI AMPLIFIES ITS DESTRUCTIVE POWER. SIMULTANEOUS HIGH TIDES OR HIGH SURF CAN SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASE THE TSUNAMI HAZARD.

The Tsunami is almost here! 11:15 for the island of Maui. Hope its not to big:ahh: . It's sad to see that this is happening and good luck to the chile team.

My daughter's 1st Bday party today was cancelled, primarily due to the Country Club shutting down for the day.
That's a lot of favors and cake to eat all by ourselves!
Fortunately for us in Hawaii, the warning was early and everyone is preparing themselves.
Several Hawaii teams including us and 368 are leaving in a couple of days for FRC tournaments in the mainland. Its going to be hectic to say the least.

thankfully the tsunami was nothing more than weird water surges
we really dodged a bullet with that one
