Seeking scouting partners nationwide for 2010 Breakaway Season
Team 1676 has created a scouting system that allows teams to enter and process objective scouting data at a regional competition. The resulting data can be used by your team to identify potential partners and plan strategies, as with any good scouting system. The main advantage of this system is that all data is entered in real time through a user-friendly web page, residing on a small server at the regional.
We now have a method of distributing this comprehensive system to other teams nationally. The website has been loaded onto a flash drive that contains a full web server environment. With the help of other teams we are hoping to have scouting at multiple regionals. This web-database is NOT on the Internet, you run the webserver at the regional and wires from the scouts to the server allow the data to be saved. If your team is interested in being part of our scouting system you will receive a bootable flash drive and bootable CD in the mail. At your regional you will have the server computer booting off of the bootable flashdrive. You should expect to have six scouts (one for each team on the field), each with their own laptop computer, as well as a seventh computer to function as a server, along with Ethernet cables and a switch/router/hub to connect it all together. The data from every match will be stored in a database where you can access it and develop team strategies. We will be scouting the New Jersey and the Virginia regionals. If you will be attending another regional and are interested in loading scouting data into the system please let us know. Send me a PM with your e-mail address, or an e-mail to: information at team1676 dot com Thanks! |
Re: Seeking scouting partners nationwide for 2010 Breakaway Season
We did a web-based system last year where each scouter had a laptop. Using Javascript, I created a hotkey system. In theory, it was brilliant. In actuality, it was one problem after another. We had to try to keep the laptops charged without drawing too much power from our power supply.
(After that rant,) can't one scouter run off the server computer? That's what we did last year. |
Re: Seeking scouting partners nationwide for 2010 Breakaway Season
I have also created a pseudo-scouting website(that IS on the internet). Mine simply takes all match data from ALL regionals and puts it into a database I have set up. It currently only displays the match data in a basic table based on the regional you select, but I plan to implement some other pages to display various other sorted versions of the data very soon.
The website is http://fletch809.mine.nu/FRCFMS If you have any suggestions or requests, I would be glad to attempt to include them. NOTE: This site is currently hosted on my personal computer at my house, please try not to abuse my bandwidth. edit: whoops, seems to be down right now... should be back up soon |
